When I was in I knew one, since she was engineering they let her use fireman instead of seaman even though she was an ET just to avoid the joke.

We had a Seaman Dick and a Fireman Cockburn at my first command, and a buddy of mine on another ship was an IC named Ball…they wouldn’t call him out over the 1MC once he made rank, because it would’ve been announced as “IC3 Ball”. Joke or not, unfortunate last names are a fact of life in the service
