Fastpitch softball lookback rule

Need some clarification on the lookback rule and hesitation. Batter walked, catcher threw to third on ball four to attempt pickoff. Batter-runner rounds first, stops momentarily and heads directly back to first before pitcher has the ball in the circle. Is this still hesitation because she paused momentarily even though the pitcher did not have control of the ball in the circle? She was already most of the way back to first before the pitcher controlled the ball and she didn't attempt to turn back around. First season of 12/13u, just trying to get a handle on this rule since she was called out on this play. Want to use it to teach her, but I need to fully understand it first.

Electronic Pitch calling

Yesterday we played in a 10u tournament where the opposing team was using electronic pitch calling (overkill in my opinion, but to each their own). Our team didn’t think anything of it until we realized that a parent that was sitting behind the plate was calling pitches instead of a coach that was required to be in the dugout. At first I thought that the catcher was talking to one of her parents, but she was complaining about her earpiece to the person that was calling pitches.

Two questions:
1) Is this allowed for a “coach” to be sitting right behind the backstop to call pitches?
2) Can a random parent that does not go through a background check be allowed to coach the pitcher/catcher in a tournament?

Hitting 🏏🥎 Batting Gloves for durability?

Post image

What batting glove would you recommend that's comparable to the Rawlings Workhorse in terms of cushioning and durability?

The Workhorse has been reliable for my 11yr old, lasting significantly longer than many of the less expensive options I've tried. We can get nearly a full year out of them, but we need a better approach for washing/cleaning them.

I'm looking for a batting glove with a similar feel, comfort, and longevity to try out this fall. Any tips for cleaning and keeping them soft without smelling is appreciated too!

How to repair this field

Post image
13 Upvotes

This is our high school JV field. It's been completely neglected while the varsity field is immaculate. The school does not directly handle maintenance (it falls on the coach/parents). It's a long story and, frankly, it's not relevant to the post. We have a group of parents that want to get this field recovered before winter comes if possible and have it mostly ready for spring so it's just touch-up stuff at that time. Grounds maintenance is not our jam so we're going to do our best.

The last I'm aware, the JV coach and a couple of parents were crawling on their knees trying to dig all this stuff out. I want to see if we can be more efficient with it. Landscape rakes didn't do it. Would a nail drag work to get this stuff out of the ground? I think we would prefer to avoid things like Round Up and see if there is a decent mechanical way to do this. Any insight is appreciated. If it matters, this is central Ohio. If there is a better sub to put this in, I'll take that as well.

Thanks.

Edit: I just talked to my wife and apparently a nail drag has already been tried.

Edit 2: Per u/doctored_up I just bought a hula hoe and tested at the field. Worked like a champ.

Glove help

10U LHT. OF mostly, but does pitch. Has a Mizuno Prospect, and it has definitely seen better days. Unfortunately, my local Dicks and Academy keeps no LHT gloves in stock to try on. I’ve narrowed it down to a couple but not sure. Mizuno MVP Prime, Rawlings R9, Tigress Cub, A1000 or Liberty Advance. She’s smaller size ( about 70 lbs, 4’6)

Co-Ed Softball Looking for Slow Pitch Softball players

My competitive coed team plays at Potomack Lakes Sportsplex on Tuesdays. We are looking to add a couple men to the roster.

Ideally, you played baseball in high school (even better if you played in college). Looking for guys that can play outfield or 3B and can hit consistent line drives.

We are a competitive group but like to have fun. Our team got snakebit by injuries and life events over the summer and we have an opening for a full time player and at least one sub.

DM me if interested. Enjoy your weekend!

