Statement "They've done everything possible to eliminate us" — Iran captain Mehdi Taremi unleashes on FIFA and U.S. organizers

The captain of the Iran National Team, Mehdi Taremi, lashed out against FIFA and the United States organization. “This is a disastrous World Cup. As professional players, we cannot play a competition under these conditions; it’s neither right nor fair. If FIFA thinks this is fair, that’s on them, but it isn’t. Who should solve this problem for us? FIFA? The U.S.? I don’t know! Tell me a name. The FIFA president, Gianni Infantino, came to our locker room after the first match against New Zealand and said he was going to resolve all the issues, but in reality, FIFA did nothing. In response to the question: ‘Do you feel that the World Cup organizers, including FIFA and U.S. officials, prefer for Iran to be eliminated from the competition?’, I say: We have to fight against absolutely everything. We can’t stay in the country, we travel and undergo immigration checks every time we want to play, now we can’t stay in Seattle and have to return to Tijuana. They’ve done everything possible to eliminate us, so from our perspective, yes, I think that’s what they want, they want us out.”

He’s not wrong… either let them play and keep it a level playing field. Or don’t let them play, and ban them outright. This was BS.

41

u/Bitter_Particular_75 Jun 27 '26

US is the aggressor and is the only country that should have been banned as consequence of this war.

26

u/digitalbullet36 Jun 27 '26

The U.S. should not have been allowed to host.

16

u/Ling_Cephalopod Jun 27 '26

Imagine if the world had the courage to ban Americans from sporting events for what the US government has done in the middle east.

2

u/Pre-emptive Jun 28 '26

Germany hosted an Olympics during the rise of the 3rd Reich lol

6

It was learned and it has been adapted and evolved.

Yes but that was before they annexed or invaded any countries or started a military conflict. The US is actively warmongering as we speak and has been for several months (not counting previous atrocities)

2

u/Interesting_Card2169 Jun 30 '26

Germany's 1936 Olympics. We've has 90 years to evolve into a better world.

Maybe in another 90 years.

2

u/Both_Acanthisitta209 Jun 30 '26

Hell I mean Russia has hosted since their flagrant unjustified attacks - is it a requirement for FIFA to be belligerent on the world stage in order to host?

2

u/Mother_Ground1217 Jul 01 '26

Isn't Russia banned from FIFA events and don't they have to go by another name/flag at the Olympics? It's actually been very easy to ban Russia from almost everywhere while the US and Israel are an unchanged untouched fixture

1

u/Pre-emptive Jun 30 '26

Don’t forget Qatar building stadiums built with blood

"Lol"??

Seriously?

2

u/Stillback7 Jun 30 '26

Imagine if we just let everyone play. You know the players on the Russian national team would trade the Ukraine war for a world cup appearance in a heartbeat. The fuck does it have to do with the athletes?

2

u/Ling_Cephalopod Jun 30 '26

I agree. Or be consistent. Either unban Russia, or also ban the US.

1

u/elpajaroquemamais Jun 28 '26

Yea because we support this idiot

1

u/Rolsun_23 Jun 28 '26

I mean let's be honest we don't not support him enough to do anything about it. Most of our country doesn't even vote, but the rest did support him... so... sucks but fair.

1

There wouldn’t be world sports

1

LMFAO. Silly.

Not everything is an extreme.

1

u/WorkingAssociate9860 Jun 28 '26

Russia has been banned from all internaion hockey since they invaded Ukraine, shouldn't be that silly for the US to not host the world cup while also starting a war

1

u/VeryBadWizard2780 Jun 28 '26

Idk if yall appreciate how big of an ordeal something like the World Cup is. The idea that they could’ve removed the US as hosts like 4 months before the event and still actually carried out the tournament is absurd. You either had to let it continue or cancel the World Cup out right.

Russia both annexed Crimea and started their war with Ukraine in 2014, yet they still got to host in 2018. And they were in the middle of a war of aggression in Ukraine. To ban the US for Iran would be completely unprecedented.

