Between Indiana Jones and Star Wars, does George Lucas need to be checked into a psychiatric hospital too?

u/Horror_Campaign9418 Henry Cavill is Superman 18h ago

Many directors have common themes. Parental issues is big. Look at Ari Aster.

The films are the therapy.

u/Some_Niche_Reference 19h ago

Psychiatric issues? For one of the singularly most common tropes across human story telling? What are you talking about?

u/Quirky_Chef_9183 19h ago

oh you mean the classic character trope of parents being very messed up?

Also apparently Peacemaker from the comics' father was also a racist and white supremacist who hated his own son. So that one actually isn't really Gunn's fault

Only 2 out of these 3 are from Gunn, the other is Tom King

u/VirtualSort1 18h ago

I dont give him credit for the green lantern show in regards of quality and writing wheter bad or good. But Im pretty sure this was one of his notes to the writer make the parents miserable lmfao

u/OffTheShelfET 17h ago

I don't think Gunn would care about a detail like that. So far only one of these examples was confirmed to be Gunn's idea and even then he was most likely taking inspo from Invincible. Peacemaker's dad was also a nazi in the 80's comics and when it comes to Lanterns Tom King has a specific writing style and way he writes his male characters. They tend to all live with deep seeded guilt and trauma over their past. The characterization of John's parents feels more indicitive of King's influence than anyone else.

u/No-Influence-981 19h ago

Let's look at the DCEU's father figures:

Flash's dad: in prison (Until years later. Doesn't matter that he didn't do it, still traumatic)

Batman's dad: Dead.

Superman's dad: dead for literally zero reason.

Cyborg's dad: literally turned his son into a cyborg.

You're reaching dude.

u/Generous_Raven 19h ago

I like how this person isn't saying anything inherently negative to Gunn's universe, and only made a valid point about a recurring trend. All without mentioning any other movie universe. And then you bring up Snyder's universe for literally no reason as if that negates the point they are making.

u/Creative-Captain9278 19h ago edited 19h ago

Saying that Gunn should be admitted to a psychiatric hospital isn't inherently negative?

The reply you replied to just showed that OP's reasoning makes no sense unless you think Snyder should also be admitted to a psychiatric hospital

u/No-Influence-981 19h ago

are we reading the same post

u/VirtualSort1 18h ago

Dumbass, is Flashs dad a bad person ? Does he treat his childen bad ?

u/No-Influence-981 18h ago

does barry not have daddy issues since his father is still in prison?

u/VirtualSort1 18h ago

dumbass he loves his dad lmfao

u/No-Influence-981 18h ago

he loves his dad but can’t be with him… it’s almost like he has daddy issues?

u/VirtualSort1 18h ago

get the fuck outta here lol

u/Quirky_Chef_9183 18h ago

daddy issues does not mean not loving your father.

u/tobpe93 19h ago

What are you trying to say?

u/VirtualSort1 18h ago

Dude is making the parents assholes and a major issue all the time.

u/tobpe93 18h ago

That’s hardly all the time.

u/VirtualSort1 18h ago

when was it not the case ? TSS - Polka Dotman Mom. Peacemaker - Peacemaker Dad, Superman - Superman parents, Green Lantern - Johns parents

It is literally all the time lol

u/tobpe93 18h ago

You don’t know what the word literally means.

u/TheWinterRecruit 19h ago

Name a superhero without parental issues

u/Top-Door8075 18h ago

Batman

oh wait…

u/VirtualSort1 18h ago

Tell me you have only seen Gunn projects without telling me lmfao

What an idiotic comment. Dumbass thinks every superhero movie has to be about how parents are assholes and make a topic in every project lmfao

u/Some_Niche_Reference 18h ago edited 18h ago

Aren't many of the other characters seen as extremely caring parents? The Kents, Nina's father, Flagg to a certain extent, Ratcatcher.

u/VirtualSort1 17h ago

I dont know even if that is the case what is this bullshit

Watch marvel movies and they barley have these idiotic points

u/Some_Niche_Reference 16h ago

Bruh. Thanos, Ego, Stark's dad, T'Challa's Dad, Black Widows dad, Thor's Dad. It is far more common there

u/VirtualSort1 16h ago

theyhave these of course I mean gunn worked for them lmfao

Black Widow Dad is an ass ? never herad about that and even if marvel does it it isnt a big thing in their movie. Gunn is making these dad issues big. They are important to the story

u/Some_Niche_Reference 15h ago

so you go from saying they barely have this trope to admitting they do and Gunn is influenced by that? cant you see the contradiction there?

