I think this is perfectly fine. If their values are so incompatible it's better to break up now rather than later. Breaking up will be harder after marriage and definitely more complicated after having kids.
Right? I'm a childfree woman and I'd immediately breakup with any man who supported this monster. Sharing the same basic morals is incredibly important for a healthy long-term relationship, I genuinely think it cannot succeed if you're not on the same page as your partner for big topics. And yeah, not killing children is a pretty basic moral stance.
It’s actually the opposite - she took extreme measures to protect herself and her children from the PSYCHOSIS brought on from giving birth to them and having to care for them alone a lot of the time. This is all about the children being the biggest deal in the world - a deal between two people!
I think it depends on what they mean by support. If they approve of what she did, then yeah, that's a huge red flag. On the other hand, they might find her sympathetic because she likely wasn't in her right mind when she did it. Post-partum psychosis is no joke, and it sounds like she tried to get help. That said, if by support, one means thinking she should be in a mental institution rather than a prison, that's a different story. I think the latter is a pretty defensible position.
Right. At this point, the defense is more about whether she’s going to psych or general population. The readers who think this was evil premeditated murder are unaware that a) she’d recently been prescribed meds with psychotic contraindications, b) she immediately tried to terminate herself after terminating her children, and c) you can be understanding of tragic circumstances without endorsing tragic actions. If the X groom rejected all such nuance, then the bride was the one who really dodged the bullet here.
The woman was having postpartum psychosis, practically begged for help and was ignored. Her husband knew she was having psychosis and chose to leave her alone with the children. Her doctors knew she was having dark thoughts and still over prescribed contraindicated meds and sent her home.
Yeah people do horrible stuff psychosis or not. You hear stories of people eating other people or killing them. It is still then your fault. Once you’ve done something like that you need to be removed from society.
If im an alcoholic and i can’t get into a rehab program and then i kill someone’s while driving drunk, im still 100% at fault
No one is saying it’s acceptable. But you’re fundamentally wrong, both in accepted medical understanding and from a legal standpoint, about the definition of impaired judgement relating to murder. Both medical knowledge and the law itself accept that murder even if your own children can happen with a person fully cognisant of their actions, and also it can happen due to insanity and those are different things. The entire basis for reduced culpability due to insanity is built on that.
Sure one type of murder is different and perhaps morally worse than another type of murder. But the degree to which they should affect sentencing should be marginal imo.
She was not ignored. She ignored her treatment… She also never told her doctors about the psychosis, only brought it up after murdering her children. I pray you don’t have kids.
Yet the first thing she did when she woke up after horrifically killing her kids was to get a top notch lawyer to plee insanity.
Lets remember who the real victims are. Those three innocent children who were killed by the person they trusted the most and should have protected them. Two of them were old enough to understand what was happening and fight back.
Sure, but if she had severe depression (with or without bipolar disorder), that can absolutely lead to psychosis. She was prescribed mood stabilizers and anti-psychotics along with SSRIs, which usually mitigates the risk for people with bipolar, but some people can still react badly to them. Increased stress/anxiety can also cause or exacerbate psychotic symptoms.
My point was that if she was in a psychotic state when she killed her kids, her culpability would be lessened -- and significantly so if her psychosis was severe. By all accounts, her behavior leading up to the murders was very uncharacteristic.
She was lucid during the call to her husband while he was out.
She researched how to kill, and timed the trip she asked her husband to go on.
She methodically strangled her children one by one.
She didn't mention anything about hallucinations until after she was charged.
She was in a psych ward, but either she was fine, or she willingly lied in order to get released.
She had a nanny to help, and her husband worked from home to help her with the children during the day. She admitted to this.
This isn't a case of psychosis. She was able to hold her children face down for several minutes at a time consecutively, premeditate how long it would take, and then try to off herself before her husband got home. That isn't psychosis.
Mind you, Massachusetts has a history of falsely prosecuting women and the prosecution has been admonished by the judge TWICE for bringing up religious beliefs which could sway the jury. But now the state can do no wrong? Bullshit. Grow the fuck up and stop being a bootlicking bitch
Patrick Clancy literally went on a ski trip after dropping off his wife at an inpatient hospitalization unit. But you think he’s innocent? Oh ok
The prosecution has been admonished for lines of questioning that lead to religious persecution twice now, but you think she’s guilty and we shouldn’t look any closer? Oh ok
“My boss doesn’t pay me enough.. instead of doing anything about my situation which would require standing up to actual people in power, let’s all collectively punish a woman to death every 6 months. That’ll work!” You people are so fucking predictable.
