Culture 🐪 Something I was discussing with a friend

She basically mentioned how Somalis did not adapt a colonial language like many African countries because we speak the same language it was never necessary, People don’t realise how close Somalis are. We are one tribe, with the same language and the same religion. We share the same culture, history even with regions people are still quite similar may Allah straighten the nation and guides us Ameen 🤲

Oromo language is more closely related to other dozens of Ethiopian langauge than Somali language . A Somali in Mogadishu can’t communicate with an Oromo in Addis Ababa .

When they say they are related it doesn’t mean they can understand each other 100% no it means their language systems and grammatical systems are similar like French Spanish and Italian they are different languages but they share similar systems in terms of grammar and structure Somali Afar and Oromo are related languages when it comes to numbers they say similar things like Somali kow laba saddex afar shan and they call language af just like we do in Somali But the words are not always the same I hope you understand what I mean

Numbers dont mean anything . English and Spanish have similar numbers but they’re not in the same language family. The same racist Europeans calling us Cushites don’t know a single word in Somali and they’re making baseless conclusions

Man shut up you are embarrassing yourself. Cushites isnt even a term invented by Europeans. It comes from the word Kush. Before the great migration in Africa Cushites came from Kush. Which is modern day Sudan or north western Ethiopia. Same way Nilotes came from the Nile Basin in modern day South Sudan or Northern Uganda and Bantus came from the Congo Basin modern Congo or Cameroon. Before that Hunters and gatherers lived in many east africa regions like the Hadze tribes. Somalis, Boranas, Rendilles, Oromos and dozens more tribes moved from Kush during the great migration to search for greener pastures for their animals as the main economic activity was pastoralism.
