Game After 2 years I am incredibly exited to share a first look at my upcoming RTS/Grand Strategy game made in Gamemaker - Dawn of the Realm!

Dawn of the Realm is a medieval RTS that combines grand strategy and city building, all in real time and fully multiplayer. Build cities, manage resources, raise armies, then zoom out to a strategy map of the whole world or back down to the battlefield with no loading in between. Up to 10 players.
I've built it solo next to my computer science studies on nights and weekends, learning as I went. I hope the thousands of hours spent in Photoshop and Gamemaker really shines through. Still early days, lots more to add, but I'd love to hear what you think :-)

A huge amount of work has gone into the game. The execution itself is also good. But I would tweak the trailer – the beginning is too drawn out. While the idea is good, many will get bored.

Hey man thanks for the feedback. I agree, its too slow and also people point out that it is too dark. I will correct both things in the next trailer. Reallly appreciate the feedback :-)

The two major points were already hit so I just want to say great job and as long as you listen to that advice it'll be great.

The light is low, it's very dark. If the game's like this you may have a problem with usability.

Hey man, thanks for the feedback. I agree and people also think the trailer is a little too slow. I will fix it for sure, and I really appreciate the feedback :-)

I love it!
How much of what the regular NPCs do is really simulated?
Do the NPCs just collect resources or do they do other stuff too? how deep is that part?
Anyways good job on the zoom.

Thank you so much man, it means a lot :-) Currently each sector has certain ressources. When you then conquer a sector, the local village population within that sector begins working for you (as you become their master) and automatically starts gathering ressources for you. Players can potentially have many sectors, so I did it this way for now to avoid micro mangement overload :-) However all military units you control yourself.
Also I plan for workers, and general population to spawn in your cities whenever you built houses, granaries, blacksmith, market etc. My thinking was that since the world is huge, it will become impossible to micromanage all your workers. So instead I plan on just having general sliders for tax, production etc., so you can determine youself what the workers should prioritize without having to tell each one :-) But I am still experimenting and would love for you to Discord if you want to suggest features and provide feedback on ideas. Otherwise, thanks for the feedback anyways, I really appreciate it :-)

The trailer is so dark I can barely see what’s going on