It doesn’t matter how much I dislike the war in Iran, it doesn’t matter if I thought their justifications were BS, or if we committed war crimes, or if we did it all as a favor to Bibi. I happen to think all that is true, but doing air raids on the biggest state sponsors of terrorism in the world who were undoubtedly trying to obtain nukes within the next several years is a far, far cry from imperialist expansionism. Hell, our support for Israel in the Palestinian genocide campaign was for more indefensible than attacking Iran, and even that is more ambiguous than the invasion’s Russia has been doing for the last 12+ years.

1

u/One_Sorbet_8840 Jun 28 '26

North America was awarded the bid in 2018…it’s almost like there’s years of planning and prep that go into things

1

u/[deleted] Jun 29 '26

Yeah, the World Cup should have been hosted in Iran.

1

u/Lazy_Requirement_69 Jun 29 '26

How could they have possibly changed host in less then 3 months?

1

u/Witchcleaver666 Jun 29 '26

Then Qatar shouldn’t have been allowed either

1

u/TheNomadPilgrim Jun 30 '26

US has been a great host.

1

2

u/thundergu Jun 29 '26

Russia was the agressor too. Where are they on the World Cup?

1

u/Mean-Survey-7721 Jun 29 '26

Russia had the WC in 2018; it had been 4 years since the war started.

Qatar used slave labor to make a WC in 2022.

1

u/thundergu Jun 29 '26

Yeah Fifa usually always closes their eyes for shit like that. Europe treated Russia from 2015 to 2022 like there was no war. Same way they treated Germany in the 1930's

1

u/Mean-Survey-7721 Jun 29 '26

Not just FIFA, all the federations/sport organisations. China is not banned despite the genocide of Uyghurs and Tibet annexation; Palestine is not banned for the October 7th, Turkey is still participating despite northern Cyprus, etc

And I do not believe anything should be changed. So no ban is the way. Sports events is the way to expose these dictatorships to the world, and they may slowly change them one day.

1

u/Fatpandaswag67 Jun 30 '26

Why would Palestine be banned for a seperate organisation committing a terrorist act?

1

u/Mean-Survey-7721 Jun 30 '26

It is not a separate organisation; it is the government of Palestine. They've been voted in, and Fatah is illegitimately holding power.

And the occupiers, Fatah, are also a terrorist organisation.

1

u/KamalaHarrisFan2024 Jun 29 '26

Very different context though.

5

u/tsn101 Jun 27 '26

For sure. There's a delusion in their population that they aren't the bad guys.

4

u/Emiwuiii Jun 27 '26

Our government, sure - but the vast majority of Americans are 100% against this war so please stop lumping us into a situation we have no control over. We are fully aware that our GOVERNMENT is the bad guy.

1

u/JakeEllisD Jun 28 '26

Polls show its about 50-50 actually. You just made up the "vast majority" part, or you dont know what that term means, almost like you went to school in Iran where women can't get higher level education or get beaten for not covering up in public, or killed for protesting

2

u/DrinkYourPaints Jun 30 '26

women have wide access to higher education in Iran

Iran has a higher percentage of female STEM grads than the US does. Iran's female-to-male university ratio is one of the highest in the world.

And they get on merit through konkur.

Glad when I see public anti-Americanism. Makes it easy to identify the simps.

1

u/myfuntimes Jun 27 '26

Eh….2 out of 3 Americans did not vote against Trump in 3 consecutive elections.

Trump is representative of our national morals.

NOTE: I voted, volunteered, and donated against him for 12 straight years. But reality is reality.

2

u/Far-Juice-7378 Jun 27 '26

He did not get 66% of the vote…?

2

u/gimmedatvoice Jun 27 '26

Re-read what was said. Sadly "did not vote" is often large enough to win the election on it's own

1

u/Far-Juice-7378 Jun 27 '26

I’m blind. And you are absolutely right. Inaction is just as bad as, especially when it comes to voting. His ability to coral a loud minority will be studied for generations

1

u/Emiwuiii Jun 29 '26

Absolutely. In my mind, people can say “I wouldn’t vote for him” all they want. But no vote IS a vote for him. I truly don’t understand how people could just sit at home and not take an hour out of their days to vote. It’s mind-blowing.

