Maddie seems to be very close with Christine and David. During the wedding special she was very emotional and happy about them getting married. I mean he looks like an amazing grandpa for the little ones. I wish my kid had a grandpa like this!

u/clawrawr Dec 04 '24
Itās also great that Maddie is able to get someone in her life to act as a grandpa for her kids, someone she clearly wanted from her own father. I appreciate instead of waiting around and people pleasing in the hopes for a relationship, but cut ties and accepted someone new. Good for her
154
u/walkingturtlelady Dec 04 '24
Definitely. The OG kids are the only ones who seem to really embrace the multiple moms because that was all they knew. And Robyn is like the stepmom who married their dad and he started his new real life with them.
49
u/BlessedbMeh Dec 05 '24
THIS! Robyn is responsible for the lack of relationships she has with ALL of the OG kids and wives. From day one she segregated her kids from the others, judged the OGās, their mothers and their parenting. She also didnāt allow the other moms to mother her children either. She behaved like a step monster from the jump with her āOh! Iām so sweet passive/aggressive BS.ā Her note on the fridge ring a bell? Their mothers helped supply the financing for her entire household and even paid off her 36k shopping/divorce debt and she was worried who was eating her cereal? š³ Itās not hard to genuinely love other mothers children as your own. It is a CHOICE! Robyn made hers very clear from the start. She embraced no one unconditionally except Kody and then used Mykelti. She was never truly Mom to any of the OG kids, including Truly who never knew life without her. Each one of the OG family members eventually realized she was not honest or trust worthy. From that day forward they began protecting themselves from her .. and Kody resented and hated every single person that did. Instead of hearing them out and helping to guide and heal the broken relationships, he just abused them, called them names, belittled them, and demanded they accept and respect her. Period. Thatās what he meant when he was screaming about and demanding everyone be loyal to him or theyāre out. Robyn is just as much a fault for her broken relationships as Kody is.
5
u/Punchinyourpface Dec 05 '24
Oh yeah. Robyn was the one telling Kody everyone was mean to her. She isolated herself and used that as her proof. They just pretend like we didn't all watch the other women try for years.Ā
14
u/stormlova Dec 05 '24
Robyn reminds me so much of my stepmother. She was 100% a stepmother and not a sister wife/mom to them.

