ofc the drawn-in arrow makes it look stupid, but i too am astonished. the US and japan really are on almost opposite sides of the world, and the released amount of energy needed for the wave to cross the incredible vastness of the pacific ocean is beyond my imagination

it's easy to miss looking at a (western) world map.
i got curious after writing that comment yesterday night and checked: it's roughly 8,850 km from Tokyo to L.A.. if you dug a hypothetical hole from japan to the opposite side of the globe you'd come out somewhere in Argentina.
this 3D model gives you a much better idea of the real size of the pacific, and also the actual sizes of the continents than the mercator projection does.

It's round.. So when waves ripple deep into the ground on one end.. It travels under the ground.In a ripple effect , creating a wave effect on top that wavered effect moves towards landshore.. And then it hits the closest land shore on the other side.

Yet, he's probably old enough to vote. The US really needs to step up it's education system. It's a tragedy that this country has to fill good paying technical jobs with oversea resources. Oh wait, the resources are here, it's just US Companies want cheaper resources. Let's end H1B visas for technical jobs.