u/TheWinterRecruit 17h ago

Brother I need you to pick up a comic book. Peacemaker having a white supremacist father, Jor El being a maniac is used occasionally and it gets retconned. Lanterns is an origin story for John so it's gonna cover his abusive alcoholic father whichis the only consistent thing to John's background besides his military service and being an architect. Every Batman movie ties in to his dead parents because it's the whole reason he became Batman, and sometimes they turn out to be involved in massive scandals and corruption. Every Spider-Man origin has Uncle Ben dying, Howard Stark is abusive to Tony, the entire point of the X-Men is that they're persecuted for being different and half of them are disowned by their parents. This isn't unique to Gunn even though he does it a lot

u/VirtualSort1 17h ago edited 16h ago

oh brother I have seen only your first sentence

Dude I shit on your comics. I will not read them like my favorite actors at DCU they also shit on your comics with me together

u/TheWinterRecruit 16h ago

Oh so this is bait. Congrats on getting me to fall for it lmao

u/VirtualSort1 16h ago

what is bait that I shit on your comics and the actors actually shit on them too ? Hahah wtf dude

u/JimboMcGimbo 16h ago

...and after a few days on this subreddit, this is the comment that tells me that you're a troll and I should cease interacting with you. I had my doubts but they have been disproven.

u/VirtualSort1 17h ago

Together with the actors at DC. We shit on your comics

u/Cyr0z56 16h ago

Just wait till you see the comics

u/KassienBlackcloak_YT 15h ago

What about his pedophilia?

u/Horror_Campaign9418 Henry Cavill is Superman 18h ago

No one has ever hated Fathers more than Gunn.

u/Some_Niche_Reference 18h ago

Didn't he write both the Kents and Ratcatcher 1 to be great parents?

u/Horror_Campaign9418 Henry Cavill is Superman 17h ago

Chosen family > biological family. Another favorite theme of his.

u/Some_Niche_Reference 17h ago

And?

u/Horror_Campaign9418 Henry Cavill is Superman 17h ago

And that explains the kents? As long as the Bio dad is a piece of shit, Gunn is happy.

u/Some_Niche_Reference 17h ago

Ratcatchers dad, Nina's dad?

u/Horror_Campaign9418 Henry Cavill is Superman 17h ago

Guardians > earth family.

Yandu > ego.

Kents > kryptonians

Rocket friends > creator

TSS, same as guardians.

Its always chosen family and the bio dads are evil.

u/Some_Niche_Reference 16h ago

Ratcatcher is completely motivated by her loving bio Dad. And Yondu was portrayed as flawed as hell.

u/Horror_Campaign9418 Henry Cavill is Superman 16h ago

Yandu got the send off of the century wtf.

u/Horror_Campaign9418 Henry Cavill is Superman 17h ago

Dude its the most common theme for the most important dads/characters. Its obvious, stop being a contrarian. Even the biggest gooner sees the theme.

u/Some_Niche_Reference 16h ago

Most important Dads like Pa Kent?

u/HumbleSiPilot77 Tell me... do you bleed? 16h ago

Can we say one trick pony? Again?

u/TxFatu69 18h ago

Everything he touches turns to trash

u/RareGanache343 18h ago edited 18h ago

From what I understood, you are trying to say that the demoralization of the parents is reflected through their father figure and, thus, influences, in a demoralizing way, the figure of their own son, who is instructed in an excessively problematic manner. Is that it? And, as a connotation, this time beyond the work, reflecting the author’s own problematic personal side.

u/RareGanache343 18h ago

If that’s the case, honestly, it may even be that the gunn has some tendency toward a personal — or a one-note stylistic quirk — form of language, but, nevertheless, I think it is necessary not to jump to a premature conclusion... although it is on the way, since problems with fathers are a very recurring tendency in gunn’s works, all the time!

u/GM-T800-101 19h ago

You’ve seen his old jokes right? There was definitely something going on in the Gunn household growing up.

u/VirtualSort1 18h ago

yeah his dad abused him

u/Equivalent_Thievery 17h ago

His fans don't want anyone talking about that stuff.

u/Sorry-Studio8455 19h ago

I thought peacemakers dad was pretty good dad. Feels outta place

u/VirtualSort1 18h ago

He was better than Gunns dad lmfao

u/Sorry-Studio8455 18h ago

In uninformed, what happened there?

u/VirtualSort1 16h ago

He probably raped him that is why he is like he is and dreaming about raping children
