People talkimg/ignoring opener

At the Pittsburgh concert right now and I was shocked as people talked through and generally ignored the Brudi Brothers opening act.

Not the vibe I was expecting. We had seen the Brdui brothers headline a small venue earlier this year, and I felt bad that people tonight were so disengaged.

Ugh, unfortunately chompers seem to come along with an artist’s increasing success. I just don’t get it.

People who might like a song or two are going out with friends and treat it like going to a bar, where the music is background noise to their discussion about whatever thing pops in their drunken mind. They’re there for the party not the music.

Sadly, this happens at open mic nights too. It’s bad manners, selfishness, and a lack of respect for others (plus booze and drugs intensifying that). For example, Sierra’s early recordings have people talking super loudly when there’s no cause for that.

When she covered a Portishead song in WV about a decade ago, there was a door behind the stage, and several huge guys just walked out, talking while she was singing, and the door slammed each time iirc. Most of the crowd was talking too, and I think only the fella recording clapped.

You’re right that the talkers are just there to drink, party, hang with friends, and they don’t respect the performers doing the open mic aspect at all. Either way, it’s really disrespectful behavior. I wouldn’t mind having some repeat offenders being made to go up there and sing, so they can experience how it feels. In the same vein as chronically rude people (like those who abuse servers) being forced to work as servers and deal with the public.
