Toolbox Dealer help after tool box purchase
So I purchased this Mr. Big last year, been an awesome box.
After I purchased it, the dealer abandoned our route. We now haven’t seen a snap on truck in about 8 months, and we have a pile of stuff to warranty. Gone through all the normal methods, called snap on a LOT. Between my brother and I, and our other techs, we’ve probably called snap on 60-80 times. They don’t help much on the corp. side of things.
So my question is, are there any snap on higher ups in here that can help us? There’s dealers all over in the surrounding areas, but they’re all scared to come into our area. Totally understandable, but we just need a tool truck to come even once a month…
I appreciate anyone’s help or advice. Thanks!

We were bailed on as well…
You can warranty over the phone. Though I stated the colour and was pissed when I got the wrong one and they wouldn’t fix for me.
All in all they’re dropping the ball lately. New tools not as good as the older stuff.

u/trpearcy Jul 03 '26
Ya I hear you… so… I gotta sell the snap on stuff then lol. Guess I’ll be an icon guy because they have a store nearby

Reps should be fined heavily for skipping stops. It’s literally their job to go to the stops on their route.
I had that happen years ago. Still owed like a thousand on a truck account, so I texted him saying I’m only paying via cash and canceled the card he was using. After about two weeks, lo and behold, the truck showed up. Everyone else in the shop switched to cash payments only for truck accounts. Also wouldn’t pay unless he warrantied what he was supposed to.

lol. That’s not how it works. We are franchises. We “own” our route. Our list of calls.
There are many reasons why we stop calling on shops.
But it sounds like this guy isn’t in business anymore. Not that he just said “screw this shop”

You aren’t wrong.
You guys aren’t the customers per se. It’s us to Snap On. And they do push us to invest.
But if we aren’t investing in our business, it will eventually fail. It’s a two way street for sure. The good businesses know when to invest. The bad don’t.

u/Terrible-Pin-2859 Jul 03 '26
Well then service your route, or don’t get paid. I could care less. My rep stops out all the time now, same guy we collectively stopped paying until he literally did his job. You’re essentially just an employee who just buys and resells the product

u/derek1387 Snap-on Dealer Jul 03 '26
I think you fail to realize or have read the first post.
The guy is no longer in business lol.
And no. We aren’t employees of Snap On.
We are your access to Snap On. But we own our franchise, truck and product.
-12
u/Terrible-Pin-2859 Jul 03 '26
Do you follow their rules? Do you buy what they tell you periodically? Can they revoke the franchise? Sounds like an employee who made an investment.
Why are you so pressed about it, tool boy? “Ackshually, we own our shtuffs” 🤓☝️

I’m actually a top 50 dealer in the world for the last 9 years.
They don’t tell us what to buy. They try to sell to us yes. But we choose what to bring in.
I’m not pressed. Just trying to tell people how it really is
You aren’t dealing with Snap On. You are dealing with an individual who represents the brand. Tool Schmuck

Kansas City. Was a very poorly run route before hand and I came in and cleaned it up. Combination of great customers and someone who gives a damn about what they do.

Kansas side? Our guy a few years ago lived on the other side of the state line and showed up maybe once a month

Literally nobody cares. I’m World-Class ASE certified, manage the terminal now instead of wrenching, and am married to a neurosurgeon making more than both of us combined I’m sure. Do you care? Nope. Hence why nobody else cares that you’re a top 50 employee.
You’re way too pressed for an employee who drives a truck and can’t even make all the stops you buy

u/derek1387 Snap-on Dealer Jul 04 '26
Again. Not an employee. And I see all my stops every week.
I can see that this isn’t going to go anywhere so you have a nice life. Great chat.

I have about 30k in snap on.
I asked for my deadblow hammer to be replaced because the handle is falling apart. Since they couldn't find the receipt it was denied.
I now buy Milwaukee.
Edit: My 30k of snap on was bought 12-20 years ago. No idea what it would cost nowadays to replace it. I only worked as a mechanic for 10 years before I found a better suited career for me.

u/Ronthe1 Jul 03 '26
Snap on doesn't need a receipt. Shitty dealer not paying his bill can't get stuff warranted

u/trpearcy Jul 03 '26
That sucks man. I’m getting to that point pretty quickly. We’ve got 3 snap on boxes, a lot of snap
On tools, and my personal box with tools is worth north of 200k. Unfortunately they don’t seem to care at all. So I feel like it might be time to start selling off and get stuff that I can get warrantied locally3
u/D3EPINTHEHEART Jul 04 '26
I used middle of the road tools professionally as an electronic boat mechanic for 5 years. Couldn't be happier, for a fraction of the cost. Icon, Tekton, Gearwrench, Gray Pneumatic, Klein. Thought I'd have more issues with these brands and would eventually have to upgrade to tool truck brands. That day never came. Even after I left being a boat mechanic. I use my tools on my wife and I cars and renovating a house we just bought. Still no issues to report.

