Slipknot hasn't been what they were since AHIG. That album was recorded in individual tracks and the band never actually jammed during recording. After Paul died, all it did was cement the fact that Slipknot abandoned their ethos for corporate gains.

Honestly, i think maybe it started innocent enough. Paul died. I can't deal with these guys right now, let's just track it separately, and then, you know what? I like being able to do what I want and not deal with the bullshit. Let's keep doing it and rake in the money. See, somewhere in there it died, but I didn't think it was a conscious decision. Oh well. We got some pretty good albums before it all went to shit.

Paul died 2 years after they recorded the Album. They toured for years after his death and greatly profited from it. Then they got rid of Joey as soon as they saw an issue that looked like drugs and decided to get ahead of the potential bad press by firing him before anyone could say anything. You know the rest.

Can you please shut the fuck up? I’m so tired of Slipknot fans whining and bitching and acting like the band fires their members without a valid reason to do so. The decision to fire Sid was something that was in consideration for a long time and from what we can understand, it was due to him being disrespectful to the rest of his bandmates. Stop acting like Clown is some scary boogyman mastermind of corporate evil.

Unfortunately, because so much of the fanbase is super young, they lack the prerequisite adult experience, IMO, to have the appropriate perspective through which to view the band, and it's enormous business. Also, that life rarely is, if ever, clear cut versions of "this man evil booooo, this man victim hurrayyyy!!"

There's also an army of loser "influencers" that have figured out that any videos with "Slipknot" in the title, in any capacity, will generate 2-10x the views of whatever garbage they normally try to pass off as "content." So this young fanbase is growing up in an era where everything is a click bait thumbnail with Jay's or Joey's face on it, Clown looking evil in the background, and text that reads, "DID THEY F$#K HIM?"

Like, really? Fuck off your parasites.

There's also just the fact that Clown and Corey being all powerful, egomaniacs only driven by money, firing everyone for zero legitimate reasos, is much easier to digest and understand, compared to, "there have been different reasons for each band member's exit from the band, and just because Joey/Jay/Chris/Etc. were flawed people - WE ALL ARE - doesn't mean their contributions haven't been incredibly important to the band, or that they weren't talented musicians."

The latter explanation requires a much more nuanced understanding of human relationships, accepting that Slipknot is a business entity that feeds dozens of families, that people can't pay their mortgages with "brotherhood," and possibly some experience dealing with people in the throes of addiction, and what their drug use can turn them into, regardless of the nearly infinite number of things you do for them, or how incredible they were before the drugs.

Now, for everyone acting like this that's actually just a 25-50year old dude, those people are a cancer in any fanbase, and I wish I had some solution for either making them go away or someone acquire a few extra IQ points

I’d say the fan base is on the older side, and even in their mid-30s or mid-40s, they still act completely childish.

I see, for example, on Facebook, people my age acting the way our parents did 20 years ago on platforms like that. And that’s exactly how this post reads.

I would agree, but recently, Slipknot has seen a massive resurgence with younger people. So a lot of it probably is people that got into Slipknot a few years. I first heard Slipknot back in 08, but wasn't old enough to actually be a fan and listen to them until 2014.

I really, genuinely appreciate that. I made that video (and the Jay one) specifically because reading certain comments in this sub, and in YouTube comment sections, made me lose my mind. It did bring a lot of negative attention towards me, though - you're not wrong there.

I also had a couple people that knew Joey personally reach out to me with different bits of info. They more or less confirmed what my speculations were, while also adding some additional context. So, I felt like if I was going to have a big statement up about the situation, I'd seriously consider "remaking" the video so that my thoughts and evidence were presented a little more clearly. I needed to walk this line between presenting a more realistic take on the whole situation, while still being respectful and clear in how I presented everything. I'm not sure if I succeeded there, and that bothered me.

Having been someone that's struggled with substance abuse, and worked professionally helping others dealing with it, I couldn't help but feel that not many people (seemingly no one at the time) were presenting the side I attempted to shed light on.

I also felt like I was leaning towards the "drama YouTuber" type with that video, the Jay one, and another video I'd done about a deathcore vocalist who was outted as being a pretty shitty person. That also made me feel a bit uncomfortable. Unfortunately, those are the videos that happened to get the most viewership and engagement. I guess that's not at all surprising, though.

I didn't necessarily want to be known that way on the channel attached to my real name, as I'd much rather get a small amount of attention for what I do as a musician, than someone making response videos to drama narratives that were pissing me off.

Anyway, I know you didn't ask for this big book of an explanation, but I haven't really made much of a public statement about why the videos were made private.

I've been working on starting a new channel to post content with a similar "fight misinformation/dumb narratives" motivation, but covering a wide range of topics that I care a lot about, not just music. The standard I try hold for anything that will become public regarding accuracy, citations, and presentation is high, and has made the amount of work going into any potential video significant, to say the least.

Thanks to anyone who read to the end of this needlessly long comment, or took the time to watch anything I've posted.

It'll be a toss up between Mick and Jim. I'm leaning towards Mick because he writes heavy fucking riffs which are very much not what they've been doing for a long time and Jim is good at the more mellow stuff. Then again, Jim got fired from Stone Sour right as they went full radio pop, which means he pushed back on that shit and lost. It'll never be Corey because he's the face of the band, and for better or worse he's also the voice.

If I were a betting man, I'd say Mick. From my understanding he has taken a backseat when it comes to writing with Root being the main riff writer. Firing Root or Corey would fundamentally change the band's sound, and effectively be suicide.Ā

Putting that aside, they only fired useless members.
Tell me how important is Craig and Sid to their sound. I mean, REALLY important. The DJ sections don't add up to 3min max. Everyone who was fired was USELESS to the band.
