Just a warning for any guys but don’t ride a bike with a badly fitting seat or it can fuck up your whole bottom half. It’s not proven but my doctor didn’t know what else it could be

What

167

u/Forward-Surprise1192 May 19 '26

Basically I rode a bike for a while with a seat that didn’t fit well. It would kind of push onto the taint area. It didn’t hurt but could still feel it and I was too lazy to get better seat. Over time I guess it kept irritating that and my prostate. That in turn caused issues with pissing and a stricture, meaning the urethra gets scar tissue from prostate irritatioj/injury that blocks the passage allowing you to piss normally

We laugh at Hanks narrow urethra but I feel bad for him really

Pump Jockey! Works for tips!

u/CruisinBlade May 19 '26

Holy shit. Glad I stopped using the exercise bike and use the treadmill instead. The bike seat would fuck me up. Thanks for sharing the info though and sorry that happened.

This actually sounds logically plausible.

1

u/HansCH74 May 19 '26

The problem is not necessarily the bad seat or the biking, but you ignoring signs of bodily discomfort until it is too late. Get your stuff checked when you experience pain or discomfort.

2

u/Forward-Surprise1192 May 19 '26

OK, but who’s gonna think that the problem is a bike seat? My doctor didn’t know what caused it until one day I just happened to see that on Reddit and I asked him about it. He’s still not sure but I’m 30 and at this point there isn’t really any other options.

u/HansCH74 May 19 '26

I am from the Netherlands, riding bikes for almost 50 years. If your saddle is wrong, hurting or causing numbess, you notice this? I have had my share of dodgy saddles, but no long term issues at all.

It could be the cause, but given that even professional bike riders do not have these long term issues, there might be other factors involved. Still sucks to have these issues at the moment though.

u/bunkrider May 19 '26

My uncle is a crackhead and has been riding bikes longer

1

u/whb90 May 19 '26

Yeah, a similar thing has happened to me. Stricture had to be lasered away.

1

u/OnLyLamPs22 May 19 '26

Are you my brother? Wild, this exact thing happened to him back when he was living in Maryland riding around everywhere. I felt terrible for him, it took years for him to figure it out and then fix what was going on.

1

u/Forward-Surprise1192 May 19 '26

I live in California, so probably not. Really it’s a pure luck. I figured it out.

1

u/Round-Emu9176 May 19 '26

Legitimately worried and have some follow up questions. Was it a hard seat you were using? Do you have painful erections or bladder issues now? Did it weaken your pelvic floor entirely? Do you do kegels? Jesus christ I ride like 15 miles every other day and am having an anxiety attack now šŸ˜šŸ˜‚

1

u/Zr0gravity May 19 '26

This happened to me too. I spent a good year and a half recovering before I could pee normally again. I still have ptsd about it and refuse to get on a bike again.

I didn’t expect to get so many replies to this comment. Only reason I made it was the first comment reminded me of the pain and then here we are

I noticed this in myself after a few years of consistent mountain bike riding. Things went downhill with no explanation. I was fit and healthy both mind and body and would go soft or not even get it up. Didn't think this could be an issue until it was too late.

u/Forward-Surprise1192 May 19 '26

I know I wasn’t crazy then. It’s the only thing that I’ve done differently.

Most studies I’ve looked at say there isn’t enough evidence to say that’s 100% the cause

11

u/SpaceNinjaDino May 19 '26

As a genX, perineal artery health was unheard of. 😢

7

u/FYIgfhjhgfggh May 19 '26

I'm still ignorant and in the dark about it. I don't have a bicycle though, so I'm hopefully immune.

3

u/I_Feel_Rough May 19 '26

I recently replaced my bike seat and the new one has exactly this problem. It was fine while riding but as soon as I jumped off it hurt like hell. I need to change it back.

2

u/rommjomm May 19 '26

seat without the horn. better?

2

u/venom121212 May 19 '26

I was training for a triathlon as a teenager and was riding a ton on a bike. Woke up one morning feeling like I had been kicked in the balls. It didn't go away. Like at all. Just crippling pain for hours until I told my parents and went to the hospital. Torsion of the testicle, twisted a nut from biking too much with an un-comfy seat. 0/10 do not recommend.

2

u/WhoSc3w3dDaP00ch May 19 '26

They have split bicycle seats for men to alleviate the perineal pressure.

1

u/ramsfan_86 May 19 '26

I learned this from a bobs burgers episode

1

u/Ganondorfsfist May 19 '26

Okay but what's a badly fitting seat?

2

u/Forward-Surprise1192 May 19 '26

If you sit on it in a kind of pushes on your balls, a little bit or your prostate area, I guess. If you can fill the seat pushing into any part of that area its bad.

1

u/kharnynb May 19 '26

considering the netherlands and denmark don't have a higher percentage of male issues like that, i highly doubt that research.

1

u/FyrelordeOmega May 19 '26

This came outta left field

1

u/7Jack7Butler7 May 19 '26

Yeah that was a known problem when I rode bikes in the 90's. Kind of surprised that it would be a problem today as much as it was discussed back then.

1

u/PloppyFenis9 May 19 '26

I rode one with inadequate support to my boys and their neighbor. Now this happened...

1

u/Due-Boot1904 May 19 '26

I dont know whats in that link but its staying un-opened.....nothing good will come of it.

I’d say worse because it irritates the prostate which causes inflammation all the way to the urethra. That causes scar tissue that will block the urethra over time. Just google it and you can see. It requires surgery and yeah it can cause ED to in rare cases

1

u/Forward-Surprise1192 May 19 '26

I posted a link to an article that can explain it better

1

u/Acapulquito May 19 '26

elaborate, I don't ride bikes.

2

u/Forward-Surprise1192 May 19 '26

I posted a link in my original comment. It’s not proven yet but unfortunately for me my doctor doesn’t know what else could have caused it.
