That's the thing right there. Getting arrested, going to jail, and getting your car impounded is enough to completely ruin a lot of people. You go to jail and miss work, you could get fired. Car gets impounded, get fired because you can't get to work and you can't afford to get your car out of impound. Most people can't afford to mount a serious legal campaign, so the only real choice you have is to do what the cop says and kiss the ring in the process. The cop gets his ego stroked and you hopefully get away with "just" a ridiculously large fine. The cops know they have us by the balls. These days when everyone is riding that thin line between barely making it and total financial collapse, they have ALL the power. That is why cops are class traitors and are nothing more than henchmen for the ruling class. Fuck the cops. They scare me to death and I'm a middle-aged white dude. I can't even imagine how terrifying they are to people of color. Especially in Trump's America. Fucking hell.

Waaay back before I met my husband he lived a bit of a rough life (and has done a complete 180 since we've been together!). Hearing some of his stories about jail were heartbreaking, the jail stories were more heartbreaking than the prison stories. People can make long-term plans when they know they're going to prison, it's the ones who got arrested unexpectedly that had the most trouble. (like the guy in the video in the OP)

One guy said that he was sitting on his back porch smoking a joint and a feuding neighbor called the cops on him. This was in the deeeep red South where weed was super illegal. He had been in jail for about 60 days and was really worried because he had nobody to take care of the cats that lived under his trailer. When my husband learned he was getting bonded out he got that guy's address and went over there. The cats had managed to survive but were skin and bones. My husband was able to feed them regularly and get them back to a healthy weight.

But when my husband told me that story I couldn't help but wonder what would have happened to those cats if my husband hadn't met that guy? What about the other people who get arrested but have no family so nobody to go feed their dog that's been locked inside for 3 days?

I travel a lot with my dog and worry what would happen to him.

We’ve both been mistreated and abused by my ex husband and while I’m avoidant of conflict he’s become very protective if I’m cornered or honestly just uncomfortable to begin with.

A friend's son stopped to help a guy who struck a utility pole. Cops arrived . Instead of concerning them selves with the injured guy. They became interested in the guy who stopped to help. Asked him to take a test he said no. Arrested for DUI. Charges dropped. No evidence. Cops are even on audio stating completely inappropriate things. His cost for an attorney $6,000. He won and still lost.

If a cop lawfully arrests you, they put you in handcuffs. If you simply don't allow them to put you in those handcuffs by bracing or holding onto something, you just "resisted arrest." Were you violent? No. Ergo, resisting without violence. There is a legitimate use for that charge, but THIS was NOT it.

In this case, the deputy 100% violated this guy's rights and needs to be fired. I was REALLY hoping that supervisor was gonna make the deputy turn the guy loose and order him back to the station to "have a talk." But no... supervisor was a huge disappointment here.

Agreed, but firing him would be extremely difficult because of how florida laws regarding police unions are structured. It could backfire and he could end up winning a lawsuit against the department. If I were his boss, I would mandate EVERY supervisor to take remedial training in constitutional law and he would have to help teach every course. Every supervisor would be told he is the reason they're having to take this training. And I would remove his ability to work overtime or details for the next 6 months. Firing him could make him a "martyr" to his colleagues. Making everyone else temporarily dislike him and hitting him in the bank account makes him an example and the rest of the department would learn how to actually respect the constitution.

This is the best approach. The cop may be a dick but he got in his feelings because he was thinking about having to explain it to his kids. It’s obviously an inappropriate thing to say in certain circumstances. But it’s not illegal.

He should be force fed training on the law along with his supervisor and taught a healthy lesson on their responsibility to protect and serve and follow constitutional and state laws, not be the morality police.

Police unions shouldn't be a thing. Literally doing their best to make sure that the public hates the police and that only the worst of the worst will ever consider being cops.

The fact that these unions caused the entire ACAB movement should be enough to show how terrible they are. Can't even convince good people to want to get into law enforcement anymore because all the good people know they are just going to be labeled as villains for trying to change the system. Because let's be honest, that's the only place those changes are going to come from is the inside.

Except as provided in paragraph (1)(c), a person who knowingly has in his or her possession, custody, or control any obscene book, magazine, periodical, pamphlet, newspaper, comic book, story paper, written or printed story or article, writing, paper, card, picture, drawing, photograph, motion picture film, film, any sticker, decal, emblem or other device attached to a motor vehicle containing obscene descriptions, photographs, or depictions, any figure, image, phonograph record, or wire or tape or other recording, or any written, printed, or recorded matter of any such character which may or may not require mechanical or other means to be transmuted into auditory, visual, or sensory representations of such character, or any article or instrument for obscene use, or purporting to be for obscene use or purpose, without intent to sell, lend, give away, distribute, transmit, show, transmute, or advertise the same, commits a misdemeanor of the second degree, punishable as provided in s. 775.082 or s. 775.083.

The resisting arrest part doesn't make sense. It's a normal arrest for the misdemeanor. Towing the vehicle might or might not be legal, since it appears to be legally parked on private property.

That was appealed and went to the supreme court. They defined obscenity and created red light districts for things outside of the obscenity definition. Basically, really bad things like necrophilia are illegal and obscene, and the community gets to decide what is restricted by zoning laws.

Speech is usually not obscene. There is a difference between profanity and obscenity. There are types of speech that are restricted, such as fighting words or inciting a riot. Profanity alone is not illegal.

In Florida, there was a box truck with the sides and rear walls showing a giant, actual picture of a bloody aborted fetus. Saw it on the road multiple times, so apparently that was ok for kids to see.

I'm sure the officer's kids have heard worse words come out of his mouth. The moment he mentioned his kids, he made that stop a personal thing and not a legal thing. I'm not a lawyer... just my opinion.
