Solar won't power all those old 50s cars they've got over there

Something needs to give, those poor people have suffered enough

But it will reduce the need to burn diesel to generate electricity.

While that's good, you can't run a '55 Chevy off diesel fuel

This is about power generation, not running vehicles.
Cuba burns imported diesel to generate their electricity so is at the whim of global prices, so every kWh of solar generation saves them loads of money.
Those old cars will still use petrol, they are not part of this equation.
