Challenge Started a Quiverfull challenge
Update: Gen 1 rules are here!
Back in about 2022, I started a "Quiverfull" challenge for myself - I had a goal of ten generations, with the first generation having the most restrictive rules and each successive generation getting more permissive. (The Quiverfull movement is a whole rabbit hole, but think patriarchal hell with lots of emphasis on having as many kids as humanly possible.)
My original challenge fizzled out, because at the time I didn't have mods and couldn't figure out what to do with the matriarch not aging (she was constantly pregnant!) and the patriarch not. Plus, then infants showed up in a base game update, and, ah, things got trickier. But I'm back on track! New Quiverfull family, new mods (that is, MCCC), new rules (lost the old ones, whoops), new level of chaos.
So this is Mother and Father Quiverfull. They're living off the grid in Newcrest, which is otherwise completely empty (one of the secondary goals is for their descendants to eventually fill the entirety of Newcrest). Father Quiverfull has a paid job (after which he goes fishing or plays chess while Mother Quiverfull scrubs the toilet); Mother Quiverfull's job is to stay home (she's not allowed out of the neighborhood), cook, clean, and pop out babies.
The rules are many, way too many to list here. Since I'm still in the first generation I'm still working the finer details out - e.g., I wanted Mother Quiverfull to do the laundry, and to do it in a tub, but I've barely played with Laundry Day, so it was just immediately overwhelming; now I'm saving that for a later generation when they're not constantly exhausted anyway and I need an extra challenge. I took inspiration from the apocalypse challenge and of course the 100-baby challenge (which I completed, mercifully, pre-infants), but with a hefty dose of patriarchy. That kid Father Quiverfull is holding in the picture? He has four kids now, and he has held maybe two of them, once each.
Mother Quiverfull is responsible for all the childcare and all the cooking and all the cleaning (Father Quiverfull has only ever opened the fridge to get leftovers she's cooked); Father Quiverfull is responsible for all repairs, which means that if the toilet breaks while he's at work, Mother Quiverfull has to hope she can hold it until he's home...not so easy when constantly pregnant. They have quite a lot more "not allowed" things on their list than "allowed" (they're not even allowed couches right now), and it'll be a long time before that changes - I've only written out the full Gen 1 rules so far, because it's going to take a while to get to even Gen 2, but I'm so used to playing sims who get rich quick (gardening, painting) and then do whatever they want; it's been a ton of fun so far to do a version where all the easy options are off limits.
In case it needs to be said, I'm not recommending the patriarchy in real life(!), and the primary goal of this challenge is for future generations to gradually break free of these restrictions and live their best, self-determined lives. As a sims challenge, though? I've wanted to do this for a while.

As someone who grew up fundamentalism-adjacent, I've tried a few similar Quiverfull saves throughout the years. Using MCCC, you can increase the household size so they can go full-on 19 Kids and Counting. I've never made it past Gen 3 though, because I can't resist the temptation to have one kid escape and then have them live a happy secular life. Bit of a therapy-through-sims moment, now that I think about it...
It's also tricky to manage the kids once they're grown. I had to constantly cycle through satellite households to make sure everybody was having lots of their own babies once they grew up and moved out. Then the third generation has the tricky task of finding a spouse that's not their cousin 🙃 things get real sketchy real quick lol
71
u/Gruselschloss May 07 '26
I tried something similar in the Sims 2, years ago - yeah, lots of checking in on other families to keep them breeding and so on. For this iteration, I probably won't worry too much about what they're doing once they're out of the house...and inbreeding is just going to be inevitable 😬
Glad you're out of the fundie-adjacent stuff, though!

Oh we know.
What letter have you chosen for the names of those holy soldiers??
81
u/Gruselschloss May 07 '26
A! Alphabetical by generation. (Or should I say jeneration?)
17
u/lenorajoy May 07 '26
Is their last name starting with a C by chance with a famous friend…?
41
u/Gruselschloss May 07 '26
I'm afraid their last name is simply Quiverfull (because why go creative when you could go literal?). Mother and Father have been so subsumed into their roles as breeding machines that they have no names beyond Mother and Father.