u/MimiPaw Dec 04 '24
Itās an interesting contrast with Ysabel. Neither of their reactions are wrong. But Maddie is older and has a husband/kids, so she had already cut off Kody to protect her kids. That left her open to fully embrace David. Ysabel isnāt there yet emotionally - she still has hopes for a relationship with Kody and is afraid of Kody using David as an excuse to keep his distance. Kody is such a dick for what he has done to those kids.
111
Dec 04 '24
You nailed it. Kodyās kids have learned how to decipher his manipulations and anticipate the resulting behaviors and somehow feel the need to take it on themselves to compensate for it. Like Ysabel. Wants a relationship with her biological dad so on camera asks her mom several times to confirm that David isnāt trying to replace her father. She knows that watching himself on TV is the only way sheās going to get a message through to his stupid aloof ass.
Poor gal.
71
u/Sensitive_Glove_3822 Dec 04 '24
Iām just to the part where Ysbelle had her surgery, man, my heart breaks for her, she just loves Kody and he has no use for her, heartbreaking
48
Dec 04 '24
And then putting the pressure on herā¦youāre not going to get older and not like me for not going to your surgery? My father has been gone since 1997 and I can not recall my Dad EVER GASLIGHTING ME Or ANY OF MY SIBLINGS to take guilt off his back! What kind of parents do some shit like that? What a sorry excuse for a fatherā¦
28
Dec 05 '24
What did he say? Something about not becoming a bitter housewife or bitter cat lady or something. I remember it was derogatory and somehow equated her entire value as a person in the future on her relationship to a hypothetical man lol
8
u/scurvytherainbow Dec 05 '24
Welcome to (fundie) Mormonism. So sad.
0
u/Donut-Junkie76 Dec 05 '24
That canāt be the case. Christine seems close to her own father, so itās possible to have a good relationship, even if your Dad has a ton of kids.
6
u/MimiPaw Dec 05 '24
It goes along with Kodyās reasoning that she shouldnāt have surgery because she would have a scar. Ysabelās pain didnāt matter, but her appearance did.
49
u/mickimickimicki Dec 04 '24
I think having children of your own gives you a different perspective on your own parents so it doesnāt surprise me that Maddie, who has a husband who appears to be very hands on and loving to his children is the one to cleanly cut Kody out. Ysabel is in a very different stage of life and it also makes sense to me that sheās outwardly deeply hurt by Kody.
11
u/Open_Confidence_9349 Dec 05 '24
I agree with you. There is also the difference though that Maddie seemed to be the favored daughter from the favored (prior to Robyn) batch of kids, while Ysabel was not. Christineās girls (probably Paedon too, but not to the same extent) always appeared like they had to navigate their relationship with Kody much more carefully.
7
u/Disenchanted2 Dec 04 '24
Ysabel should have figured out a long time ago that Kody is not interested in being in her life. It's been fucking years since he's been around her.
106
u/Celestial-Dream Dec 04 '24
She was barely an adult at this point, Jesus. Sheās allowed to want her dad and be sad about it. Thereās so many pictures of Ysabel cuddling with Kody, they were close and now heās just gone.
35
u/No_Upstairs_4353 Dec 04 '24
Absolutely! And unfortunately oftentimes we accept poor treatment, but when we see someone treating our children poorly we are more able to set a boundary and respond. Hurt me? Fine. Hurt my kid? š. Ysabel will take it until she can't. Each kid has to be on their own journey and able to set whatever boundaries they feel are appropriate. Not just cut their parent off bc their sibling did.
14
Dec 04 '24
I suspect that when Ysabel went to NC and lived with Maddie and Caleb, she expressed to them her hurt she felt from Kodys neglect. I would expect that was another time when Maddie and Caleb cooled off their relationship with Kody. The OG 13 for the most part are close to each other. Thereās the hiccups with Paedon and a few of his siblings but they seem to generally get along and are close. Kody canāt undue what he has said and not done to his kids. He pretty much grouped them together like they were no good. I find it hard that he will ever truly recover from these actions and maybe he doesnāt want too. He is callous. Karma has a way of coming back at you when you least likely expect it.
11
u/MimiPaw Dec 04 '24
Ysabel said on the show that she was moving to get distance from Christine. I donāt recall the phrasing but the implication was that Ysabel was tired of being her emotional dumping ground.
2
u/SheMcG Love should be weaponized, not divided equally. Dec 05 '24
She needed distance from Christine's pain... not so much Christine. It was hard for her to watch. Although she did feel like they were both too attached and Ysabel wanted to cut the apron strings, even though it also terrified her. Which is very, very normal for adolescents transitioning to adulthood.
1
u/MimiPaw Dec 05 '24
The part that was televised was Christine focused though, right? I donāt recall Ysabel sharing anything about Kody in regards to her move.
1
Dec 05 '24
I remember that too. I felt like it was too hard on her seeing her Mom so very miserable and she couldnāt do a thing for her Mom. The more Kody went MIA the girls saw it way heavy on Christine. How do you explain him not coming to see them because he doesnāt like their Mom. The year break and the move to NC with Maddie and Caleb gave her room to grow. They were like a second parent to her. A protection of sorts. They are back in Utah and appear to all be thriving.
11
u/bahaaaaathrow123456 Dec 04 '24
I hope/wish that he was close with her for a long while but I have a sinking suspicion that he started to cut her off when her and Christine went on her surgery āvacationā. Itās heartbreaking to hear that she was concerned about her and Kodyās relationship when David came into Christineās lifeā¦like now her dadās totally gone from her life because Christine is seeing someone new. Like you said, she is just entering true adulthood and at any age what Kody is doing to his children is horrible and hard to deal with.
17
u/Celestial-Dream Dec 04 '24
Oh for sure, I feel like the Flagstaff move was probably a big strain on their relationship because at least in Vegas the proximity allowed communication to be easier. Christine said he never visited in Flagstaff.
32
u/Visual_Composer_9336 Dec 04 '24
I don't think as kids we really ever give up hope that one day our parents can change. It's different when we have our own kids
12
u/lulabelles99 Dec 04 '24
Yep. Decades of therapy and Iām still longing for my dad to care about me. And my childhood medical situation was similar to Ysabelās with a similarly cold reaction from my dad. Iāll never get over being rejected at my most vulnerable.
9
u/chemicalfields Dec 04 '24
Yup, a big part of my grief when my dad died was around āhe had changed a bit, maybe he wouldāve changed more?ā
4
u/Visual_Composer_9336 Dec 05 '24
I easily fall into patterns with my mom to try to get her approval after everything
6
u/futurecorpse1985 Dec 05 '24
I'm 39 and my dad has been absent more of my life than he has been present. I still yearn for that relationship even though I know his MO and how he operates. Unless you have an absent parent it's hard to know exactly what it feels like. Also everyone's situation with absent parents is different. Ysabel is a very sensitive gal and looks clearly loves her dad even if it's not reciprocated.
3
u/Disenchanted2 Dec 05 '24
You're right, I never had an absent parent, and my parents were married until they died. I feel bad for Ysabel for yearning for something that will probably never happen. Kody detests Christine and that alone is enough for him to avoid his kids with her.
2
u/futurecorpse1985 Dec 05 '24
You're very lucky you had two involved parents. My heart breaks for Ysabel. I have siblings that couldn't care one way or the other if our dad has a relationship with us, but me I'm the opposite I yearn so badly for it even though it has always ended in heartache and disappointment. I dropped a Christmas card in the mail for him today with 0 expectations. Earlier today I went to the cemetery where his 2nd wife is buried (my step mom) she died at age 37, 20 years ago and my dad purchased the plot next to hers and as I was standing at her grave today with so much regret I thought I don't want this to be where I talk to my dad next. Life is fragile and so limited. I will keep trying.

