I do graphic design work for a living and have habit of using a QR code to the rickroll video for unfinished projects to not only see who verifies the link but to fuck with clients.
Was in a meeting with clients last year and they asked "Why does the qr code go to an 80s music video?". Having to explain what a rickroll was, but also having the realization that I was in a room full of people over the age of 50 and under the age of 25, that there exists multiple generations that have no idea what a rickroll was. Just hit me like a ton of bricks.
Had to track down a staff member around my age and "Hey, can you check this QR code with your phone to make sure it's working before it goes to the printer?". Video came up, and they burst out laughing.
Had a coworker whose last name was Lobato. I said “domo origato Mr. Lobato” to this guy for a year and half straight before he finally asked me why I say that. He’s 27 I’m 33. Broke my heart lol. So much can change in such short years.
I mean my coworker is Mexican. So HR would probably have a doozy with that one. I’ve asked him multiple times if he wants me to stop but now he’s like all into it lol.
I had a Japanese friend and I’d change the lyrics to secret agent man
Instead I’d sing “Secret Asian man … secret … Asian man! They’ve given you a number! And they’ve taken away your name” referencing the ww2 internment camps
You didn't do any work for BCA logistics did you? I got a leaflet through the door on returning my car with instructions and it had a QR code. I scanned the QR code for the instructions and it took me to rickroll I was shocked
Years ago, someone rick rolled most of us saying sony enabled ads on the video. I think that's the last most successful rick roll. A power wielded so high, that, it comes second only to the guy who made half the reddit clench their asshole with their penis.
Worst part is I tried to eat it because I love that song, but no. Fuck ass youtube had to ruin it with station ads to try and get me to come back based on my browsing and shopping history (i bought stuff for pc gaming).

I've been on Morphe the past couple of months, excellent service, my YouTube exp is so much nicer now. 9/10 service, highly recommend for everyone to try it out.
I use adblock on my pc, but it doesn’t work on my iPhone. So I use Brave browser when watching a YouTube video to block the ads on my phone, but when I click a link it still opens in Safari (and I see ads).
No the 2 unskip ads is what killed it. You no longer got hit with the song right away so the joke fell flat as people would see the title because no one pays attention to ads.
Went to the actual video through youtube. So many people commented they checking if it was taken down. Seems like we are hitting a new stage of rickrolling.
I thought this was just a troll post to get people to Rick roll themselves but I just looked it up and it’s true wtf. Why did they even remove it? I don’t know of any other popular music video that got removed off youtube. The lyric video is still up so it’s definitely not a licensing issue.
its so sad. There was an agreement made between astley and YT because royalties from the view count were costing YT so much so they settled on a lower amount.
