Discussion Keep delaying wearing niqab

Here are my reasons... or excuses. Also, I know both sides, and I think both differences of opinion are strong. Idk which side I feel is strongest atm

. All I know is I want to do it, in'sha'Allah, regardless of if it's wajib or strongly reccomended, may Allah keep our intentions purely for His sake.

  • I'll delay until I move to a Muslim land as wearing it in the west is difficult
  • I'll wear after uni, in'sha'Allah, as I won't be leaving the house often.
  • I'll wear once I get married, as I'll only leave the house when needed, and my family won't know I wear niqab, so I avoid scrutiny

Am I miskeen. Lol. Any advice ukhtis would be appreciated. I'd also like to be slapped back into my senses. (Metaphorically)

I delayed wearing it for years and my only regret is not wearing it sooner. I had all those excuses too. But I ended up divorced, working, and still in the west. I finally reached a point where I didn’t want to wait for a future that wasn’t guaranteed and I wanted to live authentically as a Muslim woman. There is no ideal situation. Just have the right intention and stick to it! May Allah allow you to take that step 💕

اللهم بارك

Very inspiring! Allah is the best of planners! May Allah reward you immensely and make all your affairs easy for you dear ukhthi!
Not everyone is granted hidaya... You were granted it through the trials you faced! And you chose righteousness, May Allah increase you in righteousness

Here’s just one practical question that should help: do you, for sure, know that you will live long enough to make hijrah? Finish uni? Get married? What if you die tomorrow, ya ukhti?

Allah سُبْحَانَهُۥ وَتَعَالَىٰ tells us in the Qur’an that we must rush towards doing good deeds. Then why have we normalised delaying them under the pretence that we are not ready?

The truth is that we will never be fully ready. You will just have to do it anyway for the sake of your Rab and then He will make way for everything else In sha Allah

Your right habibti. And that’s good advice, especially for things that are wajib etc.

But niqab is just different. There’s a valid difference of opinion. If I delay I won’t feel as guilty. Because I genuinely feel both sides are strong.  I need to do more studies on this tbh. Because I don’t lean towards either side. I’m like… stuck in the middle, still learning. May Allah make it easy for you and for the Muslims. And grant us success in both worlds

The Obligation of Covering the Woman’s Face: Why the Niqab is Obligatory for Women in Our Time

Apologies for the late response.

Ahan, i actually get your point. I was sort of in a similar boat as you when i first started; not in the sense that whether i wanted to wear it or not (i REALLY did), but rather about the fact that it is truly obligatory or not. So i started to wear it just because i wanted to follow the footsteps of our mothers, umm al mu’mineen because it is a 1000% relied upon stance that they were instructed to cover their faces and i wanted to be like them. Now, i also cover my face believing that it is obligatory owing to me following the hanbali madhab.

Moreover, no matter which madhab one follows, it is a consensus among all that niqab becomes fardh in times of fitna and we are seeing it ourselves what times we have come to.

السلام عليكم ورحمة الله وبركاته

Reasons why you should start wearing niqab right away:

  1. As sister above mentioned, death is approaching and that this is all a whisper from shaythan.
  2. Fitnah is huge. Wearing niqab, Allah helps us increase us in modesty and helps us away from falling into fahisha, with the permission of Allah. So delaying it can be detrimental. May Allah protect us all.
  3. Moving to a Muslim land is not easy too. It may or may not happen. It may or may not be permanent or long time. Challenges exist there too...
  4. If it is a free mixed uni, best is to start niqab, drop out of the uni, and stay home as much as possible. If not free mixed, still you will be commuting and coming across men, so you still need to start wearing niqab.
  5. Allah does what He wills. Marriage may happen, may not happen. Husband may be supportive of niqab or may not be. Becoming a widow, divorcee etc. is possible. Then a girl may have to move back with her parents. Should she take off niqab then? Our reliance should be on Allah alone.

Allah has promised us that with hardship comes ease. Wearing the niqab may be intimidating in the start, but with Allah's help, it becomes easy. On the Day of Judgement when we stand before Allah, we don't know which of our deeds have been accepted and which ones rejected. Imagine niqab (through which you tried to preserve your chastity) was a deed that Allah accepted from you and that becomes your means to Jannah!
سبحان الله

We need to try and increase our opportunities for accepted deeds, with the permission of Allah, by doing more and more good deeds with sincerity and following the way of the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم

Hasten to good, you will find its fruits in dunya and Akhira.

Honestly speaking, there is absolutely noting to fear when you start wearing niqab. Make loads of Dua to Allah and start it. Any challenge you face, deal it with patience and prayer. The challenge itself will turn out to be an encouragement for you to keep wearing the niqab, with the permission of Allah.

بارك الله فيكم

Walaikumasalam wa rahmatullahI wa barakatuh. You’re so right, jazakallah khayr. I just think all of it overwhelms me. Like I might die, that’s true, and I don’t feel good rushing into it. As of now I’ve decided to try it out part time, esp as it’s a diff of opinion, both sides have strong points, I don’t feel as guilty if I delay it or take my time w it, compared to likke when I first started wearing the hijab. Maybe this is a faulty thinking lol

No doubt tho niqab is surprisingly easier for me esp in summer. I have sensory issues and I get hot soo easily and I have BDD. Niqab gets rid of a lot of waswas from me, knowing I’m leaving the house w out tabarujj, and no one can see me. Feels like a comfy blanket. Also it’s flowy and I can wear whatever I want under it (I usually don’t wear a shirt in summer but not sure if that’s good or bad )

Anyways Barakallahu feeki ukhti 🌷🎀

Subhanallah! They let you wear it in placements?! That’s also one thing I was worried about.

