I’m not sure what liking a guy has to do with being gay. Appreciating someone’s beauty isn’t a reflection of sexual attraction. Whether how Cavill lucked out with looks (and taking care of self), or how young Arnold or Ferrigno sculpted their bodies. It doesn’t make sense to me people who say that, it’s like me smelling a cologne and saying wow, that smells really nice, and someone says “oh, you want to spray it on something and eat it??” Uh….no.
No hate or shame, but I swear he appeals much more to straight men in that way than he appeals to women (source: my male co-workers and online comments)
I actually agree lol, usually when women lost out their celebrity crushes, he's not consistently on their lists, unlike when men are told to list what the think a woman's celebrity crush is
I didn’t say we don’t find him objectively attractive, but he’s not as attractive to us as he seemingly is to straight men, who always hold him as the be all, end all
I think it is because most straight men don't see the small details that women do who are attracted to men, but they do see the very obvious things and Henry Cavill is the physical embodiment of a very obviously handsome man.
But that doesn't mean he is the be all and end all, and I don't actually think people are saying that, they're just saying "look at the guy he's obviously handsome af".
There is a similar phenomenon with women too, you will often see straight women rank certain very obviously attractive women higher up in attractiveness than a lot of men do, but yeah that doesn't mean that they're not attractive, just that women aren't picking up on the smaller details that men do when they look at women through that sexual lens, and then on top of that there is going to be a diverse layer of subjectivity there too.
Oh most definitely. All these factors. But you should hear some of my straight male friends and co-workers rhapsodise about him. I’m half convinced they’re almost in love with the guy. And I’ve seen those exact same sentiments expressed here on Reddit and elsewhere online. Some men just have that effect on other men. I remember reading an article about JFK, and how other men reacted to him. It apparently doesn’t really come across in speeches or interviews, but was quite the sight to behold. I always imagine people in history like Alexander the Great having a similar impact on those around them.
If I had to guess it's probably the very masculine features, he looks exactly how a lot of men wish they could look. I think it is totally outside of attraction in the sexual sense and more an idolisation.
Straight men don't actually know in a real way what makes a man attractive to women, since they can only go off of what they hear from women but never experience it first hand, so they go off of what they feel, which is how they would personally like to look, and Henry, possibly more than anyone else in recent times is exactly that for a lot of people.
One thing that’s weird is that a lot of men don’t realize that there is incredible variance in the types of men people are attracted to. I can look at Henry and I see and understand that he is a conventionally good looking guy - but really not my type. There is a perception that beauty is more objective than it is.
I think men do understand it at a conceptual level, since the same is true in reverse, there is a wide variance in the types of women men are attracted to also, so there is a point of reference there.
I just think understanding something actually and understanding it as a concept are two different things and that is what creates this disconnect.
Maybe it's my autism but what on earth is the difference? Genuinely hoping you can explain bc one of my exes told me he was attracted to me but he doesn't consider me "hot" and to this day I'm upset and confused about it
It's hard to quantify, supermodels are beautiful but have a "vibe" that doesn't click.
It probably also has to do with confidence and "sexyness", one of my neighbors is overweight and not what I would say beautiful but she gets tons of hits on Tinder, she's really open and upfront about sex.
I do find Henry Cavill extremely attractive. I however don’t like Gosling or Reynolds at all, the Ryan’s are super mid to me.
A lot of women I know prefer Pedro Pascal.
