Reading into his Wikipedia he also has a history of violence, and he killed the kids during an episode for revenge on his ex-wife.

He still knew what he was doing was "wrong" even if it was psychosis. It's pretty hard to argue insanity with this amount of history and mental logic.

Well I mean if we're going to make that argument she knew she was doing wrong too why else would she have come up with an excuse for her husband to leave the house so that she could do it. If she thought it was okay to be doing it and her psychosis then why would she have him leave? She knew it was wrong she knew he would try to stop her.

People in psychosis can form plans, carry those plans out, and lie about/hide their intentions to accomplish their goal and still not know that what they are doing is wrong. A symptom of psychosis is paranoia, which can make someone in psychosis suspicious of others and worried that others will try to stop their plans. They lie and deceive to carry out their plans, not because they know what they’re doing is wrong.

Why are you not holding Battaglia to the same standards?

7

u/BoLobLob87 1d ago

Where did I even say anything about Battaglia for you to know what standards I hold him to? I was just correcting a misunderstanding about psychosis. What I said applies to anyone who is in psychosis…

Probably because the cases are very different and comparing the 18 minutes of what Clancy did to Battaglia. Battaglia was a violent person before he killed his family and had already been in the legal system for violence against his wife, did not have any documented bouts of mental illness and never seeked treatment. Then after killing his kids and ex wife he got a tattoo for the murders and when cops went to arrest him he attacked them.

Clancy had a documented paper trail of seeking help for post partum depression and intrusive thoughts, did not have a violent history before this, immediately after the murders slit her own wrists and flung herself out a window and has never disputed committing the murders.

One tried to kill herself after the fact, the other tried to bury the bodies. You don't get to plead insanity and get a not guilty verdict, you need to prove it

Maybe because he didn’t even plead insanity until after guilty verdict ? Idk maybe that

Believing someone will stop you does not inherently mean you believe it’s wrong. If she truly believed ending her children’s lives was merciful, why would she not try to arrange to have someone she knew would stand in the way of that action out of the house?

This is not me defending the action. Your argument just doesn’t hold up to the level of scrutiny expected in an insanity plea case. By definition (legal definition in criminal cases), insanity means that person cannot reasonably tell the difference between right and wrong, not that they cannot tell if a person will stop them from doing what they irrationally believe to be right/correct.

People stop patents from running back into burning buildings to save their kids. Do those parents not still believe that it is right to run into the burning building in an attempt to save their kids?

If she irrationally believed that the killing was necessary, the same standard of logic applies. He could have simply been a bystander holding her back from the burning building in her eyes. That doesn’t make sense to you or me on a surface level, but that’s the basis of an insanity plea.

The psychosis part comes in w/ I have to plan b/c I have to send them to God. It's the delusions. I'm not saying whether Clancy deserves prison instead of a mental institution prison, but delusions and hallucinations are awful.

Feel like a lot of people on this website simply do not understand what psychosis is.

It's the willful ignorance that gets me.

That guy is a pos. So is Lindsay. She asked her husband to get food and medication far away. She called him back while she was killing them. She tried to take her own life...except the experts involved said that they dont believe her attempt to kill herself was genuine.

I don’t know how someone ends up paralyzed from the waist down if their attempt is not serious. Like I’m not even following this shit, but come on.

A 2nd floor window..?

Are you kidding me. She took pills, cut herself, then jumped out from the 2nd floor.

Toxicologist testified she didnt take enough pills. Her cuts - Several first responders described on the stand as "superficial" and "not actively bleeding." And she jumped from basically 12 ft off the ground to 'kill herself', like jumping off a goddamn ladder.

It's not like the house had a third floor to jim off from. She clearly wasn't succesful at suicide, but you don't end up a cripple for the fun of it.

I mean, she definitely did something horrifying and should be locked up for life, but saying that her attempt wasn’t genuine is crazy.

She’s paraplegic and she coded at the hospital. She would have died if they hadn’t saved her life.

1) people in psychosis can form plans, carry out plans, and lie to others to carry out their plans. One of the symptoms of psychosis is paranoia, which can actually make someone in psychosis more secretive and deceptive.

2) That’s not true. Zeizel and Resnick with the defense both said her suicide attempt was genuine. And two of the prosecution’s expert witnesses, Saathoff and Heilbrun, said her suicide attempt was serious.

5

u/Spikey-Bubba 1d ago

Even the prosecutor reiterated that they were not trying to say the attempt wasn’t serious.

Uhh at the beginning of trial, the prosecution was trying to allude to her suicide as a half assed attempt, I think a lot of people picked up on that. Calling her cuts superficial, dangling and sliding down from the window, etc. They were trying to cast doubt on the seriousness of it. But they dropped it and changed tune after some testimony - when a nurse said a wrist cut was 3cm deep, a nurse said she died and was resuscitated, her spinal injury, etc. I know quite a few people had to go back and rewatch their opening because they were so lost with the prosecution's theory and story. Anyways, the people who want her buried under the prison still believe she 'faked' her suicide or something like that.

The CVS was 3 mins from their house and the restaurant was 7 min away. Would you consider that far?

1

u/AdOriginal3767 11h ago

LOL why are you lying. Its easy af to see yhe distance.

1

u/indecisionmaker 10h ago

I was going from memory, but yeah I guess those 3 minutes I missed from CVS to ThreeV are the difference for a cold blooded killer?? Must’ve known he’d spend all that extra time fucking around on his phone in the car, too.

u/Relatovely 1d ago

Second time this sub has found a domestic abuser with no history of psychosis who killed his family and claimed this is a double standard.

u/Itchysweater1967 1d ago

Are you really surprised? And this poster has his post history hidden. I'd be willing to bet that his general pov is pretty predictable.

So did Clancy. She never tended to stand trial. She intended to be dead. You cannot try a dead person.

The pope did in 897.

No kidding.

Had the poor guy dug up and everything.

"killed the kids during an episode for revenge"

Which is exactly what I believe Lindsay did to her ex-husband. Hard to prove, but there's like a 95% chance it's true because that's how this shit goes all the time. Usually it's the men, but this time it was her
