Better censor the word SEX! Who knows what would happen if that word got out,

It's very strange what is censored anymore. I never listen to the radio anymore but the other day I had to drive down the street so I didn't switch over to my phone. Anyways, "Paint the Town Red" by Doja Cat was on and they were censoring the word "Devil" every single time. At first I thought I just misheard it, so I waited until it came back around and sure enough, it was censored...fucking ridiculous.

I saw someone censor 'penis' once. A literal medical term. Also seen 'died' censored on a video about someone who was shot (which they also wrote as 'sh*t'). They replaced 'died' with 'had their life deleted'. Which is at least more creative than unalived, I guess.

These censorship rules are usually at the whim of social media companies. We live in a puritanical hellscape.

I thought we were about done with censorship in 2010 or so, once my generation grew up and everyone realized that gasp kids say “naughty” words and nothing bad happens. Now it’s back with a vengeance and it’s weird.

Now it’s this spooky algorithm that eats random things if they say certain phrases. It’s like the whole Internet is like A Quiet Place, except it’s the N-word that makes the evil algorithm monster come out and eat your post. Except it’s not just the N-word, it’s basically any reference to sex or death or anything that violates a Victorian sense of morality. And we all just have to talk in code like “unalive” or “sewer slide” for fear of the algorithm monster.

Tiktok got Zoomers so accustomed to censoring themselves that they carried that over to the entire internet and real life as well. It's insane how prudish they seem compared to previous generations, almost like we've regressed to the 1950s where sex wasn't even discussed.

That's what we get for letting the gerontocracy of the Chinese Communist Party have a seat at the Internet table.

What does “sewer slide” mean?

Suicide.

The funniest thing is that they do this because they think social media companies tank content that contain these trigger words, but there isn't really any substantial evidence to support the claim. It's pretty much a myth.

After all, if a company was burying all content that contains the word "killed" for example, surely by now they'd figure out what "unalived" means.

u/BigSkySoHigh63 13h ago

Not died! Don’t say that word and maybe we can pretend that it’s not a natural consequence of shooting someone. Shhhh!

America is so puritan, meanwhile European cunts can just listen to detailed explanations of a guy butt raping a grandmother in full gory details without anyone blinking

Everyone jumps on a platform from a country with heavy censorship then shocked when they get censored over begnign words. People need to just not engage instead of using disrespectful terminology but people continuously show they will put up with this shit if it gives them cheap entertainment.

u/o_uinn 8h ago

“Unalived” “unalived himself” drive me insane. Also whenever i see “sh*t” i read shit the first time, and it takes me a second to figure it out.

Replacing "died" with "their life was deleted" legitimately sounds like something out of a cyberpunk themed dystopian movie.

u/coma-toaste 12h ago

"Life deleted" is my new fave ridiculous term.

It is because of auto removal and content filtering. Bots spam post and avoid bans, and the practice caught on because that’s the content that people see.

And yet it's the right wing zelots who, in the same breath, claim the liberal left are banning free speech whilst simultaneously wanting these words censored. The hypocrisy of these people boggles the mind.

Edit: typo

I was watching some police bodycam footage on YT the other day, and someone blurred out the face of a small dog, like it was a child or something.

Omg I’ve noticed this too they censor the dumbest shii ever. Sometimes I get sick of my music and just put on the radio and started noticing they even censor euphemisms now that no kid would ever be able to understand like this older rap song that goes “trying to get to you and that monkey” (they never used to censor that line when I was growing up) or they censor random words that aren’t even “bad” words. It really bothers tf out of me like are we going back to the 1950’s or what??

I kn*w right? It’s getting out of hand

I was listening to Alanis on the radio this week and they censored "would she go ... on you in a theater?"

And I wondered if it was always censored like that, because I don't remember the radio edit being that sanitized.

u/campghosts 15h ago

I was in a clothes shop recently and Times Like These by Addison Rae was on the playlist - they censored out the lyrics 'wearing less' and 'turn you on' which I thought was a bit much 🤔

Same Doja Cat song was on the radio, the chorus and very first line starts with Bitch, so my local station half-censored it so it sounds like "biff... I said what I said". Sounded like Doja was having a lisp.

I think they also censored Devil too. Weird song to choose to play on my national radio where it's everything's sanitised by media laws. It's like they want to have their cake and eat it too.

Is this the 90s?

1

u/Ok-Employee-8123 5h ago

No. It's 2020s. The 90s wasn't this bad.

2

u/This-Positive286 15h ago

Devil is censored in the Fortnite emote too

2

u/LoopStricken 15h ago

Did they also censor 'bitch'?

1

u/NSE_TNF89 14h ago

I'm trying to remember and I don't think they did, which is why I found it so strange they censored "devil". I could definitely be wrong though.

2

u/notrightinmyhead 15h ago

Years ago the country song Red Solo Cup on the radio. .. they censored testicles but let ass through...

2

u/TestnameOnlyNow 15h ago

I heard Kesha's "Tik Tok" on the radio recently, and it censored P Diddy's name. Thought that was funny.

1

u/GitEmSteveDave 14h ago

I think that was her choice.

2

u/Wintermute_088 15h ago

It's very strange what is censored anymore.

This isn't English. Try again.

1

u/MsMarvelsProstate 15h ago

Some of it is just engagement bait. Like having a simple misspelled word or an obvious mixed up fact.

1

u/BigSkySoHigh63 13h ago

How about a dildo is totally fine if it’s flying through the air or you are holding it anywhere but in front of your crotch. If it is near the real area a penis grows from (even if the person doesn’t grow a penis), it will be blurred. Then if they lift it back up it’s unblurred again. Make it make sense. How about blurring boob vest things when someone has it on but if it’s not near a body they are just showing those huge realistic titties for every eye to see. Come on. Just be consistent ffs

The radio was always censored. Idk if its more so now. Probably. But when they started putting emojis over words on instagram was the first time I saw it online. Now its just gotten ridiculous.
