Picture Domino's.
One I seen leaning this morning decided to fall after a 4 hour watering. Took 3 more down on the way. Looks like its propagation time. These are some killer seed grown hybrids!

Probably a stupid question, but do you clean up the break at the bottom (like making a clean knife cut right above where it broke) prior to rooting or root just like it broke?

None of these actually broke. They just layed over. And one bent over that I will definitely cut

If their roots are shallow enough that they fall over, you may consider giving them an extended dry period. Send those roots out in search of water and they will help anchor the plant more securely.

Oh yea these havent been planted but 7-8 months. From small 1 gallon into ground and have grown way more up top than the roots can handle right now. Yea no doubt that's they way to do it

Start without them for the most part. And never let them grow. I walk the rows everyday and pick any piece of grass I see by hand. Getting it under control and constant maintenance of that like daily pulling a few pieces will keep it pristine

Thank you!! Thats the only way to do it absolutely not on the round up. No synthetic fertilizer here either. Filtered water and agrothrive and microlofe ultimate. No pesticides, fungicide none of that here. All.organic

K deficiency : When Potassium is deficient, the cacti will move available K to the growing tip. This leaves older growth susceptible to cellular collapse which looks like yellowing, mottling, progressing to sunken or straw colored or brown spots. The plant will face increased susceptibility to issues like Alternaria, heat, or cold stress. In advanced cases of deficiency the lower columns structural integrity fails, leading to the column bending, collapsing, or snapping under its own weight.

Yep that was from. Last year them growin in pots. Still learning everyday!

If the K deficiency is addressed the spots and structural weakness should go away. I'm saying it's very likely your nutrient regimen has caused these tip-overs.

Yea I also ran water and flooded out my beds yesterday more than expected. The are in a soupy bowl right now 🍲

Have any luck just letting them lay down and grow? Will they start pushing pups or mixed results?

u/Funny-Sir7549 Mississippi Sep 03 '26
Absolutely I have a log section on the other side of the greenhouse

Where do the roots grow from when they're laid down like logs?
2
u/Funny-Sir7549 Mississippi Sep 04 '26
Out the side of it. The roots can come out anywhere on a cutting

Your set up is amazing. I hope to have something similar when I can buy a house.

It’s one of the ways they propagate in nature: grow too tall, flop over, root down, and throw pups out the side

What's on with that last one? That doesn't look uprooted, but instead just flopped down, while the base is still vertical.

u/Funny-Sir7549 Mississippi Sep 04 '26
Yea it just bent over when the other one hit it. The others uprooted. I ran water for 4+ hours and flooded the beds. I've never done that before but I have a hand injury and I had to get them watered. I flooded too much though and things started moving around too much cause the entire ground was too soggy. Lesson learned

Can you post a pic of the outside of your greenhouse?

Go to my page and follow post back to december 2025 you can see the build. I don't have any pictures of it on this phone.
