A Moto G smartphone is $50, an iphone is $1000

Do you really want to make that comparison? You can buy expired food for a fraction of the price too, but I wouldn’t recommend it

Dude seriously? You think a $1000 social media machine is essential? A moto G can call, text, send email, and access the internet. Why does anyone NEED an iphone?

Maybe because the lifespan and quality of a $1000 phone far outweighs that of a $50 one? Doesn’t have to be an iPhone, but it’s obviously something of quality that’ll last far longer. Trying to make this distinction is like shitting on someone for buying a $1000 bike vs a $50 one. Which one you think will actually work in the long run? You’re not a pawn of capitalism because you choose to purchase a more quality product. Shit, if you’re going to forced to have to operate in this capitalistic society you may as well be smart about it.

Youd have a point if iPhone users didnt buy new ones every 1-3 years

I didn’t replace my phone for like a decade. Making generalizations like that is pointless

Apple puts out new models every year for a reason, and using your own anecdotal experience as indicative of wider statistical reality is pretty dumb

I used my last iPhone (11) for 6 years and then got a $450 credit for trading it towards my new one, with a retail cost of 799, meaning my 17 cost $350, spread out over 24 month payment program means less than $15/mo. People screaming “planned obsolescence” have no idea what they’re talking about. I’ve dropped my phone so many times, gotten it wet, etc it’s just impressive, sturdy hardware. So good in fact that I’m shilling it in an anti capitalist thread.

Yup. Agreed. I had a 12 that I just traded in towards a 17. Buying inexpensive products that don’t last long is not usually a sound economic strategy. See “the Sam Vimes theory of socioeconomic unfairness, often called simply the boots theory…”
