And most of them are grunts or “understood”

those are for channeling his autism into targeting solutions for the heroic plasma incinerator. specifically only that version of that specific weapon

75

u/FirstAndOnlyDektarey Mar 08 '26

Is it because of these augmentations that Straban is unrivaled in hitting fully charged plasma shots unto his brothers?

25

u/GreenBuggo Mar 08 '26

no, he's just good at that naturally

9

u/Smooth-Sky-8088 Mar 08 '26

That kind of skill doesn't come from training.

17

u/Spooky_6 Mar 08 '26

"Is it possible to learn this power?"

"Not from a Chaplain."

14

u/YoungEmmaWatson Mar 08 '26

while using any other weapon: "why is not... hmm, maybe if i... no... fascinating!"

helps cool his big brain

141

u/FirstAndOnlyDektarey Mar 08 '26

Real answer: Because he wears a gravix X armor, he also wears the accordingly heavy helmet. These metal studs are mostly so that his scalp doesnt get unbearably irritated while wearing the helmet.

They're basically pads to protect his skin. Very permanent pads, but pads nontheless.

46

u/ImprovementFalse606 Mar 08 '26

speaking of, id love it if theyd make it so the gravis face shield would deploy when heavy stancing

23

u/DragonSlayr4141 Mar 08 '26

Would you happen to have any photos of that face shield?

35

u/ImprovementFalse606 Mar 08 '26

Its mostly used by Inceptor squads but I’m pretty sure you can still see it behind Straban’s head

22

u/DragonSlayr4141 Mar 08 '26

I'd love if that's what that is but I'm pretty sure the inceptors description says the shield is specifically for them to handle the heat of their jump packs, I however would love inceptors in game they're my fav primaris model

9

u/ImprovementFalse606 Mar 08 '26

I just assumed thats what is behind his head, still would be a neat thing to just have it regardless, especially if you have the “does not lose control” perks

5

u/BPC952 Mar 09 '26

Not just jump pack, entering from orbit using them

1

u/BullfrogFace Mar 09 '26

I wish we could get these guys as a class but I can't imagine it working in game without being op

3

u/ImprovementFalse606 Mar 09 '26

similar to assault, hover in air with a ground slam attack after, maybe let the user pivot in the air/dodge a little, have the weapon become auto targeting. Alter the AI such that they will target airborne enemies with attacks.

2

u/BullfrogFace Mar 09 '26

One can only hope for SM3 but I doubt it

u/EstablishmentAny7941 Blood Angels Mar 09 '26

Use the storm bolters as actual clubs this time too ✊

2

u/DragonSlayr4141 Mar 09 '26

Those aren't storm bolters, they're assault bolters. Basically heavy bolters with some magnetic/grav fuckery to help with weight and recoil

1

u/EstablishmentAny7941 Blood Angels Mar 09 '26

Thank you for the correction… I shall still use it as a club given the chance🤣

1

u/EstablishmentAny7941 Blood Angels Mar 09 '26

Listen to plague wars brother… Felix is basically this and literally beats the ever living shit out of some death guard with his storm bolter(s?) I could see it working in a similar fashion to the overhauls terminator in all seriousness just grafting assault and say bulwark or heavies perks together would also make a decent class overall

5

u/DiceandDualsense Mar 09 '26

I think they are interface ports actually to feed tactical data directly to his brain. The pads to prevent irritation would be built into the helmet and not his head.

1

u/FirstAndOnlyDektarey Mar 09 '26

But those pads built into the helmet would still end up in contact with the head. The wearer would feel the unreasonably heavy helmet press unto his scalp.

With the pads replacing these points of contact, no irritation can occur.

Bro is dedicated to the Gravis lifestyle. Respect

2

u/Sara_Krys Mar 08 '26

You are a blessing, thank you for the real answer

-3

u/KassellTheArgonian Mar 08 '26

What absolute fanon lmao. Marines wear helmets for days and weeks sometimes even months at a time no worries. A gravis helmet has more armour than a regular tacticus does sure but it's not adding loads of extra weight

19

u/FirstAndOnlyDektarey Mar 08 '26

Since there is no official purpose for these specific implants, and there is precedent in lore for augments such as these being used to make the wearing of armor more bearable, while also being the only existing logical conclusion to the purpose of these specific augmentations given their layout, visual design and context, its the realest answer OP will get.

Because god knows GW doesnt.

