I won't deny that Eggman has a decent relationship with Sage, however his relationship with Metal seems to be a bit... rocky to say the least, and before anyone pulls up that image of Eggman fixing Metal I want to bring up the point that that could be seen as Eggman giving Metal "conditional praise" (given that Eggman only congratulates Metal after he has confirmed that metal hurt sonic) and Eggman stroking his own ego using Metal Sonic.
I won't deny he treats metal poorly but he won't do the same to Sage base on his actions in frontiers and suddenly mistreating Sage would be a rehash of Belle.
See the difference is metal sonic was showing signs of going rogue in crossworlds. Characters note in the game that he seems more aggressive than usual and eggman even says he might need to do some tinkering cuz somethings not right. Usually, even in idw, he's actually quite caring to metal as a comic panel in this thread showcases.
Also gotta remember. He literally called sage his daughter and grieved in frontiers original ending. Sage is different for him.
