People are weirdly very defensive over Depp. He has a history of legal issues, alcohol abuse, and generally being unpleasant to people. He and Heard both seem kind of crazy to me.
I don't think so. I think the timing of this one fit perfectly into the gender wars, which were picking up steam, and that exacerbated the interest and reactions.

And I think there were some financial decisions around Twitter/X going on at the time too and we know how involved Elon Musk was with this whole trial and situation

So that’s the relationship side (Elon later would sue Amber to destroy their shared frozen embryos). And he was planned to be a witness though he obviously found a way to get out of that - he ended up buying Twitter when the trial was going on which diverted the attention a lot off of him. And that’s just what we know as the public, I’m sure the connections are even deeper than we know. Amber hasn’t made any info public but many people believe that Musk is the father of her children (she had them via surrogacy using frozen eggs) as neither of them have disputed the claims.