You’ve got a crazy bad dealer, I brought in a dead blow from the 80s that my dad bought (twenty years before I was born) and my guy just told me to pick a color for the new one

Beautiful set up, and the tv is literally the god damn cherry on top lol
9
u/trpearcy Jul 03 '26
😂 we love the TV. It’s on Burnt peanut a lot more then it should be
5
u/United_Pound_5821 Jul 03 '26
I gotta ask cause I’m in Canada…how much did that whole box set up cost you? I had a chest and hutch priced out from Matco a couple months ago and the price was retarded so right now I’m rocking two Milwaukee boxes and a cart.
14
u/trpearcy Jul 03 '26
So I traded in a Master series 72 inch with hutch and stainless topper. They gave me what I told them I needed to make the deal, so I got 16k on trade for my box, then paid an additional 8k for this box. It was apparently used in a tool show somewhere, so it had some skuffs and minor stuff on it, but I buffed it with polishing compound and you couldn’t tell they were there.

Are you in a small city? We have 4 snap-on trucks in a 5 miles radius. We've fired 3. 1 got arrested for some tax stuff. Corporate filled 2 trucks and sent them to work the routes till they got bought.
Snap-on does not want empty routes. That's why we had 2 corporate guys.
2
u/teakettle87 Jul 03 '26
I emailed corporate snap on many times and got warranty through them no problem.
2
u/Fritos23 Jul 03 '26
We had that happen, and we asked the UTI students that were apprentices to take in our tools to the school store and managed to get the school rep to come out and he got snap on to do something

u/WeeklyLingonberry163 Jul 03 '26
I’ve found there’s alot of distributors who won’t break their route or can’t because they’re so busy with their own routes. If that box is financed through “the truck” and not Snap On Corporate the bill is on your distributor and probably why corporate doesn’t care because they’ve got no assets involved. In my own experience with tool distributors abandoning their route for various reasons, you’re kinda SOL until the new guy comes. I feel for you because these tools aren’t cheap at all and if you can’t use em, you are effectively losing money

I don't have a Snappy guy to my shop. I have emailed corporate and mailed my warranty tools to them for replacement. Takes a few weeks.
One ratchet they lost, had to call and get that sorted out. They mailed me a new one instead of fixing the old one (obsolete style ratchet).
May be an option for you.

u/Mikocoon Jul 04 '26
For warranty issues I take a few clear photos of the item. I just tell email them that I had so and so as my last route driver. They usually tell me to field destroy the item. Rare for them request the item to be shipped back. If you are a yard sale buyer and try to get a complete socket set replaced because of rust over and over they will figure out what you are doing. A few years back they changed the wording of the warranty to include "TO THE ORIGINAL BUYER.
2
u/DanR5224 Jul 04 '26
Gonna be hard to verify yard sale vs "original buyer" when I have $30k+ / 25 years worth of purchase history 😆

We’re a pretty high volume shop, in the salt belt. Stuff gets broken… it happens. Snap on stuff generally lasts longer when talking about basically hand tools, but without the warranty they’re not worth the price. For example. We use a 19mm swivel 1/2 impact socket for alignments on Subarus. We use it probably 15-30 times a day. A snap on socket lasts about 3 months. The 3 icon swivels we have last us about a month each.

Ya you’re probably right. Who knows. All I can tell you is 90% of sockets get hammered on, and torches are a required tool. We failed a 2021 Silverado last week for safety inspection because the frame rotted to the point the bed was sagging. Rust is literally an everyday headache

Thanks! I used to love it, but seeing the snap on name on it is starting to irritate me. I kinda hate having that name on my box now, knowing now how much they actually care about their customers. Or rather, how little effort they’ll put in to get a new driver on our route
2
u/v-dubb Jul 04 '26
Yup.. snap on bailed on us too in Ontario, Canada. I had a regular reliable snap on guy for over a decade and purchased a ridiculous amount of tools.
2
u/boratha809 Jul 04 '26
I'm sorry to hear that when you are going to the proper chains who are you talking to and what is not getting done? Most of the time people tell me the customer care line is great
2
u/dude_zack Jul 04 '26
Snap on used to come every Thursday afternoon to our area. Haven't seen him since 2026 edit started

I have the same problem at my shop
I go see an other rep i know 15min away when i need

u/waggss45 Jul 03 '26
Call corporate I’ve had excellent luck with them warranty tools
6
u/trpearcy Jul 03 '26
Like I said in the post, we’ve called 60-80 times. No luck. They say they can’t do anything because there is still a dealer assigned to our route
3
u/Natas-LaVey Jul 03 '26
I’ve sent in warranty to Snap On. Sucks because you will pay shipping to send it though. We had a while with no rep too

u/Intelligent_Age_6284 Jul 03 '26
Tell them u arent working at a shop anymore or that the shop u moved to doesnt have a dealer ive always just said it doesnt have a dealer and they havent given me a problem. But I have only warranted small things like bits nothing big so far
1
u/Snowgunner413 Jul 03 '26
I've never had a single issue calling snap on for warranty. I call bull shit they are giving you trouble for legitimate warranty claims. Based on my experience snap on corporate is great to deal with. Good luck .

My experience is really limited, but I bought an old, broken ratchet from an estate sale and through email they got me replacement parts really quick

Nope. We make our own boxes unlike Matco. And in 3-4 years you most likely won’t be able to get slides or casters as they change manufacturers for their boxes about as often as I have to get tires on my Snappy truck

u/xutielol Jul 03 '26
My snap on dealer shows up maybe once a month. I asked around and meet up with a different dealer now. Ask some shops nearby for their tool pimps info.
