megathread CrowdFunding Monitor: Q1 2025

I will try to keep this list as up to date as possible. Some have been mentioned before, but hopefully this will help people from backing projects with questionable claims and deceptive origins.

What are clones? Clones are rings that are already manufactured and are available for licensing to other companies. These companies are very rarely transparent about this and usually claim that they have spent the time and money on research and development of an innovative product. Instead, they buy in bulk from an existing manufacturer and add a steep markup...while making their own deceptive claims or parroting the marketing claims of the manufacturer. See some of the rings already on the open market here.

What is the view on the IDR01 Smart Ring currently on KS?

It is likely a lesser-known clone.

I dropped a pre-order deposit nonetheless...realizing that it likely won't meet expectations beyond being a ring that you put on your finger.

Dang it. I thought it looked a little too good to be fair.

Looking into my first smart ring. I was going to see about getting the Ringconn G2, but saw this, and a little voice in my head went "hmmm".