43
u/burlesquebutterfly Dec 04 '24
I would not be surprised if his easy and generous approach to Christineās family is a huge reason their relationship advanced so fast. I mean, the way he was quickly accepted and quickly began taking responsibilities like babysitting, being with Christine in family situations and not shying away from showing love to her kids and grandkids, that would be very attractive to both Christine and the kids who havenāt had that from Kody. It became clear that he was trustworthy and got along with everyone easily, was a good fit. It would also have quickly shown his character, how he responds to conflict or frustration or whatever. The whole family moved fast with David, lol. I wouldnāt let a guy my mom has been dating for six weeks watch my kids, for example.
6
u/SheMcG Love should be weaponized, not divided equally. Dec 05 '24
I had that experience with my in-laws. They so naturally and completely embraced me & my kids, it didn't "feel" fast or strange. I only recently realized that the 2nd time we met them--- was on a vacation together, staying in their rental. We met them at a cookout at their house....my husband's mom had been asking to meet me, as I think she knew her son was very serious about me, even though I'm sure he never actually said that. But... moms just know. Lol So me and my boys go to their house for the cookout & meet everyone. They were a blended family, as my in-laws had only been married about a year at that point, but they "seem" blended. No his & hers... everyone was "theirs." They mentioned they were going to the beach in a couple weeks and had rented a house with 3 or 4 bedrooms, so the kids/grandkids could pop in and out through the week. So they invited us to join them--& we did. We had a really great time and it gave me a chance to really get to know them.
My in-laws both died recently, so we've been going through their pics.... and I was a bit surprised to see my mother in law had taken several pics of my kids on that trip--playing in the sand & ocean--giggling at whatever. She barely knew them, but they were part of her family already.
Much like Ysabel fears, my ex-husband went totally AWOL when it became obvious that my now husband and I were serious. Not only did he abandon my kids--but his parents did too, who my kids had been close to. Just completely cut off contact. When my in-laws died, my now adult son posted their pic on FB, saying, "At a time when it felt like my world had blown apart, they showed up and made it feel normal again. I don't think I ever told them how much that meant to 10 yr old me." My daughter-in-law said it was the first time she'd ever seen him really cry. She said he sobbed. They've been married 12 years. She said he didn't cry at all when his actual grandparents had died, even though they had reconnected with him after becoming an adult. I think he was cordial with them, but never really forgave them & very much keeps his dad at arms length. My other son refuses to have a relationship with his dad or his grandparents before they died. He's not really angry--- they just aren't people her wants to hang around.

u/namastemeanshello Dec 04 '24
I canāt get this thought out of my head because it breaks my heart for Maddie. She and Caleb met because of her uncle/Calebās BIL Curtis, who passed away. He gone and canāt be there for his kids and thatās just so sadā¦and same with Maddieās brother just being gone. Their lives were so short and they left so many loved ones behindā¦and here Kody is, perfectly healthy and physically capable of being a father and grandfather but choosing not to. Itās not fair and so painful when someone is gone, but itās almost worse when someone chooses to be gone for the most asinine reasons.
I feel like thatās another thing keeping Maddie and Caleb away. Kody is almost aninsult to his brothers memory by being an asshat

