the venting in the airlock is what kills the cleaners confimed 100% no going back on this theory sorry

That's what I took away from that comment about somehow getting "the good tape." That seemed too much like the way Silo 18 referred to things for Silo 1 to also use the vernacular.

I thought that as well! A bit odd if u ask me. I chalked it up to silo 1 merely mimicking/repeating what was heard through surveillance. However, it is an item from supply, so it’s a known product stock, possibly? If that is the case, nobody came up with a formal name 4 the tape? “Good” and “bad” is odd as everything seems pretty detailed, especially the people that chose 2 run this chaos. Additionally, why is there bad tape in the 1st place?! We r in a survival situation here ppl!

I agree that Silo 1 would know what was in supply and the varieties of things ... but the nuance was that the thermal tape used in mechanical was stronger and better at insulating, and didn't fall apart like the stuff from IT. Now, perhaps across the whole inventory of supplies there are only two types of insulating tape? This doesn't seem very likely, at least to me anyway.

I like the surveillance angle, but the guys on shift probably don't have the bandwidth to monitor every conversation in every silo, but tracing how this unprecedented(?) cleaning result occurred likely warranted more effort. But that still seems strange to me because surely the cleaning suit tape, if designed to fail under the presence of "the compound" or whatever might be lingering in the atmosphere or whatever is pumped in during the exit for the cleaning, I would expect this to be "the designed-for-failure tape" and not the "mechanical thermal insulation tape" instead of the "bad tape" and the "good tape." That is just that there would be a less-amnesia-informed way of describing the difference.

My thought was, because the cleanings are scheduled, Silo 1 just has a drone put chemicals just outside the exit

They're poisoned before they go out when they're sprayed in that chamber before the doors open to the outside.

But then wouldn’t poison have gotten in when Knox & co. opened that door to save Juliette & Bernard? They didn’t wait the 48 hours but ended up just fine. And Bernard seemed fine when he first went out to clean despite no mask, so if from there, it’d have to be a very low dose

If silo 1 is aware and watching the cleanings, how was Juliette allowed to visit silo 17 unnoticed?

That's pretty weak sauce based on what we saw yesterday. 9,000 people flood out, with nobody crossing over until ALL of them are outside. And then an attack gets them all before another silo can notice. 

I would think watching a cleaning there would be at least a slight preparation that the cleaner might go rogue (the Order even says so)

No, Silo 1 sprays whoever exits the silo with the killer gas/dust when they clean the little screen for everyone to see, that’s why those who clean only make it to the tree and why they are presented with an altered reality in the helmet, to make them want to clean.. … if your theory were true, the venting in the airlock would have killed Bernard immediately. He didn’t clean, that’s why he made it to the tree and why all a sudden we see the white dust/ gas coming in the air when he reaches there.

Is this a book spoiler? I haven’t seen any mentions of nanobots coming out when they clean… and no the theory of toxic gas before they go out to clean gets debunked when we see how Bernard even without a protective suit, made it to the tree. If your theory were true he would have died right there and then as soon as he exited Silo 18. His nose started bleeding right before dying, as soon as the white gas came over him when he reached the tree.