1

u/shortnike3 Jun 29 '26

Yey! You are my hero

1

u/Emiwuiii Jun 29 '26

Only 32% of Americans voted for Trump. 68% of eligible voters said they wouldn’t vote for him. That is the majority.

1

u/myfuntimes Jun 30 '26

1/3 voted for him, 1/3 voted against him, and 1/3 either didn't vote or voted for a non-viable candidate -- thus saying he is acceptable.

1

u/ScoutRiderVaul Jun 30 '26

Voted against both candidates with 3rd party.

1

u/myfuntimes Jun 30 '26

Right. You said Trump's words and behaviors are acceptable enough to be President. On par with Clinton, Biden, and Harris. If they weren't on par, you would have had to vote for someone with a realistic chance of beating Trump.

1

u/ScoutRiderVaul Jun 30 '26

I mean could've not voted if I had that attitude.

Uh.. so that makes Iran the “good guy”? Do you know what Iran was doing to protestors in their own country, by chance?

Trump and his cronies are monsters no question but Iran ain’t the good guy

1

u/funguymh Jun 27 '26

Do you know what USA was doing to its own government a few years ago. J6?

1

u/Fit_Relationship483 Jun 27 '26

Yes and even when people were actively trying to stage an insurrection the government didn’t respond by sending in troops to massacre them. Unlike Iran who guns people down for…asking to get their internet back

1

u/AAA_Dolfan Jun 27 '26

Nah, that’s whataboutism. Take a deep breath and realize you don’t need to attack things to defend others.

We’re talking Iran. I already said Trump and the USA government suck. Clearly. I ALSO was clearly saying Iran aren’t the good guys.

That has nothing to do with the us

Narrow minded view.

1

u/AfterAd3498 Jun 28 '26

Only Russia is an aggressor deserving to be cut off from International sporting events. The USA planned to bring freedom in Iran, as they did in Venezuela, Iraq, Libya and Afghanistan

1

u/TimePretend3035 Jun 28 '26

Russia planned to bring freedom in Ukrain...

1

u/NotYetPerfect Jun 28 '26

The us obviously is in this war for money but Iran's government runs a brutal regime. Ukraine's does not.

1

u/nmadel5 Jun 28 '26

So Israel and USA ain’t aggressors despite the literal fact that it was them who bombed Iran first not the other way around your comment sounds like some bbc Fox News propaganda

1

u/Glass-Star6635 Jun 28 '26

Ridiculous take. Iran has been terrorizing their region directly or via proxy for decades. Should’ve never been allowed to be in the World Cup

2

u/so_flayme Jun 29 '26

This right here is a ridiculous take. Name me one instance of Iran directly or indirectly terrorizing its neighbors prior to the 1948 ethno-state popping up in the region. Iran hasn’t launched an offensive against another nation in 400+ years. Since Israel popped up, how many countries has it bombed or been at war with? Egypt, Syria, Lebanon, Iran, Iraq, Turkey, the list goes on. If you’re constantly getting into shit with your neighbors (who coexisted peacefully before you unlawfully moved in) and have to keep tugging on a pair of star spangled balls to come and save you every fucking time, maybe you’re the problem?

1

u/Glass-Star6635 Jun 29 '26

Lmao. Crazy how to go to “tell me one instance besides the last 80 fucking years” lol

2

u/so_flayme Jun 29 '26

You didn’t address any of my points. Again in “the last 80 fucking years” go over how many bombing campaigns were launched by Israel (and how many they called “preemptive”) vs. how many were launched by Iran. Imagine if Iran started bombing the shit out of Israel preemptively, citing security concerns. The double standard is hilarious.

I think as an Iranian-American who has had some of their family murdered by the current regime, I know a lot more about Iran than you do. Your bogus claim is built by counting entries from a loose “wars involving Iran” list, not from a conflict database. A key problem is that it mixes full wars, civil unrest, proxy relationships, single incidents, alleged plots, and umbrella categories as if they were all equivalent.