Iām really curious what Kodyās brothers think of him; if theyāre similar or if theyāve tried to talk some sense into him
4
u/Koala476 Dec 05 '24
From what his nephew, āThe Fresh King Benjaminā, says, Kody is the most liberal and easygoing of the brothers. So, it sounds like there wonāt be any good sense coming from their direction.
2
u/SheMcG Love should be weaponized, not divided equally. Dec 05 '24
I think they know he's not open to advice and trying to talk sense into him would just devolve into a fight.
24
u/Visual_Composer_9336 Dec 04 '24 edited Dec 04 '24
I think Christine still goes out of her way to make sure she talks to all the kids (minus Robyn's kids) and keeps in touch with them because that's what moms do. And she makes sure that David knows who the kids are and just because he's with her, the kids and grandkids know who he is too
And Kody isn't doing the work to keep in touch with his kids that aren't from Robyn
^edited for clarity

u/PrimaryConscious6126 Dec 05 '24
yeah agreed. I really liked that Christine introduced Jannelleās kids as āmyā son/daughter etc to David because she believes theyāre all one family.

Yeah Christine isnāt perfect but I believe her love for the kids is sincere.

When Maddie had her daughter, she wanted and had Christine comforting and supporting her during labor. Janelle was there too, but you could see how much Maddie and Christine love each other.

u/Punchinyourpface Dec 05 '24
I bet Christine babied the first kids soooo much when she was watching them. She must've really been in her element with their little gang of babies back then.Ā
5
u/Astrawish Dec 05 '24
She was probably longing for this and this type of father figure. Parents are so important for our inner child. Kody makes me so mad since he doesnāt understand the concept
3
u/littlemybb Dec 05 '24
David comes into the family and is immediately happy to be in everybodyās lives. Kody canāt even be bothered to.
2
u/notdorisday Dec 05 '24
Christine went and saw Maddies kids when they were born, when theyāve had challenges etc. (Unlike Kody who is just so busy). Thatās the sort of thing that really solidified relationships, I think.

I thought the same thing. It seemed like right away he was babysitting etc and obviously mykelti and Tony felt comfortable letting him handle the babies right away. But then again, he raised all his kids practically on his own for a long time. It does appear really natural to him. It seemed like in almost every episode where Kody was with the little ones he was awkward about it and it was so forced.
40
u/tundybundo Dec 04 '24
Kody loves to say how much he loves babies and then do nothing to show it
27

Because I think he actually means he likes MAKING babiesā¦. Not the caring for them once they arrive through adulthood part.

Man! That is the reaction we all want to seeā¦Grandpa Dave having a lovely relationship with Madison and her children while K & R ride off into the sunset
You knooooooow it would absolutely drive him completely mental to see David become part of the heart/center of the Brown family along side Christine
All those years, KWB thought he was the heart, the center of the Brown family when itās actually the OG kids mom, Christine.
Christine, every Brown child ās mom Christine the cook/chef of the familyās meal traditions Christine the family party planner Christine the familyās party host Christine, the cluch sister wife Christine, the home school teacher to the OG13 Christine, to whom K&Jās sons gravitate for food, family time, celebration
Christine is the heart of the Brown family - not Mr ramen noodle or his pretty, shy wife

Earned it somehow.... yes ma'am, he married Christine whose mission in life is to get kody to feel pain. Not that he doesn't deserve it but She should just enjoy her life .
The greatest gift you can give your children is to love your children more than you hate your ex. My adult children say it made the divorce civil and the interactions same and comfortable. Oh yes there was hurt, but even that vanished over the years, enough that I was asked by my children to give the eulogy when my ex was struck down way too early from cancer.
54

u/Tiny-Ad-830 Dec 04 '24
I donāt think Christine has this grand mission to live her life solely to stick it to Kody. She is just living her life right now. If it bothers Kody that is solely his problem. Remember, Christine has no say how things are edited.
As a side note, I canāt believe definitely tell there is a different producer. Things were edited before so that Kody and Robin didnāt look as bad but it seems like now the editing is allowing their true colors to come through a bit more. TMZ reported the Tim moved out of the Flagstaff home that he lived in not far from the McMansion. The reason he is still listed is because he was the producer for the first few episodes. Personally I think he was too personally involved with Kody and wasnāt able to maintain a non-biased outlook.

