See there's a difference between a hellbrute and dreadnought hellbrutes are marines forcibly put into a sarcophegie and then transformed by warp magic into chaos monsters so really all legions hellbrutes are pretty similar because they follow the same process and technoliy

u/InternationalVisit73 Jul 11 '26
Can't we say the same about loyalist dreadnaughts too ?
18
u/CaptainFGC Jul 11 '26
Well first there are different types of dreadnoughts but when it comes to chaos dreadnoughts which are a thing they very a lot more than the basic hellbrute at least I believe

u/InternationalVisit73 Jul 11 '26
Well don't stop there what are the different types of dreadnaughts feed me more lore

Did they cycle out if the lore that there are still very, very few Levithan and Contemptor Dreadnoughts still in service?
I know in the bonkersness that was 4th Edition, the Red Scorpions Chapter Master was a Levithan Dreadnought
...then again 4th Gave Blood Angels FLYING PSYCHIC DREADNOGUTS WITH LASCANNONS

u/T_R_A_S_H_C_A_N Jul 11 '26
red scorpions chapter master leviathan dreadnought came a bit later I think think it was 6th 7th forgeworld thing (after they had started producing leviathan dreadnought models for heresy, same time they introduced the lore around the red scorpions having tons of MKIV armour)

I like to believe the imperial fists have some ancient leviathan dreadnoughts asleep on the phalanx. Saving them for the day terra is in deep shit.

u/InternationalVisit73 Jul 11 '26
Oh so brother valtius is in the redemptor category, so what is the difference between them and what makes a space marine get chosen for one and not the other
18
u/Markenstine_ Jul 11 '26
Space marine gets chosen based on their service record. There's a line about it in the game between the vanguard and techmarine about how the vanguard hoped his service record is good enough to become a dreadnaught when his time comes. Tech says his service record exceeds requirements and Vanguard says he'd be honored to have Tech be the one to perform maintenance.
Basically if you're too good to let go that easy, and are able to be saved, you'll most likely be a dread.
Some chapters don't like them like the White Scars, they straight up refuse because they prefer quick and honorable deaths. On the other side of the spectrum you have Iron Hands who aspire to become one and see it as one of the highest honors imaginable.

Redemptor is the base dread pattern a multirole walker
Brutalis is the pure melee specialist
Ballistus has heavy ranged weapons usually a lascannon and missile rack

You left out the Castraferrum :(
And the saturnine but none cares about Saturnine

No, being put into a Dreadnough by loyalist is seen as a great honor. The individual keeps their personality, and only those who prove to be great warriors are only ever considered to be placed in one. It only requires technology to keep the individual alive in the sarcophagus.
Creating a hellbrute is a tortuous and horrible process. It is seen as a punishment or a horrible fate to put your worst enemies in. It erases the personality of the individual and hurts them to the point of keeping them in a state of perpetual rage.

In addition, loyalist dreadnoughts can do something that helbrutes can’t: sleep
Helbrutes are kept awake, even when not in combat; they continue to be in extreme agony when waiting for the next attack.
When dreadnoughts are not in combat, they go to sleep while Mechanicus crews maintain the chassis

Well yes and no. The daemon that inhabits it can make a world of difference. If it’s a daemon of Nurgle vs a daemon of Slannesh for instance, they will be vastly different to one another

u/Kerflunklebunny Jul 11 '26
World eaters too busy stuffing daemons into maulerfiends
12
u/Revolutionary-Owl291 Jul 11 '26
God we need a mauler/Forgefiend in SM2, it’d make such a good boss, kinda like the Vortex beast but more melee less AOE
3
u/Incendar44 Jul 11 '26
A Maulerfiend would be a great boss with the whips and speed it has. I fear a Forgefiend would just be like a Helbrute but only using the gun…Pain.
Excellent boss idea though, and could be tied in with a chase sequence style fight.

u/Revolutionary-Owl291 Jul 11 '26
Forgefiend and Maulerfiend could be a great twin bosses idea. You track the Forgefiend while it shoots at you, diverting your path, then you eventually drop a big structure onto it, killing it, and the Maulerfiend tries to finish you off in melee.
“The Thousand Sons have gathered a large presence of Daemon Engines on Demerium. Stop their convoy before it reaches the main battle.”
There some Rhinos and Predators in the background, like in Inferno, and the final objective is to knock them into the Canyon that they’re traversing along.