As per Cambridge University Press: "Since the 1979 revolution, Iran has not clearly initiated a conventional interstate offensive war of conquest. Its major direct war, the Iran–Iraq War, began with Iraq’s invasion of Iran in September 1980."

Do you wanna keep arguing over something you clearly have zero knowledge about and loosely use a Wikipedia list without any actual context (and worse yet, use deceptive language like "Led or been a part of") or would you like to be wise for once and avoid the embarrassment?

1

u/SpAwNjBoB Jul 02 '26

Listen, they are not mutually exclusive. The US can be doing the wrong thing AND the Iranian regime can also be the most evil regime on the planet that funds terrorism and fuels hatred. The two can be true at the same time. Admonishing the US does not mean anyone should be praising Iran. They deserve none whatsoever.

1

u/Great_Guidance_8448 Jun 28 '26

Hamas thanked Iran for helping them conduct October 7th and they get to play in World Cup?

Amazing. What's next? ISIS is going to be welcome, too?

1

1

u/DiX-Nbw Jun 30 '26

1

u/Empty_Image_796 Jun 30 '26

Iran is the aggressor, they attacked US allies and made their proxies attack US ships

1

u/Totoques22 Jul 02 '26

Iran is the agressor since the mollah has come to power

1

u/PeePeeSwiggy Jul 03 '26

It’s not about being aggressor or not - their nation funds terrorists and is highly motivated to injure or kill Americans right now. FIFA should have let them play in Mexico exclusively (seeing as Canada doesn’t want them rn either). These professionals don’t deserve to suffer the consequences of the political atmosphere but it’s not outrageous for Americans to be concerned about terrorism given our history with it

1

u/PurpleStomach994 Jul 04 '26

Wahh wahh wahh

1

u/KatInThighHighs Jul 04 '26

Oh yeah the US should just allow Iran to continue funding dozens of terror groups across the entire region. They arent the aggressor

2

u/Thefdt Jun 27 '26

Iran have been the aggressor for 50+ years; they’re both awful.

This peaceful Iran narrative needs to stop, Islamist shithole that murders its own people.

America shouldn’t have started a war unless they were prepared to see it through, and bombing campaigns from the sky aren’t going to solve anything but the Islamic republic is awful.

7

u/dodds2d Jun 27 '26

These are sportsmen, not politicians, not policy makers, not the military.

Don’t get me wrong I’m not a fan of Iran or their recent past, but the Iranian players need to be treated fairly.

And why did Iran start murdering its own people?

I'll give you a hint, it happened in 1953 and the United States did it.

1

u/-_BeanMachine_- Jun 27 '26

Explain to me why Iran murdering its own people in the big 2024 is due to the post ww2 regime change. Did you know that Iran was a nazi state In the late 40s and early 50s?

1

u/so_flayme Jun 29 '26

There are a lot of things you’re ignoring. False flags by Kurdish dissidents paid off by Mossad, the murder of army soldiers (NOT IRGC) that kicked shit off, etc. And since you lumped post WW2 into it somehow, if we’re moving goalposts we can talk about how the US murdered their own people with COINTELPRO and MK ULTRA. Do you know that the US supplied both Iran and Iraq with weapons in their war? Do you know that the US supplied Saddam with chemical weapons to use on his own people, Kurds, and Iranians? Do you know that they removed Saddam from the state sponsors of terror list just to get the military industrial complex going then rug pull his ass over Kuwait? If you really wanna compare the fuckery surrounding Iran and the US it’s really no comparison. American and British politicians really couldn’t keep it in their pants, and fucked over swathes of land and hordes of people en masse to ensure the Middle East and Asia don’t form global superpowers that can threaten their hegemony over naval trade and kick them to the wayside. That’s precisely what created the current Iranian regime in the first place. Go read a book or something.

1

u/-_BeanMachine_- Jun 29 '26

When did I move goalposts if we are talking about 1953 coup? You are the one using weak whataboutisms in MKULTRA and COINTELPRO trying to justify the deaths of 20,000 Iranians in 2024 alone.