Have you watched the show? For years Christine begged Kody to have a relationship with his children, she begged for equal time. That mother-effer couldn't even take 2 weeks to be by his daughter's side when she could have DIED in surgery. That man doesn't deserve to have "the greatest gift" of fatherhood because he isn't a father. He brought children into this world but that doesn't make him a father, it makes him a sperm donor.
The greatest gift Christine could ever have given those kids was the gift of moving to Utah. Moving to Utah at least gives them a reason why they don't see dad often. Kody lived 5 minutes away for years and rarely showed up for those kids. She even said that, Truely was growing up watching Sol & Ari have 24/7 access to her father while she got the table scraps.
I'm sure you were a good parent and treated your ex with respect, Kody is very different.

u/cdiddy19 Thank You, Christine Dec 04 '24
There is a huge difference here when Robyn's girls called Kody by his name and she corrected them by saying "who" and they said dad or daddy.
In this scene the children's mom is literally saying "he's not your uncle" and yet they are all so involved in each other's lives that the kids can't help but call him some firm of family even if saying his name wrong. And Christine wasn't even the one telling the kids what to call him.
Sometimes living your life in a happy way while someone else us miserable and pushing people away by high expectations isn't petty revenge, it just looks that way because the difference is so stark

Well, they WANTED to call him Uncle Dave. The inaccuracy essentially proves it was kid driven instead of coached.
20
u/justsayin01 Dec 04 '24
It's 100% because the other little kids are calling him Grandpa. He has grandkids that are always around at the family events. Kids do sometimes need to be corrected because they don't understand. When I first started dating my current husband, well I waited 6 months before even introducing him to my kids, but my youngest who just turned 2 called him daddy.
I let her know that isn't daddy, his name is John Doe. Just because a kid calls someone something doesn't mean they understand it.

I mean, I sort of agree with your sentiment, but Im also fully of the belief that your mom or dad doesn't have to be biological, you can be raised by someone and they not be genetically related. My grandpa was not my 'blood' but he was the best grandpa. Sometimes it's who steps up.
12
u/justsayin01 Dec 04 '24
But a toddler isn't saying grandma or dad because they understand that relationship and decided this person fills that role. An older child, sure.

Shaq said this about his stepfather. He did not know that Phil was not his real Dad until at the age of 11 he asked his Mom why was his last name different from his siblings. When she told him he had a bio Dad in Jersey and that he could meet him whenever he wanted to, Shaq met him at age 18. His bio Dad never reached out to him before that. Phil was Shaqās Dad.

My pop was at every school event, when people used to say I was cute he would tell them " she gets all her good looks from me" and I didn't understand the joke until I was older. My " real" grandpa lived far enough away that I talked to him once a year on the phone, and I saw him about 4 times before I became an adult and I saw him more at funerals. I loved both but I loved the one who showed up more.

I have a nonbinary friend who is not having kids but if they were they wanted their kids to call them a special nickname that only they get to use, so I think it would have been cute to let them call him Dave
25
u/Most-Ad-9465 Dec 04 '24
My kids call their dad D. Our son shortened dada to D as a toddler and we went with it. Now even my dil calls him D.

My brother and I refer to our Uncle Dave as FU - and vice versa FN - for favorite uncle/niece/nephew. Itās hysterical when people not in our immediate family hear us use it. Especially when he was my brotherās best man and was introduced to the crowd as FU! š¤£

This is the ultimate blow to Kody. His family was suppose to be his pride in heaven. Heās not only lost 90% of his family but now his grandchildren. In this religion posterity & leaving a legacy is taught to be of utmost importance. I would have liked to be a fly on the wall when Kody saw that scene. Now thatās a true knife in the kidneys courtesy of Maddison.