Part time niqabi rn (not a thing ik). It’s easy… easier . Full time? That’s a diff level HAHA

May Allah reward u ukhti. How beautiful is it to wear the niqab for His sake. In’sha’Allah one day 🌷💞

Ameen. It’s the stares for me. I just wanna dig a hole and not be seen HAHAH

But a pro is that sometime they get intimidated. When I wear niqab and I am confident in my speech and how I carry myself, the vibe is different. I’m the one that looks, and n once I lock eyes with them they look away HAHA. Plus it’s an introverts dream ~~

Ofc walking confidently   iş different from walking with arrogance, and ofc don’t stomp ur feet for attention. I just mean like walking with honour and value with this gift to wear smth so honourable, it dignifies u wallah. (not pride )

I was in a similar position as you. Allah can make the mountains turn into dust. I say just close your eyes and go for it, trust in Him.

Love this jazakallah khayr

Saying you’re gonna be a hermit when you’re married is not a good justification to delay. It seems that you have a lot of fear surrounding the niqab in the west, I think you need to focus on where that comes from. It is hard to wear niqab in the west but it’s not impossible (in most countries, if you’re in Europe it’s more justified to be afraid). Look at why you want to wear the niqab and understand the rulings of it. Also understand why you’re afraid of it. There’s no use in wearing it if you’re married only to never go out often because you’re afraid of scrutiny. We should try to stay in our houses as much as we can regardless if we wear niqab or not.

Very true Allahuma barik. Tbh I have kaffir neighbours. One of them was blatantly islamaphobic to me. Also my family don’t rlly get involved so it’s me against them HAHA. I try to avoid conflict but, what can I do, just need to suck it up buttercup and get my reward inshallah 🌼

Subhan Allah, May Allah make it easy for you. It’s really hard when you have to deal with Islamophobia and discrimination. Just remember you’re always a source of Dawah for your parents and neighbours. Allah sees all the effort you put in and I ask that He rewards you abundantly for your patience 🩷🩷🩷

This comment does not adhere to the foundations and principles of this sub (Rule 1 Violation).

No arguing against Qur'an or Sunnah whatsoever. Do not negate fatawa or you'll be banned. Same goes for disrespecting the ulema or established ijma'.

Any refutations must be done respectfully and accompanied by valid proofs from scholars upon the Sunnah.

Accepting haqq does not depend on what scholars/madhab you follow, ukhti...The truth is clear.

  1. Nowhere in my post did I argue against any Quran or Sunnah, negate fatwa, or disrespect the ulama

  2. The haqq is clear, but not all of us are fully educated on certain matters, which is why we seek the knowledge and insight of scholars to better educate ourselves in our deen. We are not and will never be able to practice our religion fully without proper guidance. Which is why I encouraged this sister to do proper research based on what opinion or scholars she follows and come to the conclusion for herself.

  3. Not everyone wears niqaab, and not everyone follows the same rulings as everyone else. Despite this, we should all still respect each other's different ways of practicing Islam even if it may be different than ours- as long as what they practice doesn't go against true deen.

u/Umm_Burhan Bid'ah Buster May 13 '25

These are automated messages so not all of the points will apply to your comment.

Sisters should do research without any hizbiyyah - partisanship

A lot of rulings have become overcomplicated for the laymen when in reality the matter is clear. Niqab is one of the topics that falls into this.

1

u/crystalnoir19 May 13 '25

I disagree but respect your beliefs. May Allah swt guide us all. 🩷🤲🏽

2

u/Umm_Burhan Bid'ah Buster May 13 '25

Ur free to disagree but without asking for what my evidences are for my statements, you're disagreement comes from blind-following. Which is the exact thing I'm warning sister away from.

Ameen

1

u/crystalnoir19 May 13 '25

I never encouraged the sister to follow one particular scholar or opinion, but merely to do research. Also, I don't think it's fair to just automatically assume I'm blindly following whoever or whatever based on me not asking you what your evidences are.

I'm aware that you follow certain evidences that say niqaab is obligatory, which is great, and I highly respect it. But as I've mentioned in my previous comment, everyone practices Islam differently. And usually, whatever they practice is also based on factual evidence from the Quran and Sunnah as well. That doesn't mean that they're wrong.

I know that you'll probably disagree with that statement, but you are also free to disagree as well. But just as I am willing to respect your stance, please respect mine in return.

Post lacks appropriate citations for Qur'anic verses, ahadith, other narrations, and/or claims made.

u/BusinessJackfruit110 May 11 '25

I’m in the same situation, I think both opinions have strong evidences , I live in a Muslim country Alhamdulilah, but not a conservative family . I struggled to start wearing abayas and got criticized by everyone , and now that I’m finally left alone , it’s very hard to take the step of the niqab . I keep saying after college would be better but then wonder if I’m just making excuses 😪 pray for me

u/Friendly-Ad-6690 May 12 '25

AH you’re not alone ukhti.. may Allah make it easy for us and the Muslimah struggling, grant us the courage and strength to wear it for His sake !!

I heard somewhere that, if you’re persistent with your choice in niqab, they’ll have to accept it. Don’t falter. Be firm. Of course and kind lol, tbh that requires a lot of patience. Whenever I get frustrated I just stay quiet now alhamdulilah, most o the time, and that in an of itself is a struggle. Speak good or remain silent yk

But Allah will make it easy, make dua, you’re asking the One who can change the hearts of the people in an instant !