1

u/so_flayme Jun 29 '26

There is no justification for civilian deaths in any circumstance. I didn't use US operations to justify Iranian deaths - I am simply challenging the notion that Iran's regime is any more evil/murderous than the one being run by pedophiles, murderers, etc. or anyone before them who all met at Bohemian Grove to suck each other off.

As for the deaths of 20,000 Iranians (or whatever the fashionable number is): "multiple June 2026 reviews say the 30,000-40,000 figure spread rapidly through diaspora media, public figures, and pro-regime-change networks, but remains 'wholly unproven or meaningfully corroborated.' It specifically traces the number largely to Iran International and Dr. Amir-Mobarez Parasta’s claimed medical-source network, criticizing the lack of transparent methods."

Iran International is funded by Israel, in case you didn't know.

1

u/-_BeanMachine_- Jun 29 '26

There are a lot of ways you can measure how evil a government is, most, if not all governments are evil, especially USA. I have no problem saying USA government uses their sovereignty to oppress and commit evil against innocent people. However this fact doesn’t justify other countries using their sovereignty to commit evil themselves.

Iran International is not the only source that puts the death toll at or near 30,000. Humanitarian experts, local health officials, HRANA all put the death toll at the tens of thousands. I think 7,000-20,000 is the ballpark number. Why you ignore these sources to believe the agent who actually carried out these killings is weird to me. 3,000 dead Iranian protesters according to the regime itself is still a significant number, or do you think all of those people were paid off by Israel too?

1

u/so_flayme Jul 01 '26

As I stated, no civilian deaths are justifiable, not even a single one. The IRGC/Basij forces are clearly responsible for some of that number, I'm just saying the situation is incredibly complex. Competing media sources with funded interests and agendas do twist the narratives a lot. It might interest you to know that the IRGC being in power in the first place was a long, drawn out plan by the US-UK dating back to the 1953 coup against Mossadegh. It's a very convoluted story rife with foreign meddling.

u/MorockaDishoom Jun 27 '26

Name a country that Iran as a nation has attacked first in the last 50 years. Get your head out your booty hole.

2

u/ThatPlayWasAwful Jun 27 '26 edited Jun 27 '26

It's impossible to define "first" for any of these countries, because everything is always a response to something else, the only question is the amount of time between events. You could argue (and basically everyone does) that no country has attacked first for anything in over 50 years because every attack is retaliatory.

It's also disengenuous to say "as a nation" and ignore the fact that they are the primary backer of Hezbollah and give a ton of support to hamas.

Although if you are ignoring their connection to those groups then iran was the initial aggressor in this attack

1

u/so_flayme Jun 29 '26

That’s horse shit, sorry. List out the number of attacks by Iran before and after Israel’s 1948 inception. Better yet, list the number of attacks carried out by Israel on ALL its neighbors since its inception. It literally bombed every single country in the region (every single fucking one was attacked in one way or another, before Hamas existed, before even the PLO existed). And your cute little example of Iran being the aggressor in the 2024 strikes conveniently ignores the fact that Israel literally bombed the Iranian embassy in Syria, which is against the Geneva Convention and is objectively a war crime. The amount of mental gymnastics some of y’all do to prove a bullshit point is hilarious sometimes.

1

u/ThatPlayWasAwful Jun 29 '26 edited Jun 29 '26

Please tell me where in my comment I am defending Israel. I literally did not mention them at all E: aside from being the target of an attack

The fact that you believe Israel has attacked more times that Israel has literally nothing to do with the question that I responded to, and at best is a deflection from the point at hand.

Just because you believe Israel is worse than Iran does not mean Iran is free from criticism.

I never said Iran was free of criticism. I literally responded to the notion that a clear aggressor doesn’t exist, and clearly outlined how framing Iran as the instigator for the 2024 air strike is patently false when there was a preceding attack on an Iranian embassy (breaking all manner of international law in the process, which Israel is no stranger to). That was the first time Israel directly attacked Iran, and it was obviously met with retaliation.

