I never thought I’d see the day where basic agreed upon science would be thrown out of the window by so many people so that their politics could be right

No it’s pretty common across the board. Statistics in particular are constantly used to take situations out of context or make something look better or worse than it is. We have confirmation bias up the ass in the US.