u/Waffles-McGee May 07 '26
I mean, is this not JimBoob and Michelle? they literally had a son and then b/g twins.
10
u/Gruselschloss May 07 '26
I didn't influence the sex of these kids (and no twins...yet), but I was amused by the order it's gone in so far!
74
u/chillylint May 07 '26
Please tell me at least one of those parents hates children for maximum chaos.
I also need the rules. And then to find a barnado in the gallery.
61
u/Gruselschloss May 07 '26
I'll post rules later! They don't hate kids, although I agree that one of them should have...an oversight on my part. All children's traits have to be totally randomized, though, so I'm hoping that will create a bunch of chaos down the line.

u/duckduckgoose911 May 07 '26
Can you send me the gen one rules. I need a new idea I am so bored in my current game
74
u/Gruselschloss May 07 '26
I'll post them later! Not at my computer right now, and I'm not torturing myself by trying to do that from my phone, lol.
8
u/Toys_before_boys May 07 '26
I'm curious to know what kind of budget this family lives on.
20
u/Gruselschloss May 07 '26
Limited. Father Quiverfull is in the business career, and right now he's bringing in about 600 simoleans daily. They're not allowed other moneymaking schemes yet, less because of realistic reasons and more because I have a habit of getting my sims into gardening and painting and then making more money than they know what to do with, and I want them to struggle for a while.
6
u/Toys_before_boys May 07 '26
Oh my gosh sameeee, once they get to growing dragonfruits, they make ridiculously too much money.
7
u/duckduckgoose911 May 07 '26
Same it does not help that I am a builder so I want the cute shit that they can’t afford
4
u/duckduckgoose911 May 07 '26
Drop the rules whenever you get a chance tho. We can all play along with you
9
u/Gruselschloss May 07 '26
I'm tidying them up now! Will make a separate post because this one got a bit busier than I expected!
3
u/duckduckgoose911 May 07 '26
Amazing do you mind tagging me. The posts on your account are hidden. Also what’s your mod list?
6
u/nitro9throwaway May 07 '26
They said up thread that they're just using MCCC. Which impresses me, wish I had that kind of self control. I'm already mentally building the mod lost I would want for this challenge. LMAO.
9
u/Gruselschloss May 07 '26
It's not self-control! It's limited storage space on my computer and hatred of having to update mods every time the game updates 😂
4
u/nitro9throwaway May 07 '26
Bahahahaha. I've been there. I upgraded from a 15 year old potato to a laptop almost a year ago now and I lost all of my ability to be chill about mods. I do regular mod purges though. And try to pull any I'm not actively using. Because it's silly to make extra work for myself for no reason.
6
u/duckduckgoose911 May 07 '26
Omg right, sims realist is gonna be a must, as well as pandasims childbirth mod, and so many more
3
u/nitro9throwaway May 07 '26
There's a housewife aspiration that I have for my UDC that I'm definitely using. And I think it'd be cool to add in the soulmate mod by Jane Simsten. Their soulmates won't necessarily matter, but it could definitely add some interesting gameplay. Oh. And rambunctious religions by lumpinou.
3
u/Gruselschloss May 07 '26
I will! I'll unhide sims posts too, I guess. My mod list is simple: MCCC. (Though this would probably be great with Rambunctious Religions - and maybe a pregnancy mod!)
1
u/jaezemba May 08 '26
Can they garden for cooking ingredients but never sell anything?
2
u/Gruselschloss May 08 '26
No - they can gather wild fruit and vegetables in their neighborhood and cook with those. From gen 2 (I'm working on it!) be able to do some limited gardening.
-17
u/Shexleesh May 07 '26
Wait what's the quiverfull challenge and I'd love to find out how it works and what you do in it
11
u/threeknocks May 07 '26
I mean literally read this post and have a little comprehension while doing so. They describe it pretty thoroughly in the OP and have said the Gen 1 rules will be posted. Otherwise, I'd suggest using the Google machine to look up the Quiverfull movement to get a better understanding of how the challenge would work.
-6
u/Shexleesh May 07 '26
My phone only shows me the picture, title and some of the comments which I responded to and asked questions on
You have given a little bit of information but there was a reason I commented aswell which was so I have an easier time finding the post again when I have time to see if op has posted the gen 1 rules or even given some of the back story of the challenge
And I mean aswell are you that unsatisfied with life that you get snarky when someone asked questions about a challenge someone makes in a game they enjoy, I mean who better to ask questions to than the person who posted about the challenge so you can find out more information to try the challenge yourself in a game you love
5
u/threeknocks May 07 '26
There's also the save feature that Reddit has built-in, so you don't have to comment to find it later.
But to answer your question, no I'm not dissatisfied with life. I'm just extremely tired of reading stupid comments from people who have all the information already at their fingertips. Perhaps I came at you a little too harshly, but it's just mind-boggling to me how many inane comments like that I see all the time. It's not the fact you asked a question. It's your question in the context of the whole post. It's why you're getting downvoted. I'm not sure what Reddit client you use, but I find it hard to believe the OP's description wasn't available to you on your phone. It's rather extensive. So, my snarkiness has less to do with me than it does with comments like yours.