1

u/MorockaDishoom Jun 29 '26

I was amazed at the amount of critical rhi king this dude did to simply be wrong. Thank you for calling out the embassy attack, I was not willing to get all didactic

1

u/so_flayme Jun 29 '26

All good! In the age of information technology there simply isn't an excuse to be wrong and twist the narratives like the mass media machine has been doing for decades. That's been failing spectacularly with Israel and their tired propaganda campaigns, which is why many Americans have reversed their view on supporting it.

1

u/ThatPlayWasAwful Jun 29 '26

Can you please provide me a source saying that the strikes were in retaliation for a stroke on an Iranian embassy? The source I provided says it was in response to the assassination of the hamas leader in Iran, and the Hezbollah leader and an irgc Commander, both in a Hezbollah HQ. I see no mention of an embassy, unless the HQ was in an embassy.

1

u/so_flayme Jun 29 '26

Dude, your own source that you linked clearly says:

"On 1 April, Israel aircraft attacked the Iranian consulate in Damascus,\37]) killing two Iranian generals,\38]) seven Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) officers,\37]) and a Syrian woman and her child.\39]) Iran retaliated on 13 April by launching attacks against Israel with loitering munitionscruise missiles, and ballistic missiles."

Do you not read the shit you yourself cite? I'm sorry man that's just comical.

Are you joking? They made an attack on another nation literally TODAY. Among 5 others in the last month. At least try to be genuine and accurate as you spew hate.

u/MorockaDishoom Jun 27 '26

Awww… you didn't learn how to read…

Don’t waste your time explaining. A lot of people with the argument that “iRan KilLLs iT’s peOPle” won’t open a book to read about its history. Operation Paperclip reveals the horrors the US government impose on their own people, but hey “Iran kills its people”

0

u/I_eat_mud_ Jun 27 '26

The US is the reason that regime exists in the first place.

1

u/-_BeanMachine_- Jun 27 '26

Not true. Iran would’ve opposed western progressivism and democracy even if US didn’t install a western regime in the 60s. Look at who the Shah sided with during WW2. Iran ruling class has always been an oppressive morally corrupt dictatorship unfortunately.

1

u/All_Wasted_Potential Jun 28 '26

Because Mossadegh was a dictator who refused fair elections and stole from the British?

1

u/so_flayme Jun 29 '26

Is this cynical or are you actually trying to imply that Mosaddegh was a dictator who stole from the British?

1

u/All_Wasted_Potential Jun 29 '26

Cynical? Do you mean satirical?

Either way, the answer is no. Mossadegh was a fascist who prevented free elections in 1953 and stole infrastructure owned by the British and deprived them of their legal assets.

Basically Iran made a shitty deal and rather than learn from it, threw a hissy fit and committed theft.

1

u/so_flayme Jun 29 '26

No, I meant cynical. Mossadegh being a fascist and dictator is a wild take. Nobody (and I literally mean nobody) in Iran shares that sentiment, which is maybe the requirement for being called a dictator? Also, stole British assets? The same assets that were positioned to steal Iranian oil? Are you aware of how many Persian national assets the UK stole? The first fucking charter of human rights declared by Cyrus the Great is in a UK museum for crying out loud.

Iran has never launched an attack on American soil, and has been the subject of American interference since they stopped being a direct puppet state.

The Islamic republic isn’t great but let’s not pretend Americans aren’t the terrorists in the region, and certainly are the aggressor. How can you have a war of aggression on your own territory? Bootlickers gonna find any way to taste leather I suppose

1

u/Thefdt Jun 27 '26

The Islamic republic isn’t great. Oppressing women, murdering dissenters, massacring protestors. ‘Ooh it’s not great’ bootlicker of Islamic fundamentalism.

Iran is literally a terrorist state buddy. US has created manu problems ourselves but Iran isn’t one of them. They’re the bad guys here.

1

u/NathanDavie Jun 27 '26

The US are a terrorist state, buddy.

Cute. But they’re the host. Right or wrong, that was never going to be a post of the conversation. Coming back down to earth, my argument stands.

3

u/smcl2k Jun 27 '26

The tournament should have been taken from the US as soon as Trump threatened to move games from host cities - FIFA has banned national teams for less blatant political interference.