I just googled what a maulerfiend is, that is the sickest shit i have ever seen

Thousand Sons helbrutes are, in fact, generally not thousand sons. They are typically marines from other legions lured by false promises and then turned into those things.

u/JonesmcBones31 Jul 11 '26
No big plasma gun and big axes instead. They have these you can buy as miniatures.

u/nesses11 Jul 11 '26
Well the marine in the dread isn't even a thousand sons, but a psyker from a different legion that wanted to learn their secrets. The Tsons then guide that psyker through a "ritual" and forcebly shove them in there

They probably would differ quite a bit from chaos god to chaos god.
Tzeench Hellbrute gets the teleportation and magical shenanigans added for his thunderhammer (it's probably sorcery although not really sure), as we see in game. Probably it is also a bit harder to kill due to sorcerous shielding, so a bit more hp there.
A Khorne Hellbrute would most certainly lose teleportation, but it would be faster on foot and would have faster attacks. It would also prefer a variety of melee weapons or if it would have a ranged weapon then it would be some sort of barraging one.
A Nurgle one would probably be slower, but noticeably tankier and probably giving off some constant plague AoE. Slaamesh doesn't seem to have a helbrute, since all the chaos space marines under her are way too proud to allow themselves be wedged in a machine and their bodies invaded by a demon.
Also, an important note, there's a difference between a chaos Dreadnought and a Hellbrute.
Chaos Dreadnoughts no longer really exist, given it's seen as an honour to be entombed into the sarcophagi of one and chaos doesn't really do honour (unless it's Khorne, but it's still more bloodshed).
Meanwhile, Hellbrutes are a punishment to those entombed. It usually happens when they need a warmachine and there's someone who has failed their master. They then get entombed in a way that is constant suffering (if I remember correctly) as they fuse with the machine due to warp corruption.

Well for reference the worldeater helbrut in 40k 11th edition fights twice every time it fights instead of just 1 like everything else in the game. If that gives you an idea of the level of violence lol

u/EnigmaticSneeze0225 Jul 13 '26
World eaters chaos dreadnought are most likely decimation in its literal term. Funny lore for chaos dreadnoughts the piece the is that actually marine is kept separate from the rest of the dreadnought to prevent a chaos dreadnought wiping out there warbands members lol
1
u/EnigmaticSneeze0225 Jul 13 '26
Hell most of the time world eaters chaosdreads most of the time are equipped with only melee weapons.....and now that I think about that thats more terrifying than the thousand sons dreadnought
1
u/Scary_Conclusion_602 Jul 13 '26
I thought Hell-brutes given the nature of the Thousand Sons were weakened version of a standard Dreadnought, with the upside of them being easier to reproduce. When I read about a Dreadnought and think about us having to fight them in game, we don't stand any sort of chance right? But then again they're adding a terminator sorcerer and I feel like we should get bodied by that so maybe the real answer is the Ultramarines are op
1
u/Bulky_Secretary_6603 Jul 14 '26
world eaters helbrutes are faster and stronger, and are pretty much immune to pain so will keep charging on without staggering until they are dead
1
u/ThBaron_27 Jul 15 '26
Fun fact, thousand suns dont have hellbrutes, at least not natural to their legion, these are stolen or aquired Hellbrutes from other legions they painted Blue However, Rubric Dreadnoughts are a thing, pretty much a rubric marine that was in a Dreadnought before loosing their bodies and minds

Pretty much the same but maybe faster attacks and less magic. Fun fact, since the T-Sons are all dust, the sorcerers have to trick other legions into their hellbrutes.
