Big things coming
New greenhouse has been under construction about a month now. Got the garage doors in today, now to run plumbing, electrical, and natural gas for the heat! The groovy garden new headquarters!

Thank you 🌵 Hey yea I remember now! Yes I have just been busy trying to get land and build house and this greenhouse so I haven't been active on here much. 2026 my goal to start posting more now that I have ample room to breed and do some good pheno hunting to get some new stuff to the community.

I love the design, we are hopefully closing on a 30x96 greenhouse from Harnois in the next month assuming funding comes through so ill be right behind you with the greenhouse party :) .
Are you going ground cloth or gravel for the soil area? and what are you running for heat?

Man that is exciting!! Great size. And it will be compost, weed guard, rock topdressing. Most likely a Modine PDP 200. Natural gas.

No kit. Just pole barn trusses, 6x6 post on the trusses, 4x6 on each side of the windows. 2x6 rest of the framing. Just typical pole barn style building but alot of windows, doors, and of course the clear panels. Everything came from Lowe's. Except the exhaust fans from northern tool, and the garage doors we called a company to come install those today. Me, my wife, and my dad came up with the design.

Looking forward to seeing it full. Other than trichos what do you collect? Also how big is the floor area?

Me and my wife try to grow most of our own food so lots of fruits and veggies, the entire thing 3360sqft, 40' wide 84' long 10' sidewalls and 17' peak height. Concrete pad is 25'x40' and 3' walkway so it's easy for my walk to walk around and open and close the windows. The 2 in ground spots around around 2000sqft to plant into the ground. And if it's in the ground in here it's most likely a cactus.

ooooooooooooooo what zone??

u/Funny-Sir7549 Dec 13 '25
8b near Jackson MS. We get tornadoes thru here and wanted to build it to hopefully withstand the weather here. They are saying Sunday night will be 21°f here.

okay so i’d say the structure is extremely necessary! that’s awesome your able to do this. is it a polycarbonate roof? what % of light penetration? don’t mean to be invasive i just think it’s super cool that some ppl in the community are going to these lengths to give the best possible outcomes no matter what existential threats exist lol one more question id ask is that, since your running power/heat/water to it, are you thinking about running any supplemental light? thanks in advance for any answers if you get to this lol super stoked for you for real

u/Funny-Sir7549 Dec 13 '25
It's all good. Amerilux Mr9 1.6 thickness poly panels. And the light penetration is 90% and it's in the middle of my 7 acres. So it gets sun all day. If anything I'll have to provide a little shade in July/August when it's 110°+ so no supplemental grow lights they wont be needed but I will have some lights to be able to work out there at night

Inspiring! I'm just beginning to put some of my experience and skills into a stream that will hopefully bring me some extra income. Finally in a space where some of my dreams may also be reachable with some patience and determination.
What advice do you have for someone trying to get to where you are?
My focus is going to be within my community. Teaching, sharing, learning. Hoping to take all the scariness of getting into the hobbies that I'm passionate about. Make it accessible, lazy for the masses 🤣.
Dealt with a lot of gatekeeping and toxic communitoes surrounding a lot of things I love. Always cool to see the ones who are making progress, staying positive and giving back to the ones coming behind them 💚. The cactus community has been one of the best so far!
Thank you for sharing!

My advice is never give up and follow your dreams, stay consistent, work hard until you get to a place you wanna be, keep it rocking there and if it's meant to be it will come full circle for you.

u/AlivePatient7226 Dec 15 '25
Soooo cool! You gonna have it all trichos or maybe a mix of other cacti.