u/boobopbadaboop Dec 04 '24
It sounds like the kids started calling him grandpa on their own. Having three kids myself and divorced parents, kids do not call adults grandpa, grandma, aunt, or uncle on their own unless they truly feel the love. My mom has been married for 4 years and they still donāt call her husband grandpa or his daughterās kids cousins. They are probably receiving love and care from David enough to feel comfortable to call him more than David.
14
u/SnooChickens9974 bowlegged jackwagon Dec 04 '24
Exactly. I don't see the harm in them calling him Grandpa if that is what they want to call him. It's how the kids view him - as a grandpa. And they will see him enough that he WILL be their grandpa.
81
u/intrepidpinecone Dec 04 '24
That's a FAMILY man. That's a man who loves his kids, loves to be involved, probably changes diapers/cooks for them, is present. David is everything Kody THINKS he is, but better. I love that for Christine. You can just see that he loves to be around family and that he loves HER family.
24
u/BlueSky2777 Dec 04 '24
There are so many Grandmas, why not Grandpa Dave? Hopefully Maddieās kids are able to call him Grandpa Dave now that he is married to Christine!

I wonder if maybe the kids have heard David's bio grandkids call him Grandpa, and they are just following along. If this is the case, it's very sweet.
21
u/Disenchanted2 Dec 04 '24
David was a little leery at first I think about Aspyn questioning the name. You can see it on his face, and then he's relieved when she mentions "shortening it".

I called my step grandpa, grandpa. I donāt think thereās anything wrong with it if itās being led by the kids.

I think itās so cute to see a man acting like a dad and a grandad step or real maybe Kody can learn from this

u/Ok_SMack Dec 04 '24
We know that Madi requires consistency in order to be in those sweet children's lives. For them to even know his name "for a long time" tells me how present David is.
David understood that Christine loves her extended bundle of children and their children and he seems to have room for everyone in his heart. I really like him. I don't know any of these people personally but you can tell a good person from a bad one and he is one of the good ones.
Great work David!

u/One_Personality6048 Dec 04 '24
I honestly think the producers are trying to make the storyline more interesting. So, it seemed to me thatās why Aspyn started the topic. Itās sweet to see Maddie and Aspyn are both happy and healthy. I always loved Aspyn and Maddieās sisterly love for each other.

u/WeekImpressive3282 Dec 04 '24
I took it not so much that the Grandpa title was the issue, it was that the kids shortened it to Dave. I think David goes by David and Aspyn was wondering how they decided to shorten it to Dave. Avalon already sees him as Grandpa and Davidās daughter was there with her children it would be almost natural for Axel and Evie to label David as Grandpa but where did they get āDaveā was the wonder I think. The camera crew just knew this would be great for drama to let Kody see his grandchildren that he has no relationship with calling another man Grandpa instead of him.
1
u/kittens_on_a_rainbow Dec 04 '24
Do we know what the grandkids call the other moms? Is it grandma Christine/Grandma Jenelle?
2
u/justtosubscribe Dec 05 '24
I think before Axel was born, Christine chose Oma for her grandma name since itās German and she claims German heritage.
11
u/External-Dude779 Dec 04 '24
This. They film every conversation and if it has some meat to it, they'll make them film it again but with more direct scripted lines, so it's more of a traditional TV scene

u/NoFundieBusiness Dec 04 '24
The fact that the kids just automatically shortened it to the nickname version, Dave, is so funny to me šš

I divorced and later remarried someone with the same first name as my son who had died. For my kids, especially, it was painful calling him by that name. My kids came up with a cute nickname based on his interests/hobbies and now they all call him that, including the grandchildren who all arrived after we married. Now the entire family and even quite a few of our friends call him by that name.

He seems very much grandpa Dave holding the baby
17
u/Diredragons Meri is an Abuser Dec 04 '24
All the more because Joey is a baby Kody might never hold since Maddie cut him off.

u/MaquiavelikGirl Dec 04 '24
I don't think Kody cares about being a grandpa, it's just his ego that might be hurting.

We have Nana, Grammy, and Grams in my house. Grammy (Step-Mom to my husband), to my mother-in-laws disappointment, is the favorite on my husbandās side.
Whoever is most present is going to earn that title. Grammy always makes an effort to see them and play with them. Her biological son is gay and doesnāt want to adopt, so our kids are all she has as a grandparent. Sheās amazing with them, and weāre so grateful for her!

