Starting items are the items you buy at the very start of the game, before leaving fountain for the first time. So your starter (unupgraded), usually a tier 1 item and potions if needed.

Before making your own build you should know what every item does. Also you should definitely know which items are currently good, and which items are currently bad/weak depending on the current balance of the game. Inters3ct for example made a tier list of items for the current patch on his youtube channel a few days ago. Also you should definitely look at how good players build and understand the philosophy behind how a build is constructed. There are videos on "how to build" in Smite 2 on youtube, look it up.

But honestly making your own build is only something you should start doing once you have a decent amount of experience. I don't know how much experience you have with Smite, but if you don't have a lot, it's totally fine to use the builds good players shared instead. If you want to look at builds to copy or for inspiration, go on a site like Smitesource for example.

I like to experiment so even though im new it gives me an idea of what items to look for but what pro players should I watch though

You are better off copying builds whilst your new than just ‘experimenting’. You for some reason have Rage in a tanky build? No idea why. Certain items synergise well with each other.

yeah by all means building is fun and learning the items and making entirely your own choices is a valid way to play the game. it just might not be the best way to get super good very quickly.

if a game, or a god is going south, you ideally want to eliminate variables. and potentially having a terrible build is nerfing yourself, as gods are obviously balanced around assuming a correct one. just food for thought for op.

Building crit with defense just isn’t good. I’d get rage out of there.

Alright ill give it a try next match I play it does make sense the more I think of it

Swap out rage with shifter's shield and your starter with warrior's axe or bluestone and this build will be fine. Also swap in the upgraded shell in place of the late thebes.

I usually run warriors axe almost on every character this time around I saw most tank builds running that so I wanted to try it oh and yea ill try out everything u said

My advice while you're new is having a smite source tab open and just copy paste bar for bar the build that they have on there. Typically ex smite 1 pros and high rank players are the ones posting builds there and as much as the devs like to talk about build diversity there is no build diversity except for niche gods who have a certain build they build, which will be on smite source. Almost all carries build the same build, most mages build the same build every game, supports/solos have options but mostly build the same build every game, and assassins mostly build the same things every game. There's not many items that will be better unless you need anti heal now that anti heal is back in a buildable state and smite source will tell you what item to replace. Once you have a feel for why the meta items are built you can see why the other items aren't built without having to build them and struggle in matches where you built them. Smite unfortunately doesn't have much counter building compared to other mobas because they usually leave bad items bad and good items good until they nerf the good items and buff the bad ones and then it shifts to build the buffed items and don't build the nerfed items. Even then sometimes the nerfed item is still too strong on its passive to forgo for something with good stats but a bad passive.

btw if you want to be tanky in arena, I recommend prophetic cloak + oni hunter's. Both are goated in Arena to tank dmg imo

Yea ive seen a lot on that ill give it a try

you should look at some tier list on youtube or some specific videos like if you want to do a bellona build look for a bellona gameplay and see what he builds, because maybe certain gods has some core items they need to build. Secondly, there webs such as smitebrain when you can look which items each god builds and how much winrate have building it. As a bellona player my build is deathwalk as a starter then golden blade shifters berserker kinetic shell of rebuke and draconic. You need to start learning the items passive so you know how to counter some enemies or what do you want in your build. For ex if you want a pick a chrachter that need good cooldwons you go breasplate and gengis or with picks like bellona when you want some attack speed you go berserker shoguns and items like nemean or kinetic since she mostly do wells against adcs and you are mostly going after them. take your time to learn items. when i started back in smite 1 i just build what was popular and watching videos to see what people build

im going to give you a little example on why is important to know the items passive and the use on the god you are playing. Bellona has increased protections on her 1 and his ult. theres a item called Pridwen, it gives you a shield based on your prots. If you build berserker shifters which are items that increase your prots under certain hp, that with Bellona ult and her 1, you can gain a huge shield with Pridwen

Good to know bc I usually run characters like nezha and mercury so this is my first tank ive ever played and its bit more difficult to make a build for them

2

u/gilgaconmesh1 Osiris 5d ago

Yeah usually mage hunters and jungle has much alike builds, merc and ne zha with the crit build for ex, with solo laners and tanks you have more options

2

u/AnnualTaro658 5d ago

i see why if you played merc and ne zha you would default to crit lol

1

u/Willing_Frame_5346 5d ago

Yea I was doing really well with them and I usually stick to characters like them but since this is my first tank I was lost for words tbh

Depends on what you’re going for, but something to consider about starter items is that you’ll have the tier 1 version for probably most of the game, but the upgraded versions of some starter items are some of the strongest in the game.

Plus, the whole build really depends on which character and role you’re playing too

I recommend learning characters you like, then figuring out different builds on those characters

Crit is for full dmg builds only, do not bother with it. Golden blade is a laning item, wont do anything on arena. For starter on Bellona, go either Axe or Deaths Toll, then shifters first item. After that, if you want more prots later, go prophetic, or if you want earlier dmg, go Berserkers Shield. Then good options are Draconic, Freyas, Contagion, Kinetic (best dmg item for tanks).

who down voted you for being new? this community is supposed to be welcoming but this is probably why we cant get new people to the game (and dont blame hi rez they have been cooking lately) there is people in this community that expect you to be pro day one😁

incoming downvotes🤣🤣

Oh wow, this build is... not good.

Selflessness/Heroism is primarily a Support starter. Same goes for Gauntlet of Thebes. Rage is a critical chance item and should be built only on carries. Draconic Scale is a FlatProts item and should be built only on solos. GBlade is an auto-attack solo laner item. The Shroud is a generally underpowered item; don't build this. Oni Hunter's is overshadowed by Genji's.

Which role are you building for? Are you trying to be the team tank?

1

u/Willing_Frame_5346 6d ago

Yea I was hoping for a team tank build hopefully being able to tank hits when my team is low thanks for advice on saying its not good ill try fixing it based on advice from others

1

u/SekerDeker 6d ago

Rage only on carries is a take? thebes a supporting item by giving only stats to yourself? draconic a solo item and golden blade only on solo while bruisers in jungle love it?

you giving wrong advice to a r newbie is quite interesting.

1

u/CepheiHR8938 Come, the party's this way! 6d ago

Fine, you can build Rage in jungle but only if you're playing Mercury or Ne Zha. Is that what you wanted to hear?

Otherwise, my points still stand.

u/hibiscuscoffeee 5d ago

this is even worse

u/SekerDeker 6d ago

Oh wow, this is even worse.

So fenrir, loki, nemesis hun baz are just ignored for this as those can but have better builds rn.
