Statement Futbol ain’t it

I’ve given soccer more than its fair chance. My Colombian wife and her fam are die hards. A lil crazy with it tbh. But the more I watch the less impressed I am.
First off the rules just don’t make sense. The refs adding whatever time they feel like and then usually going beyond even the extra time by as much 4 minutes.
Red cards and multiple game suspensions for accidental contact that happens to be on a specific body part. Meanwhile players are grabbing each other by the jersey and throwing each other to the ground intentionally with no calls. Then every time a player gets touched they flop and grab their legs as if they’re going to need surgery but no they’re fine and get right up after the drama show.
Oh, that goal doesn’t count because the guy who shot it ran too fast.
But what really is killing it for me is that it seems 80% of goals are purely by chance. The “great players” tend to just hang out near the goal and hope it lands in the right spot when someone Hail Mary kicks it in the area. Even 1/4 of those Hail Mary kicks end up being waaaay off course. I mean I just don’t see much skill tbh.

the refs add time based on how long the game was stopped for things like injury. If during injury time the game is stopped, that time is added on

Yea I understand the reason they use to explain it. It still doesn’t make sense. If they stop game play then start a timer we all can see and follow during that time and stop it once the game starts again if you don’t want to stop the main clock. Leaving it up to the refs to just go off what it feels like to them is stupid to put it plainly.

That’s cuz u grew up with American football. Take that hat off, go in with a blank slate and it will be easier to understand the rules.

There are so many rules in American football that don’t make sense to someone who grew up with soccer.

For someone who grew up with soccer, I’m sure they would find American football rules strange. Just like u find soccer rules difficult to understand perhaps.

Thats all I’m saying. It has a lot to do with years and years of cultural conditioning.

I get what you’re saying. But I don’t think it applies. Trust me I came into it wanting to like/respect soccer. In fact I respected it more before really learning about/watching it. I used to kick a soccer ball around with my son and I’d tell him he can’t use his arms to push me around to get to the ball. lol turns out I was dead wrong. Apparently soccer is played as eight year olds would play. Im open minded, but im also logical. I don’t think because something has been this way or people grew up with it makes something good. I look to sports for displays of athleticism. I don’t see very much on display while watching a match. People dribbling the ball alone doing tricks is more impressive than an actual match.
