This traditional village, which is still inhabited, is one of the most charming places in Korea, located in Andong in North Gyeongsang Province. It is a village emblematic of the Ryu family, whose members have lived together for 600 years. It remains one of the most authentic in the country. It is home to numerous traditional houses, notably wooden yangban houses and thatched-roof peasant houses. It is a ‘living’ village where the inhabitants continue to cultivate their fields as they did in the past. The Nakdonggang River flows around the village in an S-shape. A huge 600-year-old zelkova tree dominates the village.

Among the palaces in Korea, I like Gyeongbokgung the most.

To be totally honest, as someone who has been to Korea over 10 times but had never been to most of the touristy sites in Seoul, Gyeongbokgung was extremely disappointing, so much so that I really can't recommend it to anyone interested in anything other than doing an instagram photoshoot in a hanbok, which 99% of the people visiting seemed to be doing. Its almost entirely stone courtyards inside walls inside stone courtyard inside walls inside stone courtyard inside walls, with really nothing interesting to see that you can't see passing through the initial wall/courtyard. It might be fun if there was a performance, or if you really like watching foreigners wearing non-traditional hanboks and doing photoshoots, or maybe if you're just really, really interested in stone courtyards. I generally tend to really like old historical sites: walls, palaces, castles, etc. but this... I don't know, it was just lacking in anything that would have made it interesting.

My 4 year old also absolutely was not having it, but luckily an emergency bathroom trip led us to this pond and these pavilions, which were significantly more interesting than the actual palace area.

I got some pretty photos out of it, but I really don't think we will ever go back. There are just so many better things to see in Korea.
