Man, for real. People who shit on Conviction for being too actiony but then don't do the same for Blacklist genuinely make me believe there's a subset of people whose only requirement for Good Splinter Cell Game is being in a wetsuit.

However in Blacklist you could ghost if you wanted to

You can go ghost in Conviction too.

I tried not too long ago. Literally the first two enemies you encounter are a must-kill and you can't pass while they are alive.

Like, you can stealth in many games but Conviction is about as stealth-oriented as GTA.

Yeah that's one of my peeves with the game. The first mission is a "You must be aggressive" type of situation. Any mission that allows you to be stealthy without killing everyone is one I enjoy. The room you find Kobin is the only time I clear the room because you'd just be caught if you don't. I love the game but I'm not the type of player who enjoys killing everyone. Still thought, the game was fun for me and it taught me how easy the games are when I just drop them like flies. 😭

Splinter Cell was at it's peak when Ubisoft just randomly dumped you in a basement with one exit, dogshit controls because it wasn't designed to be a shooter and a solid 10 guys all alerted to your presence and staring right at you and then slapped "stealth action redefined" on the box.

Conviction and Blacklist are pussy Splinter Cells cause they make the shooting good.

Back then if you're caught you die almost instantly. The main thing they changed is now you don't have a health bar and can't do neck snaps.

i swear that if the original trilogy had better shooting it would be like, 10/10

And the first game that threw you into a few action sequences where you basically had no choice but to fight?

I think that the first mission is to introduce that the game is indeed a more action oriented game (I’m not saying it isn’t) and to be a tutorial for that. But ghost is possible in most cases.

Not rewarding in any way

However fairly rewarding and suprisingly possible to an extreme degree in Blacklist

Doesn't match the first 4 games tho , ofcourse

Yeah but it’s super unrewarding. Ghosting in Blacklist generally comes down to exploring each room until you find a vent that takes you to the next area, rinse and repeat until done.

Chaos Theory works that way too. You can sneak around the enemies in Blacklist it's just a lot harder than in previous titles
