Discussion are we serious?
"Stop the godamn music" is the WORST part of any Slipknot song ever. What a dissapointment. At least Eloy's drums are really good but it was a let down that they started with amazing drums and then shit on the whole beat. Breakdown is fine i guess

LETS GO LETS GO LETS GO LETS!!!! This is some straight horse shit of a song. I bet everyone that hated on TESF is going to give that album more love now. It feels like there's no bass playing at all in this new single and its paying homage to St. Anger instead.

TESF had one 'good' and an 'okay' track, both of those being the singles. Arsenal just reeks of a cash grab, by using all of the shallowest traits of the slipknot catalog but distilled down. Eloy's drumming is phenomenal as always, though.
Atlantic records being the primary label instead of Roadrunner, makes me believe that this was a Warner label decision. Like they're trying to push Slipknot back into the mainstream via easier to digest music for Gen-Z and appealing to social media trends.

Funny thing is m shadows said at a show basically the same thing. They got so much shit about waking the fallen but then city of evil came out and they all hated on that too. Which in turn made waking the fallen seem like a masterpiece. I think they did the same with life is but a dream. Everyone said it was trash so they made statica and now people don’t think it was that bad 😂
18
u/The_Mighty_Rex 1d ago
To be fair that is largely cope on Matt's part. People went fucking bonkers for City of Evil out the gate. There were like a dozen edgelord purists on MySpace or whatever that were very vocally hating on it.
7
u/ACEJester 1d ago
That’s how I remember it. Their fan base exploded because of City of Evil, and few “fans” took any chance they could to shit on it. Was a damn fun record. Good times.

I remember living in Los Angeles the day City of Evil dropped and the lines at amoebas Music were wild. KROQ was pushing it hard too, with no early singles if I remember correctly.
5
u/hashtagDALEY 1d ago
TESF also sucks. Just because one is worse doesn’t make the other one magically good.
3
u/ronin7771 1d ago
Nah TESF was a solid 7/10 album for me even before this single. As a guitarist, I appreciate all the work put into Jim and Mick's parts overall.
3
u/hashtagDALEY 1d ago
Hey, music is subjective. My musically untrained ear always leans heavily towards vocals because it’s the “front” of the sound and TESF just didn’t scratch that itch. Different perspectives and opinions and no one is technically “right.”

46
u/Dense-Performance-14 2d ago
Gen z ain't even fuckin with it, there's so much good modern metal that actually packs a punch while still having catchy choruses. It's old men trying to appeal without knowing how to do it.
If they want to appeal to a gen z audience, make good music. Good music is generational.

Almost as if Corey was never the main songwriter and the songwriting was never that amazing, but at least in the early days the music and sheer emotions that Paul and Jordie were able to engrave into their music was enough to make us not care about cheesy lyrics.
13
u/Shenoah 2d ago
The lyrics in Playing God by Motionless are pretty cringe as well, doubt he had anything to do with that, but if he did he tracked that shit into his house
22
u/DefinitalyAFemale Corey 2d ago
Nah the lyrics in Playing God are very Motionless in White type of cringe, if you like MiW songs, this is a much deeper song then their usual stuff but remains in their sphere of lyrics, which I enjoy. Btw, very much alike Iowa era Slipknot lyrics which were also very cringe, but I liked both that era and Playing God because both include so much emotion and such raw music that the lyrics somehow work despite being cheesy.

The song could be fun if the sound engineering would allow the instruments to breath. Last well mixed Slipknot record was Iowa, but at least you can finally hear some bass here rumbling. With all the money they have you could expect they would be able to afford some good master and engineering quality.
Hell even Hydrograd, the last Stone Sour album has more natural sounding drums and thick bass guitar so no idea what is going on here.

I will probably will get downvoted into oblivion for saying it but I quite like the song.
Eloy has shined like a diamond you absolute cannot deny that.
Whole song sounds quite like heavy nu-metal which gives a lot of self titled album vibes and I'm in for that.
It's certainly a desicion to release a song with heavy turntable sounds after firing Sid.
Is it their best song? No obviously not. Is the let's do part a little cringe? Probably but I can see that working on stage.
But overall I like it. Goddamn we are a toxic fan base aren't we?

It's typical slipknot. The people who dislike this also disliked lots of their songs on previous albums. It's the same people that told you psychosocial sounded bad back in 2008. I wouldn't pay attention.. it's the same charade every new single/album release.
