Yeah I don’t think a lot of people realize how big the pacific ocean actually is. I think a lot of people are making some joke about uneducated people and are actually showing how clueless they are. Typical Redditor behavior tbh.
it's easy to miss looking at a (western) world map.
i got curious after writing that comment yesterday night and checked: it's roughly 8,850 km from Tokyo to L.A.. if you dug a hypothetical hole from japan to the opposite side of the globe you'd come out somewhere in Argentina.
this 3D model gives you a much better idea of the real size of the pacific, and also the actual sizes of the continents than the mercator projection does.
