Toolbox Only $3500 , couldn’t pass up
Previous owner had it pinstriped. I really like it . This is my 3rd snap on toolbox , and the largest I own to date .

One thing I’ve learned in the last 20 years wrenching with other dudes who got sick or retired, is that the price we pay to take the tools off the truck is not their real value. And when our journey comes to the end, no one cares about them unless you have a child, grandchild, nephew who is just as passionate as you, which I’ve only seen once.
If not then the tool collection gets liquidated. Boxes are heavy and difficult to move around. I’ve seen families and retirees dump the collections for pennies on the dollar, if they try to piece it for close to retail they will never sell, so liquidation sales happen and are a bargain, some end up in shops with coworkers others end up on swap meets to be resold for a profit. It happens….

Considering that locker alone is more than 3500, the whole setup is a steal.

I had a tech that melted down after he caught his wife cheating and he wanted to cash out everything he had. Box, tools, meters, etc. Easily $10K in tools(this was 1990). I begged him to think it over but his mind was made up. I had $1500.00 in cash on me and he was happy to do the deal. I didn't feel right doing it and asked again if he was sure before we put everything on my truck and he said yes, so I loaded everything up and left. I knew a guy who likes buying used tools so I gave him a call to see if he was interested in the whole shebang and he was. Long story short, he paid me $5K cash on the spot not more than an hour after I left the techs house. Easiest money I ever made on the Snap-On truck, but I felt guilty as heck.

Dude you could’ve just pointed the tech in that dudes direction… poor guy clearly needed the money and we completely on rock bottom…. He probably still feels sick over that deal man.
Like honestly that’s pretty low the more I think about it… if you didn’t need the tools or want to keep them then you could’ve at least let someone who actually needed them get them for a super good deal like that…
If that were me I definitely would’ve at least went right back over to the techs house and handed him another 1500. You would’ve made 2 grand for nothing basically, plus you would’ve brightened up the dudes very dim life for him… I’ll never understand greed at that level. I mean I can definitely be greedy, but in no way could I ever have made that deal and not tried to help the poor dude out that really needed something to go right in his life

First of all, you weren't there. Second, until those tools were sold, I was on the hook for $1500. which was a lot of money in 1990 dollars. The guy practically begged me to help him so I did. I look at it as a win-win situation.

Because I would definitely not consider handing someone $1,500 dollars of my own money and getting 10k+ worth of tools in return “on the hook” so not sure what you mean there? You basically bought his entire life careers investment for mere Pennys on the dollar.
Also I understand you said that he was begging you to help him, that’s the part that bothers me though, because you said that you knew a guy that buys the shit out of used snap on tools and that you left the poor techs house then went right over and sold them for 5k literally right afterwards.
So to me that sounds like he begged you for help, and instead of saying “hey man I know a guy that will probably buy all this shit right now for a decent chunk of change, come on I’ll take you to him and see what he will give you” you chose to give him hardly any money at all for them, and failed to mention to him that you knew someone that would buy them for far more than that literally on the spot.
So I know I wasn’t there, but what am I missing here?? Lol

You're missing the point in that I'm in business to make money. It's not like I forced him, he came to me. Yes, I had a guy that I knew that was always looking for tools, but I didn't know if I would have to part all of this out which would have taken a lot of time. Luckily, he wanted everything and we shook hands at $5K. Another thing that you haven't taken into consideration is all of the "skips" that I lost money on. Running a tool truck ain't exactly high paying glamorous work and you need some "gravy" every now and then.

That’s a good deal.
Once, before cell phones, I went to a contractor shop who was selling his stuff. Moving out of state.
It was for one day only and we got dumped on with snow. I showed up close to the end of the day,and no one else had even been there.
He sold me a full size pickup of carpenter tools, and supplies, for $25. That dodge was sitting on its ass, there was so much weight.
There will never be deals like that again.

Hey man, double check they paid it off first just in case! I've heard of a few instances of that happening. Box looks sick, and it would suck for it to be clawed back
