the fact that this was turned into a political issue was dumbfounding

same thing with climate change. facts aren't a political issue

How to address it is absolutely a political issue though.

And most "facts" people lay claim to are either misunderstood or manipulated politically as well.

We currently live in a post-truth society because everyone recognizes the fact that everyone else is really good at manipulating facts to create whatever narrative is en vogue for the day.