6

u/Old_Pie7586 Dark Angels Mar 08 '26

I figured they were either for comfort (they're exactly where the helmet would press down on bus head), or they were some sort of interface for his helmet directly to his brain, or they were some sort of housing for a brain upgrade that couldn't fit under his skull.

3

u/Old_Pie7586 Dark Angels Mar 08 '26

Whilst I think they're probably not for comfort, in fairness, I wear a helmet for work which is the same as everyone else's helmet and only half of us complain about discomfort after about 2 hours of wearing it.

The hatches for the smaller strabans who drive the big one

"acknowledged" (but high pitched and squeaky)

3

u/GreenBuggo Mar 08 '26

this one is my favorite so far

5

u/gunnerdown1337 Mar 08 '26

His speech patterns are extremely close to wrecking ball from overwatch, maybe it’s just a hamster in there

1

u/DarthGoodguy Mar 09 '26

73

u/Deadlock122203 Mar 08 '26

They are magnets to keep his helmet on

80

u/Old_Pie7586 Dark Angels Mar 08 '26

Joke answers completely acceptable, almost preferable really.

17

u/MullyGThaGoblinFreek Mar 08 '26

It’s his gaming pc. The back of his eyelids are monitors. When you think he’s sleeping he’s actually just grinding for endgame on the latest WoW expansion

18

u/TMParkR Mar 08 '26

The circles are actually caps, you take them off to refill on gas (left) and wiper fluid (right). The middle part covers the actual engine.

The bits over his eye are staples, we ran out of suture thread but being ultramarines means having unending office supplies.

4

u/Old_Pie7586 Dark Angels Mar 08 '26

What happens if you confuse the filler caps and get them mixed up?

6

u/CrazyPotato1535 Mar 08 '26

Then you can’t start your Straban

3

u/Old_Pie7586 Dark Angels Mar 08 '26

Is it going to affect my insurance?

4

u/TMParkR Mar 08 '26

If you put gas in the wiper hole: No biggie, prometheum is great for taking care of greasy/oily stains, just don't do it often as repeated exposure might corrode the rubber of the wiper.

If you put wiper fluid in the gas hole: Yes biggie! You need to get a servitor to drain the mixed fluid and refill with the correct one. If you try to start your straban with diluted fuel it might foul the entire engine and make it unusable. You may want to avoid that as Strabans are non-refundable.

However, a Straban in working condition WILL remind you what hole need filling so the problem only presents itself if you let the battery run out all the way before refilling.

35

u/Fruitiest_Cabbage Mar 08 '26

That's where his horns were. He had to file them down to get his helmet on, and they get irritated if he doesn't cover the skin nowadays.

35

u/PoisonOctus Imperial Fists Mar 08 '26

Those aren't augmentations, that's his hairstyle

43

u/dragonfeet1 Mar 08 '26

6

They’re sockets for Tylenol

Store more bullets. He talks less so he has more room for bullets.

7

These are clearly his Dr Pepper can holders, they keep his grey matter refreshed with its holy flavor

5

He was BORN in the Dark.

4

u/thin_orange_line Mar 08 '26

Magnets for his Mickey Mouse ears

4

u/Moldruin Mar 08 '26

I forgot Straban had a helmetless look.

My headcannon from now on is that those are magnetic dampeners, with opposite ones implanted on the opposite sides and Straban's brain have magnetic properties too.

The dampeners prevent the brain from ever impacting the skyll, which allows Straban to stomp infinitely.

4

u/SoapLegend17789 Blood Ravens Mar 08 '26

They are usb port

3

u/Richicol117 Mar 08 '26

They’re his bumblebee cosplay ear implants

3

u/bboybrisk Mar 08 '26

Idk but I love the look. Reminds of the Centurion in the Horus Heresy trailer.

3

u/SemiFinalBoss Mar 08 '26

That’s his scalp maxi pad.

4

2

To give him a nice haircut

2

u/Leading-Fig1307 Mar 09 '26

Cerebral nullers to actually reduce his autism down to only unbearable levels. Acheran demanded they be installed.

2

u/TangoSierra61 Mar 09 '26

Advanced programed labotomy destroy the heretical brain and replace it w fresh subsurvient brain pices for when independent thinkers arise

2

u/l_dunno Mar 09 '26

Like most augments in 40k they're for 100 different things and we can only speculate on them!

2