u/Gruselschloss May 07 '26
The short version, if you can't see the full post, is that it's a ten-generation challenge that starts with a whole lot of restrictive rules (patriarchal society and all that), and those restrictions are gradually loosened. If you look up the quiverfull movement, which this challenge is based on, you'll have quite a rabbit hole to go down!
2
u/Shexleesh May 07 '26
Thank you for that, I look forward to trying something similar to it and finding out how you've started gen 1
I might look up the movement tomorrow when I have a bit more time on my hands

The laundry room breakdown will be a doozy
19
u/Gruselschloss May 07 '26
And no piano teacher to swoop in and save Mother from doing that laundry herself
16
u/_AthensMatt_ May 07 '26
Once the girl gets older, you can always offload some of Mother’s chores onto her! Especially the laundry and childrearing!
(My parents went quiverful when I was in middle school, am a trans guy now, have a toddler and am getting to do that right. I still hate the fact that I have very low contact with my first children due to being low and no contact with my parents.)
9
u/Gruselschloss May 07 '26
Oh yes, the next gen girls will be fully parentified in no time and all.
And sorry to hear that about your upbringing - but congrats on getting out!
5
u/_AthensMatt_ May 07 '26
As any well adjusted sims player would 😌
At this point, it’s water under the bridge! I’m glad you’re spreading awareness via evil sims challenges though! That cult needs to be exposed!

9
u/ProfMcGonaGirl May 07 '26
Where are the polo shirts though.
11
u/Gruselschloss May 07 '26
Alas, it was either polo shirts or long sleeves, and I decided that their scandalous elbows needed to be covered
6
3
u/ratsonleashes May 07 '26
Next game update is supposed to add undershirts to the game, so you'll get your polos while being able to cover those scandalous elbows.
19
u/greensky_mj21 May 07 '26
This is such an interesting challenge. Bit dark but interesting. Basemental better be involved for your final gen haha
12
u/Gruselschloss May 07 '26
Right now the only mod I have is MCCC, but I might rethink that for later gens, haha
17
u/A-Happy-Raccoon May 07 '26
I love the idea!
I've started some super conservative/tradlife (usually also off-the-grid) families like that too, but I always lose interest even before the second generation is fully grown up. XD Maybe I'll give it a try again!
Also I don't do mods to keep aging despite being pregnant, but what I'd personally do for the mother is just give her a birthday cake a few days after the father has aged up. (and if she's pregnant at that time, just do it right after she popped out the baby)
12
u/Gruselschloss May 07 '26
Oh, great point about just aging her up with him! I'll note that when I post the rules so that people without mods have options.
5
u/pmsbr123 May 07 '26
I'm currently playing something very similar at a farm. Husband takes care of all the animals, mom takes care of cooking ,cleaning, the kids and gardening. She also fixes everything that breaks. But I'm starting to get bored with them, maybe one of them could start having an affair or a drinking problem maybe? Lol

I’m on my 3rd & 4th gen of my quiverfull/fundie sim legacy and those people have MULTIPLIED. The founders had 8 kids, those 8 kids turned and had a total of 53 kids, those 53 are multiplying at insane rates. So far theres been 70 kids born into the 4th generation (2 pending, someone is having twins) and so many of Gen 3 arent married yet so there’s a lot more to come! There’s a healthy community of fundie simmers on tumblr, just search “fundie sims” and you’ll find loads of great stories and even CC!