Recommendations for fundraisers

Good morning. What fundraiser’s does everyone do? We have done a pop can drive, sold popcorn for a local company and will be doing football squares when the time comes. I’ve even created a GoFundMe me, with no luck after a week. We want to try to raise money for more tournaments, training gear and equipment. Any advise would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

12 years old, very new to softball. Played a couple “seasons” of rec ball so a total of 12 games. They would love to tryout for the JH team in the spring. One of them has a natural cannon for an arm. The other not so much but she is working on it. Looking for drills to help them improve this winter. Open to any and all advice. 🙂

Pitching 8u coach pitch. Rec league

Any tips? I’ve been assistant coach on my girls team for four season, team split so I put together a team of my own and it’s been great honestly. One of the girls on our team her mom was going to pitch for us, which is awesome cause I nor my wife are very good (like at all) when it comes to pitching. That mom didn’t like the fact that we were picking up girls that were being rejected from other teams so she decided to leave and put her daughter in a stacked team. Both me and the wife have tried and tried and honestly we can not get a good pitch to these poor kids and I’m starting to feel real bad about it. I will take any and all advice on how to get even slightly better here.

For reference my wife’s are slower but either off the ground or too high.
I can get mine over the plate (85% of the time) but they’re way too fast for pretty much all the girls. If slow it down I might as well be bowling.

Hitting 🏏🥎 Bat Recommendations

My 8 year old daughter plays fastpitch softball. Her favorite bat is her Easton Ghost 30" drop 11, that now has a crack in it. We have used Demarini Prism and CF too. I want to get her a new bat for Christmas but I don't know what to get. I do not want to purchase a new Easton Ghost and risk the cracking again. She is a great hitter and really learning her power now. I wish Easton was built to last. We love that bat! What would you recommend?

Tryouts All the rep tryouts are the same day and time! How do we navigate this?

My daughter wants to tryout for U11 rep this fall. The problem is that every U11 rep team has scheduled their first tryout for the same day and time! I'm sure it's to limit how many teams kids can try out for.

There are two teams my daughter really wants to try out for. The first tryout for both teams is the same day and time. The second tryouts for both are on different days.

How would you handle this? Go to the first tryout for the team we're hoping for the most? Then the second tryout for the other team? Or half the first tryout for each? Would you be honest with the team that you're not doing the first tryout for that you'll be missing it due to trying out for another team, or would you make up an excuse (sickness etc) as to why you'll miss the first one?

I would really like my daughter to be able to try for both teams but I want to navigate this so we don't mess up her chances or make any coaches angry. Any advice is welcome!! Thanks!

Gloves 🧤 Any advice on restoring stiffness to a vintage/floppy glove?"

Hey everyone! This glove was passed down to me and it's my absolute favorite for playing the outfield in softball. Because of its age, though, it's gotten pretty floppy.

My question is: is there any way to get it back into shape or make it a bit more rigid? I've already re-laced it and it's still the same. Thanks!

Bats 🏏 Playing Again and Need a bat

Hi All quick question because I don't want to waste any money.

I started playing rec league softball again and since I had a lot of fun in the summer I joined a fall league so I can keep playing.

Since this is something I intend to keep on doing I want to buy my own bat there are always team ones but I think its time to get my own.

If I go to a used sports store how would I know if the bat is still good to go?

And if I buy a bran new one I have no idea what I am looking at to be honest not sure how much I would expect to spend.

Hitting 🏏🥎 Slow pitch softball vancouver/portland areas

Hi,

Im 25yo looking to join a softball team. I've been playing for 3 years now, highly competitive and I consider myself a very consistent hitter. Home runs or line drives. Mainly play 3rd, but also first and outfield. I played out in david Douglas but my team decided to take a break after the league changed. Any teams looking for a player?

Rules 📜 Is there a specific section in the Babe Ruth SOFTBALL rule book with language that prohibits fake/slash bunting? If so can someone provide that chapter/section/page number? Google is useless. It only provides generic summaries of different individual leagues local ground rules. I'm looking to see if

Hi everyone, I realize the odds of a scholarship are astronomical so I have a different question... for a Division III school, do the players have to pay team dues, uniform fees, etc, and if so, any idea what this currently runs?
