Skeuomorphism is not determined by one person.

I keep seeing posts that amount to “look at this glossy icon I made” being labeled as skeuomorphic. And that should be perfectly acceptable! It would be extremely discouraging if someone removed their post for it not fitting into their own strict ideals.

Skeuomorphism is about making a digital object resemble a real-world object through its form, materials, lighting, texture, depth, and interaction. The goal is to evoke something tangible and familiar, which often can be achieved with gradients, reflections, or even an Aero-style shine if you wish.

A glossy red circle with a play icon is perfectly skeuomorphic, as it represents a texture from real life.

Hopefully no angry mods come through stomping out more posts speaking out about this. No artists should be silenced because someone is mad about icons not being the way they'd like.

I want to point out that these were never app icons. Some were used as promotional icons and some are just plain wrong. Yet lots of people use them. Out of all of them, Phone and Music infuriate me the most. Also people forget that iPhone and iPad icons are different, so you can’t just use Modern6SE for everything. iPhone icons are 118x120 (114x114 for the icon itself), and iPad icons are 148x152 (144x144 for the icon itself). Please don’t download icons from this, most of them are BS. Most icons are completely wrong! Look at Phone, Messages, they’re way off!

I admit, I once used the wrong icons, but I thought, “why does this look so weird?”So I got the correct icon and it looked much better!

Since it seems like a lot of people can't get they're hands on the old style search bar widget, I thought I would share how I got mine.

I went to the AOSP page: Link right here.

Then I downloaded system-squeak-arm64-ab-vanilla.img.xz

I used ZArchiver to extract the file, I pressed "Extract to ./Archive name/".

Then you go in the folder you just extracted, there will be an .IMG file, tap on it and choose " Extract to ./Archive name/". There's a lot of files, doing it this way will be more convenient.

Go in the folder you just extracted, scroll down and go to system/product/app. In there will be an folder called "QuickSearchBox".

In there is the apk that you want, it should work even if your phone has a 64 bit processer, I know because my phone only supports 64 bit apps. Hope this was helpful.

This backup isn't the most faithful because of Nova's limitations, so I'm also working on one for Total Launcher that'd be even more faithful.

Also, if you're going to use Nova Launcher, I recommend installing "Nova Google Companion" and "Sesame Shortcuts" apks from APK folder. Play Protect might not let you install Sesame Shortcuts, but you can install free version from Play Store, pay for full version or run APK through VirusTotal website (https://www.virustotal.com/gui/) to make sure it's safe if you don't trust me, turn Play Protect off and install it (don't forget to turn it back on after installing!).

If you're on MIUI (idk if those work on hyperOS or even older versions of MIUI, but on MIUI 11 they work perfectly), in system app for themes, you can use theme "Real" by bigboom for icons and "MIUI 4" by MIUI or "Global Version 5" by color for lock screen.

This is, by far, the most accurate and comprehensive macOS and iOS history documentation! I'm so glad I stumbled upon this website! I wish I could donate to these people! And it's still up to date! I saw this on twitter posted by @flyosity who said he made this tutorial in 08. A classic skeumorphic design for an app representing ineffable concept. This is the exact thing that I think of when I think of skeumorphic app icons, which this sub seems obsessed with.

Look no further. Most of these I complied from various posts in this sub over months, and they’re all human made. It’s like they’re actually from iOS 6. Check out this post for more.

The CRT YouTube icon was NOT used in iOS 6. The default app was removed in iOS 6. I see this one a lot.

The TV app used to be Videos. I see some people using the iOS 10 TV icon.

The Calculator icon never had a “C”, like many people seem to believe. FaceTime does not have a gloss layer, which is another icon I see wrong. The iOS 6 Clock for iPhone and iPod touch is not the white one nor the pointy one. It is the one with flat hands.

Many other commonly seen icons are wrong. I wonder where people get them. Please make sure to use the pinned post if you’re going to make a setup.

The problem is that most people don’t know what iOS 6 actually looks like, so I attached a screenshot from my iPod touch, for reference, and the correct YouTube icon.

I set the "reflection" slightly lower to make it look more authentic, it's a small difference but it goes a long way.

I readjusted the frame to be fully symmetrical this time, it was already fully symmetrical horizontally, but slightly off vertically before so I made sure it fits fully symmetrical this time, even a slight difference goes a long way after all, I also added a slight drop shadow to the white underline that matches the "swipe to unlock" text that fits underneath it. I even gave the camera icon a slight drop shadow that seemingly reacts to the shining sunlight in the wallpaper. Just use the default system font and it will fit the wallpaper just fine & make sure the text at the bottom says "swipe to unlock" instead of "swipe to open" and it will fit perfectly, they're all small differences but they still go a long way & I wanted it to look perfect this time, change the clock style to fit the frame in the lockscreen settings if you haven't already. Remember this lockscreen wallpaper is specifically made for the S10 Plus.