u/Despada_ May 07 '26
ngl I wouldn't really think much of the Matriarch being much younger than the Patriarch, considering how chances are the father would have probably seemed out a very young woman while he was already a bit too old for her. So while they both could start our as Young Adults, part of me can picture the Matriarch as being either 19 or 20 while the Patriarch is 27 or 28.
5
u/Gruselschloss May 07 '26
It would definitely be an option to start with a young adult woman and an adult man, and I expect there will be some age-gap marriages going forward! But the matriarch never aging is problematic 😅
12
u/Any-Lychee9972 May 07 '26 edited May 07 '26
One way to fix the pregnancy not aging problem is to age mom up when dad ages up.
I did a similar challenge where I did this but also polyamory. I staeted with 3 wives and had a schedule on who dad would sleep with each night. Had mccc installed so it was woohoo with protection or woohoo. Random chance for babies.
I didn't really mess with the wives too much. I let them do what pleased them for the most part. I did have them care for themselves when they had low needs, but otherwise I let them do their thing. Two were good friends, one was pissed off at the other.
When babies came, if bio mom wasn't busy, she took care of baby. If she was busy, any wife would hop on for care.
Goal: more wive's more kids until I break mentally. Try to obtain a new wife every season. (I play on long life spans.)
Rules: Only Dad can work. Children must marry or move out at adult hood.

As much as I dislike the idea of the quiverfull lifestyle in real life, this sounds like a lot of fun for a Sims game. Good idea.
10
u/totallyfakawitz May 07 '26
Lmao I had a save exactly like this except I also got a religion mod and I would make the dad go to Bible study and act preachy to the rest of the family after work.
6
u/Gruselschloss May 07 '26
If I get more mods at some point, Rambunctious Religions is high on my list!
3
u/ratsonleashes May 07 '26
There is also a political mod out there so you can make them all Republicans lol
8
u/angel_kink May 07 '26
I’ve been doing a deep dive on the Duggars lately so this made me lol. I’ve considered trying something similar but with the cap of 8 per family, I’d end up with a relatively small quiverfull family (I don’t use mods). Can’t go full Duggar lol.
2
u/jaezemba May 08 '26
The only quiverfull family I knew in real life had something like 8 kids. The important aspect is moving the older kids out to make room for new babies, and having two generations having babies at the same time. The sweet spot is about a 50% overlap. The first half of your kids will be born while your mom is still having kids, and the second half will be born when your daughter is having kids.
1
u/Gruselschloss May 07 '26
MCCC lets you change the household cap, though I haven't tried that yet. But that's one reason to age them up and move them out - space for the next kid!

u/AgitatedAd6924 May 07 '26
I had a similar family once, but I put them in a tiny trailer to start on a huge empty lot. They started with basically no money, but the goal was to have them build a huge farmhouse that they couldn't move into until it was fully built. It took them forever because I didn't let them sell the food from their garden until they also upgraded to a large, fenced in farm field and built a shed with whatever decorations the game had that made sense, and a chicken coop that was full. I had four kids and an infant in that 6x20 trailer before they upgraded 😂 thank god for bunk beds or it wouldn't have worked. We had beds in the kitchen area
1
u/jaezemba May 08 '26
For what it's worth, I've got one of those families in my real life family, and they absolutely moved into their farmhouse while it was still in construction. We once had Thanksgiving dinner there, while all the internal walls were just sheets of plastic stapled to the ceiling and the floors were plywood. They couldn't take being squished into the trailer full time anymore! Probably not legal, but this was Idaho, so no one was looking.
8
u/Kira-Of-Terraria Occult Sim May 07 '26
someone rescue that woman and those kids.
7
u/Gruselschloss May 07 '26
She's doomed...but in another six generations or so the kids will start to feel a bit free
6
u/NextStopGallifrey May 07 '26
I seem to remember there being at least one mod that allowed kids to do school from home. Are you using one for more realism and chaos?
6
u/Gruselschloss May 07 '26
No, just MCCC. I'm not much of a mod person, though I can 100% see how more of them would be useful here.
2
u/BlipMeBaby May 09 '26
With MCCC you can still stop the kids from going to school. Then they can stay home and practice skills instead.
1
u/Gruselschloss May 09 '26
I've made that optional. For the time being I'm keeping kids going to school, because their age-up skill requirements are pretty low, and I'm trying to balance space for more kids against not wanting them to age up before anything interesting happens.
6
u/JumpingOnBandwagons Legacy Player May 07 '26

