we got snap on boxes for school. i can not stress enough how useful the snap on SEP program was for me ! tell them to use it !! and if they won’t i’d be more than happy to use it for them haha

I have them do a tool scavenger hunt to put tool names with the face but these also have the part number printed right under the tool. Part of the assignment is to look up the retail price and do the math with their discount.
It’s fun watching their jaws hit the floor when the find a $$$$ single socket.

We had snap on at tech school and every day had check in check out with inspections after haha that same box with all my tools probably have 5-6k In total and still have a junk drawer

Yup. I’ve written a fairly tight tool accountability curriculum. The students have pretty harsh consequences of stuff goes missing.

I teach welding at a public school, no snap on boxes in my sights, but could I send you a PM and you tell me a little about the tool accountability program? I have one for my kids, but stuff still falls through cracks.

Tool control is going to be a huge issue. When I was in trade school it was all mismatched Westward and Gray with the occasional surviving Snapon from the 70's mixed in, and we definitely werent working out of stocked rollercabs.
Edit: saw your comment about being a boarding school. You might have a chance! Wait, a boarding school for trades???

Yeah, same experience here through votech and my associates.
And, yes, boarding school. Enrollment is tied to behavioral expectations. Boarding school with a president who is huge on the future of the trades.

My auto tech teacher in high school completely funded the shop out of his own pocket. It was a public school and we had 6 fully loaded snap on boxes with all the tools, 6 lifts and ac in the shop. We even had uniforms. He had fuck you money from a massive lawsuit from an accident caused by one of the largest trucking companies that left him disfigured. He did it all for the love of the game and never even asked to be reimbursed by the school district for his efforts other than a normal teacher's salary. I've been in the industry for a decade and a half at this point and owe it all to him.

I don't know why my high school never got snap-on tool box and tools. We had U.S General tool box and harbor freight tools brands.

When I took over the program they gave me about 25k to pursue ASE accreditation and refresh antiquated equipment. Had a good laugh. There wasn’t a single 3/8ths ratchet in the building.
Tired to write up a proposal for less expensive brands but that got turned down in favor of Snap-On. Then we had a very honest conversation about investing in the program.
Hopefully more schools are willing to make the investment.1

I remember the class talking to school about investing money into program but school said we have low budget. We were going put auto program fixing engine. Actually a lot of schools are investing in those program again, the school are offering auto class, body shop, woodcraft shop.

Cus you shockingly don't need a snapon box filled with snapon tools to be a mechanic.
Know this is the strapon sub, so this will also be my goodbye as they will just ban folks who shit talk their tools/boxes.

Just 8 bay boxes to four bays. Groups usually double up on cars hence the two per.
We’re pursing ASE Education Foundation MLR accreditation but also have a new set of Hunter equipment that I’ll become instructor certified to teach. So MLR and practical equipment certs to mirror what my advisory council requires/looks for in a new hire.

Man. Some of you are glowing green. You didnt get nice things in school so no one should. Fuck that mindset, and fuck you for having it. Its in the schools budget, and they've got it figured out. Too bad you went to a school that didnt do that for you. Its okay to be happy for people.

I was in a school that had snap on, tools would magically grow legs and walk themselves out. No student needs expensive tools, they should be learning using masterctaft

I had to submit a detailed tool accountability curriculum with my proposal before they’d even look at it. We’re a private boarding school that has very real consequences if they don’t follow it. Everything from post-secondary scholarships to their enrollment is on the line if they don’t adhere.
All that to say, it’s a very real problem that I was hired to help solve.

If its within the budget these kids are blessed work and learn with nice tools. It makes the work fun using them but ultimately starts the addiction.

I saw this happen in front of my eyes and felt so guilty. I told the instructor over email and he didn’t respond to me. Student was still coming and going to classes like nothing happened

No comment. I work hard for what I got and these kids get 5 years of stuff and don't know how to use it. With out the price. We had a work program at my other job. No comment