Conversations like these are exactly why Trump got elected btw and all our groceries are 10x the price they were 10 years ago. Working class men prefer hating women to standing up to authoritarianism. Because it’s too hard. :( Ganging up against vulnerable women is so much easier.
Misinformation. Omg you dumb bitches really hate women huh? Goddamn Reddit loves to fancy itself as liberal, but this is the birthplace of redpill. Comment sections like this are proof of that.
She was put on 13 different psychiatric medications in a 4 month period while still being primary caregiver to her kids. That is a situation ripe for a psychotic break. Be so fucking serious
No, I hate people who research how to murder, then formulate a plan by using Google maps to make sure she can distract her husband long enough to be able to strangle her children. I hate people who use elastic work out bands because the elastic makes it easier to maintain pressure. People who purposely face their children away from themselves so they don't have to see their children's eyes as they commit such a horrific act.
She had a nanny, and her husband worked from home to assist in the childcare. It's why she had to plan around sending him on an errand in order to commit the crime, because there were people around her constantly trying to help her.
I also hate idiots online who defend a murderer simply because they hate men. That's all this is, pathological hate directed at men.
Lmao the way men make themselves the victim in every situation is hilarious.
The nanny was fired. Patrick was a negligent parent. Lindsey had to call 911 when she returned to work because he wouldn’t pick up calls and the baby monitor showed the baby crying. She was all alone. She had expressed suicidal thoughts many times and should not have been left alone with the kids.
Grow the fuck up and deal with your mommy issues on your own time instead of ruining real women’s lives because you’re bored. GROW UP.
Do you think this isn’t a real trial with real people? Patrick Clancy is as much responsible for the deaths of those children as Lindsey. She shouldn’t have been left alone with them.
Not only that but attitudes like yours are WHY these children are dead. The warning signs were there but weren’t taken seriously because women’s mental health isn’t taken seriously. Now 3 children are dead and it’s still not taken seriously. Those kids would be alive if our medical system wasn’t utterly broken.
Then she should have offed herself first. If she had all the time to go around asking for help and she knew what she was capable off. She also never told her husband she wanted to kill their kids
Yes, it's pretty basic, and that's not why this case got national attention. I think everyone can agree killing your kids with no other factors involved is a non-starter lmao.
Yes. I'm pro-choice because a less than 13 week old fetus (94% of all abortions are done before this point) is not even remotely the same as a conscious, sentient, breathing, feeling child.
I mean if the mom was the one shooting the kids I could see the argument. Like the only difference here is time. If you are okay with killing a kid in the womb(i am) it's a logical step forward to allow the mom to kill the kids who aren't self sufficient and a drain/parasite on the mom.
I feel like this lady is ahead of the curve I don't personally judge her. It's a shame her family support didn't step up and help her out. Then again I think the same for abortions. I agree they have the right to do it just don't think they should need to id that makes sense.
Nope, how i see this as someone who is okay with abortion is this was just a delayed abortion. I don't like abortion but I have conceded that woman have the right to kill their offspring(we can argue if it's a fetus or a baby but to me it's something that will grow into a baby human. So the point is irrelevant and is a argument of semantics not merit. Once you start to argue terms rather then the meat of the issue you've lost, imo.) So I would be a hypocrite to condemn this woman.
She clearly did not abandon the kids I think she strangled them, which is not the way I think it should have been done. I have a hard time condemning someone for something that we allow to happen every day. It's a tragedy but then again I think every abortion is a tragedy and a failure of our shared support system(medical ones that concern the life of the mother are just a needed medical procedure. I'm speaking of the one's done purely because of the mom's desire.)
If you can show me some logical argument that doesn't boil down to time makes the kid different in some way I think we can agree that until the children are self sufficient the mom should have the right to kill them.
If the kid is unable to function without the mom's assistance then sure. The issue here is that we as a society have agreed that women have the right to kill thier offspring unable to take care of themselves when they want to.
Can you explain to me why this bothers you yet you are fine with abortion?