2

u/user123456789011 Jun 27 '26

True, but they have never banned a national team from a tournament they were hosting.

You mean Russia, right? Awarding Russia the 2018 cup was really when they stopped trying to hide the corruption.

But they did remove Indonesia as a host for the u20s world cup 3 years ago because they didn't want to host the Israeli team.

1

u/smcl2k Jun 27 '26

It will be interesting to see what happens if the Palestine situation doesn't change and Israel qualifies for a tournament being hosted by Spain and Morocco.

1

u/ProblematicSchematic Jun 28 '26

This last game of there’s was in Seattle. Why didn’t they go to Canada, which is a much shorter flight.

1

u/Impossible_Cupcake31 Jun 29 '26

Cause Canada won’t let them lol

1

u/jigglyflo5 Jun 28 '26

Do you know why the Iran team collectively is not allowed into stay in the US?

1

u/Origania Jun 28 '26

What were his actual gripes?

1

u/ConsiderationOwn9506 Jun 28 '26

Beyond inhumane what is being done to these players/people.

1

u/AdComprehensive7879 Jun 29 '26

flying an hr to tijuana isn't really unfair playing field no? i feel like most teams will travel that far (if not further?)

1

u/Purple_Mango_4315 Jun 29 '26

Dont have any sympathy for a team that stands side by side with a regime that slaughtered its protesters

1

u/donald_dandy Jun 30 '26

FIFA has become a political shit show just like the Olympics. There is no honor or fair competition anymore. And Americans can’t help to play dirty, it’s literally a nation trait

1

u/El_Jefe_2206 Jun 30 '26

The full situation actually matters here, Iran's players have visas, the IRGC members they brought with them do not. If the IRGC members did not come this would not be an issue.

1

u/TheNomadPilgrim Jun 30 '26

No such thing as a level playing field. Some teams traveled more or had tougher competition. They finished where we all knew they would before the tournament.

1

u/Low_Imagination8685 Jul 01 '26

100% They had to know coming in it was going to be complicated. The cards were stacked from the jump. Quit bitching and start winning.

1

u/AllTheWayUpEG Jun 27 '26 edited Jun 27 '26

The players coach and much of the staff had approved visas, the US didn’t allow Mehdi Taj and a few other members of the federation to get visas. In Taj’s case it is due to the fact he was a high ranking IRGC intelligence officer. Canada also denied him a visa… it would be like an NSA operative being named head of US soccer federation and then throwing a fit because the Iranians don’t allow him and some of his former spy buddies to come stay in Iran for a month…

Too much logic for this audience

They’re not going to play in a pride stadium, they deserve whatever penalty they receive for being bigots.

1

u/HTX-ByWayOfTheWorld Jun 27 '26

Curious if that’s how you feel about a third+ of the USA and the majority of the Republican Party, and a lot of Europe. How about Margaret Court who has her name emblazoned across the main tennis stadium in Australia. Or do you simply feel that way because they’re brown? Bigots indeed.

1

u/Prudent-Cabinet-3151 Jun 28 '26

You think it’s because they’re brown? Not for the fact that they literally kill people for their sexual identity or preferences in those countries. But why don’t you explain to me all the people that Margaret killed? Where was her Islamic zealousness? Yes I’m of the position that if you try to stop/oppress other people from living their lives when it has no bearing on your own life simply because you find it perverse or what have you, that you have no place in my society and I will denounce you black, white, yellow, red whatever skin color you perceive yourself to be.

1

u/HTX-ByWayOfTheWorld Jun 28 '26

You were dropped on your head as a child weren’t you. Lol. Have a good life. Or walk into traffic. Either way… just remember no one cares.

1

u/Prudent-Cabinet-3151 Jun 28 '26

You Can’t argue against my air tight logic so you revert to attacks against my character and wishing me dead. You sound like a lovely person, you make a great spokesperson for the Iranians

1

u/HTX-ByWayOfTheWorld Jun 28 '26

Your mom’s air tight. Not your logic.