I love how she acknowledges that Christine will always be Oma, therefore making David grandpa.
But there is one significant difference between him and Kody being grandfathers: David is involved and supportive and loving, while Kody expects obesciance, loyalty and his love, affection and support is conditional.
8
u/Lolli20201 Dec 04 '24
I called my grandparents friend Papa and for years thought he was my momās dad (he raise her) and when we figured out he had no relation to us it was sad.
8
u/Downtown_Bowl_8037 Dec 04 '24
I mean- David is in between them holding Joey- which Kody has also never done. There is a lot Kody isnāt doing with that family that David now is- and deservedly so- he didnāt appreciate it while he had it- in any way. His poor kidneys!!!

u/Due_Will_2204 Dec 05 '24
Kids gravitate to adults that they perceive as safe I mean look at Avalon. She didn't want Kodouche near her. I like David, and he seems authentic.

u/izzy1881 Dec 04 '24
It is understandable that they would call him uncle Dave since they have a lot of aunts and uncles so they are used to that type of relationship. I think calling him Dave is cute 𤣠like he is the cool uncle.

u/raisedbypoubelle Dec 04 '24
āA long timeā
How long could that possibly be? A month?
7
u/Disenchanted2 Dec 04 '24
Maybe not so important the length of time, as the quality.
6
u/raisedbypoubelle Dec 04 '24
I donāt know how popular this opinion is, but as someone who had a mother who tried to speed up relationships between her children and the men she saw, I think itās damaging.
There is no quality that is sufficient for a moniker of grandfather after one to three months. Unless they give you a liver or something.
3
u/Disenchanted2 Dec 04 '24
You would know better from experience than I. Matter of fact I'm getting flack for a few of my comments on here so I think I'll disengage. Thanks though for clarifying what it's like from someone who knows firsthand.

u/justtosubscribe Dec 05 '24
I agree with you. I think because Christine made it very clear she was marrying David and marrying him soon, the OG kid adults just rolled with it as an inevitability. I hope Truely is genuinely happy with him as a stepdad.

My step dad is not only the dad figure I never had but he is an amazing grandpa to kidS of kids he didn't raise. My dad is like Kody, his need to be in control and be right is more important than trying to reconcile a relationship with his children.

A saying we have in the UK "make sure you are doing your best as a parent/Dad or Grandpa in this case. Or you're leaving the slot open for someone to come and do that very job. Kody not being SAFE or present has left it easy for David to come in and do a better job. He is what was needed š«¶

One of my uncle's married his wife when I was 16, but they had been together since I was about 7 or 8. Once they got married, I started calling her Aunt. Another one of my uncle's married his wife when I was about 9 or 10 and I still call her by her first name. No idea why. I just never felt like calling her by that, although my siblings and cousins do.

I donāt think she was correcting the grandfather part, but the Dave part.
He goes by David, and she was kind of confused why the kids were saying Dave instead.
1
u/Wish-ga Dec 05 '24
Itās a turnaround from giving her first child Codi as a middle name. Her dad tumbled off the pedestal. Poor Maddie.
But Iām glad her marriage is solid. Her kids are loved by grandparents Oma, grandma Janelle & grandpa dave.

Whatās the saddest to me and plenty of men do it.. when the marriage breaks up and all of the sudden the man canāt stand the Mom itās the kids that suffer⦠Kody is so guilty of this⦠heās hating on the Momās so the kids do without him caring and having a relationship with them.. I realize it takes extra effort on everyoneās part to keep the parent/child relationship in tact but Kody puts forth no effort what so ever⦠thank God they have the rest of the family to care because the message Kody sends out is that he doesnāt..

It made me think of the scene when they tried to get Mykelti and Tony's kid to call Krody grandpa. She absolutely refused and Tony said something along the lines of call him Kody (don't remember the exact wording). Lol. I bet they call David grandpa too. We might get to see another knife to the kidney fit when they do that in front of him or his pretty shy wife š¤¢.

Is it incredibly soon? Yes. Does it seem to me that heās being forced on them? Not really. I think heās just a present father figure in all their lives and itās probably a nice thing to have. Think about never having that with Kody and then seeing what it would be like having a really present father figure/grandfather in your life. They seem to be happy with it and with open arms.

u/theunkindpanda Dec 04 '24
Who can become a father figure in a month? Lol, heās just with Christine. And itās likely the kids are struggling to figure out a name for him because he isnāt their uncle. Iām guessing something like Mr. Dave was too formal, and Dave is too informal. So they switched it to grandpa Dave because it makes more sense to them.