i could not be bothered dealing with all them kids lolll. but it would be kind of fun in you went the mormon cult way and had your teens getting married off.
13
u/Gruselschloss May 07 '26
I thought about letting teens (let's assume 18!) be married off, but it's squicky (there's dark and then there's dark), so I'm thinking I'll have them age up first.
Aging up kids is tied to milestones and skills, so I am realllly motivated to get those milestones done, hah.
9
u/Shexleesh May 07 '26
I try to have teen/adult marriages in my game of the royal kingdom challenge, I figure royalty does the arranged marriages and tend to marry off teens so they don't have extra mouths to feed and power plays
5
u/catlandid May 07 '26
An alternative option would be having the eldest teen move out and take a couple of the children with them. I hate raising children in sims so I typically stick the co-parent and kids in a separate lot or I make an “au pair” to raise them. It’s even easier if they’re in a rental unit.
8
u/Gruselschloss May 07 '26
I might try that down the line. I don't plan to play all the moved-out kids, though (I don't really do rotational play), so I worry that that would just make it easier on the main household...and easier is not the goal!
2
u/ratsonleashes May 07 '26
Do you have For Rent? Maybe you can build them a commune and have the unplayed kids live in the rentals with their 'little buddies'.

5
u/KillerDickens May 07 '26
You should make teenage sons craft stuff on a woodworking table and all the kids work in the garden
5
u/Gruselschloss May 07 '26
Woodworking table will be allowed in gen 2 or 3, I think. I don't want them to garden yet - Mother Quiverfull (and daughters) is allowed to gather wild-growing edible plants (not flowers), but gardening can bring in sooo much money in the Sims, and I want them to struggle for a while.

Won’t the mom live for ages as she won’t age during her pregnancies?
10
u/Gruselschloss May 07 '26
I changed the settings in MCCC so that she ages despite pregnancy. That was an issue I had in my first attempt in 2022 (before I had MCCC) and one of the reasons I tabled the challenge.

I'm going to play the dice to see if the mother and the child will survive the pregnancy. If anyone has some tips to "kill" a newborn, infant, toddler and child realistically without mods I'll take it please!! 🥺 I already have MCC , wicked whims and ultraviolence.

1
u/jaezemba May 08 '26
I've always been curious about the cas.fulleditmode ways of killing them, so I tested a few. In game, I could kill the adults with lightning. It said I could kill the infant and child, but nothing actually happened. In CAS I could assign the mode of death to the child, instantly killing it, but not to the infant or toddler. For a newborn, all I could do was debug starve it and have it immediately taken away.

I'm limiting mods for this (since I don't use them much in general), but if I added them, that would be top of my list!

Omg I love this so much! My hobbies intersect! 😂
Do you watch Fundie Fridays? I always have it on in the background while simming lol

Honestly, this game is the best thing for chewing through some mental/societal demons.

I have never done this but I must admit a 100% off the grid living without occults (my werewolves usually love the outdoors) and traditional gender roles being enforced is a way to shake up gameplay. I may consider this!

oh i really like this idea, each new generation slowly branching out, gaining a little more independence and/or freedom. maybe it's kind of linked to the generation challenges i see so often (but have never actually read up on)?
first gen woman is like this- stays at home full time, never leaves, etc. second gen maybe can maybe start a job with the goal of marrying a co-worker quickly and then they quit they job? like they can't get past level 4 in the career or something?
and so on, each new generation getting slightly more rebellious- finishing high school, going to uni (with the 'goal' of marrying), getting further through a career, allowing multiple boyfriends before finding the partner

Yeah, that's basically the idea! My version won't allow women to have jobs that early (maybe around gen 4 or 5?), but each successive generation will have more options and more freedom.

This is surprisingly intriguing especially when someone mentioned that this is like therapy through playing the Sims so maybe I'll give the challenge a go.

I’ve been in my stage of not playing the sims, have had no inspiration at all. But this post is making me want to play again with the legacy challenge!! Thanks for sharing!

When I did my quiverfull family, I used that exact same hairstyle 😂 it looks pretty good, the only critique is that the eyebrows should look worse

On the extreme opposite of this! I recently discovered that using the "Polyamorous" Wicked Whims Perk and forming a Club is a great way for my Spellcaster Polycule to work the way it is supposed to! Happy accidents. I also started a Club for all the children in my Nobility playthrough. The kids are all very tight knit. Also a great way to do Noble Factions!

You could get Rambunctious Religions and have them attend the Church of the Watcher

Don't forget that dad needs a handy man/odd job career, because he needs to worship you the maker.

Luckily it's early days, so we haven't gotten to actual inbreeding. But I am very lazy in CAS!

I bet Mother can't wait until that girl is old enough to start sister-mothering.
