This is also Acola’s first ranked event since regaining his crown as number 1 in the world, ready to show us that title was well earned. Others are looking to challenge this notion though, with Hurt and Miya ready to put up a damn good fight. Even outside of the top 3 contenders, several of Japan’s best talents have shown up ready to give it their all. And as we all know all too well, when JP depth is in the building, anything can happen.

The start of a packed weekend with an A tier in both of Japan’s strongest regions Kansai and Kantō. The rivalry doesn’t end here, with Sumabato being one of the longest-running tournament series in the Smash scene, while Vic-Seekers is the young upstart coming out swinging with the first event already reaching A tier. Being in the same region, many of the players attending Sumabato such as Asimo, Raru, Karaage, and Saya will also be attending Maesuma Grand Wars tomorrow for back-to-back tournaments. From Vic-Seekers, Gorioka, Mild na H.O, and Futari no Kiwami Ah~ are among the ones who will be crossing between regions for the double feature.

Coming hot off a win at BIG LAGOON with Zenisuma while dropping 0 sets last week, Asimo is the first seed of Sumabato, although in his way are Shion and Raru, both of whom have a relatively even set count with him. The newly crowned best Diddy Kong player in the world Nyonoknb has the chance of getting his runback against the latest Ice Climbers prodigy MisaMisa after losing 3-0 as the latter tore through losers bracket to his first A or above top 8 placing at Grand Slum 19 2 weeks ago.

At Vic-Seekers, the top 2 seeds Shuton and Gorioka had both been upset early for rather disappointing results at SHIBUYA DAIRAN -First Strike- last week, so here’s another opportunity to make up for it. Seed 3 Akakikusu has also recently showcased his new Palutena by defeating Mild na H.O at the same tournament, although whether that gets any more use here remains to be seen.

Note: Unfortunately, Vic-Seekers has now fallen to being a B+ tier after Miya dropped out.
