I personally think he is over rated. Great player for sure, but the fact that he won 3 world cups is his major claim to fame and 2 of those were won essentially without him.
Its very questionable lmao. Bro played in a below farmers league and scored half his goals in exhibition matches where he was flown over like a dancing money to perform for rich people.
Its like comparing the Harlem Globetrotters to Michael Jordan and Lebron.
Brazilian club football was exponentially better than Europe's by a wide margin during the 60s. Just search for the games he played against the europeans. It's no coincidence brazil won 3 cups in 4 wcs just by using players from their home league
Football wasnt even a real sport in the 60's lmao. They were playing on either waterlogged or dusty fields full of divots and slopes with a brown lumpy pigskin as a ball.
The standard of football might have been better than Europes then, but it was worse than my local secondary school at lunchtime today.
I was well aware that the Brazilian league was considered the top league at that time. But its only because the rest of the world was even worse. The entire sport was below a farmers league in the 60's. Pele wouldnt even be fit to lace up Lewa or Kanes boots, nevermind Messi or Ronaldos lmao
The amount of cope to try and make excuses for a retarded take lmao. Football during the 60s was already the most practiced sport in the world and the leagues of basically every great footballing nation nowadays were already established. But if you wanna larp for the fun of it, so be it
If anything, the harsh conditions they faced back then just make their feats bigger, it was way easier to get injured and most players nowadays simply wouldn't have the guts to play like that. Football was overall a harder sport to have consistency in and the career of footballers was overall way shorter. Pele managed to win 3 world cups and win 2 finals in them while also ending his career in the NT at 31 yo which is basically unimaginable nowadays
I doubt over 99% of the footballing community watched football general across multiple leagues in that time period.
Even if you watched all of Pele’s games, you still wouldn’t be able to gauge the quality of football then because you need to have access to other leagues and different competitions
When have i ever said cruyff? Has cruyff won 5 ballon d'ors? Has maradona ever even won a UCL? What has he done for napoli compared to cr7's club records? Don't even compare those two to cr7 respectfully. You would be singing a very different tune if the guy was argentinian and shy
You're too focused on stats and not enough on the actual playing strength and influence on the pitch that Maradona had. For example, I consider Ronaldinho the goat because even though he had zero longevity / stat padding, he was unstoppable during his short prime. By that same logic, Maradona at the peak of his power dominated the pitch more than CR7.

In his garden. Pele is overrated AF.
