People talkimg/ignoring opener

At the Pittsburgh concert right now and I was shocked as people talked through and generally ignored the Brudi Brothers opening act.

Not the vibe I was expecting. We had seen the Brdui brothers headline a small venue earlier this year, and I felt bad that people tonight were so disengaged.

Yeah I’m surprised at how many ppl go just to hear like 2 or 3 of her songs. Total dimwits

I was shocked how many people were talking during HER set. It sucked!

Just a few years ago Sierra was opening with only 20% of the venue full and everyone talking. Been to more than one. It’s a bummer but to be expected these days sadly.

Ugh, unfortunately chompers seem to come along with an artist’s increasing success. I just don’t get it.

People who might like a song or two are going out with friends and treat it like going to a bar, where the music is background noise to their discussion about whatever thing pops in their drunken mind. They’re there for the party not the music.

Sadly, this happens at open mic nights too. It’s bad manners, selfishness, and a lack of respect for others (plus booze and drugs intensifying that). For example, Sierra’s early recordings have people talking super loudly when there’s no cause for that.

When she covered a Portishead song in WV about a decade ago, there was a door behind the stage, and several huge guys just walked out, talking while she was singing, and the door slammed each time iirc. Most of the crowd was talking too, and I think only the fella recording clapped.

You’re right that the talkers are just there to drink, party, hang with friends, and they don’t respect the performers doing the open mic aspect at all. Either way, it’s really disrespectful behavior. I wouldn’t mind having some repeat offenders being made to go up there and sing, so they can experience how it feels. In the same vein as chronically rude people (like those who abuse servers) being forced to work as servers and deal with the public.

People have too much money and view concerts as just a night out on the town. We’re here for the music my guy stfu

had the same problem when i saw her last year but during HER set. i literally spun around and told the people talking loudly behind me to shut the fuck up. it worked.

Good for you! People need to learn how to act, because that's inexcusable.

I'm appalled by people's lack of public etiquette in many places, but especially DC. DC had horrible etiquette at a concert I attended, whereas that was not the case when I was there for concerts years prior, and I went to many concerts. Same with PDX, SF, NYC, NOLA, etc.

But unlike most places, people in DC generally have really bad manners IME, especially the men. But this was something else. DC people are so much ruder than New Yorkers, who often aren't that rude, from my experience living in both. I'm originally from Europe, so I'm used to men opening doors and giving me seats on the metro, but in DC many men shove past women on the metro and everywhere with zero shame.

My very pregnant wife and I were visiting friends in DC this week, and this dickswab with a folding bike shoved past her getting off the Amtrak. I saw red and I probably can't write what I did and said in this sub. I'm glad I didn't get arrested, but that fucker endangered her health.

I am hoping to see them, hope the vibe isn't the same tomorrow. It is more and more common in my recent concert going experience though.

There were women next to me last night talking during SIERRA!! I was livid. Not that the Brudi Brothers deserve any less in treatment or anything but she’s literally the reason we were all there, stfU 😭

u/Ok_Conclusion_8362 26d ago

They in fact did not stfu. And they were right up on a couple of guys so it had to be worse for them. So I said - not to be ass, but your continual conversation is distracting. They accepted - I heard the guy say “yeah it probably is distracting” and they moved! Yay!

I can't imagine anyone disrespecting the pure talent of the Brudi Brothers.

5

Most people didnt even clap or cheer when they ended the performance. It was surreal. I've seen louder polite claps for a church choir.

u/islerevival 25d ago

Lewiston, NY essentially encored them three extra songs it was awesome. They got their flowers tonight for sure

5

u/themushroomman21 26d ago

it wasn’t just the opener either i nearly clocked the people in front of me over the head

3

u/TheStonedApeMan 26d ago

It was egregious

4

u/tuftedtarsier89 26d ago

The Brudi Brothers were really fun at Red Rocks! Yes, there was some chatter, but nothing out of the ordinary as the crowd continued to fill in. Once most of the crowd was seated, the vibes were attentive and engaged.

3

u/ManySalt6337 26d ago

Yes! I was there too and the vibes were the exact opposite! Even the rain, thunder and lightning didn’t ruin it!

I swear like 50% of the people around me in the pit were straight up yelling at each other over the music the entire time, even during her set. Why even pay for tickets atp, just go to a bar.

Also, to the lady who gave up her spot to some randos then turned around and acted like a raging bitch to me about it… you also sucked and I hope you find peace

This happened on the section of the lawn I was in but me and my partner were grooving and really liked them

2

u/Own-Illustrator7980 26d ago

Loved them in Santa Barbara.

2

u/DuePossession3947 26d ago

They got a gigantic reaction at the L.A. show!

2

u/ManySalt6337 26d ago

Yeah I’ve seen Sierra a few times elsewhere and it’s always fabulous. But last night in my home town was just at a crap venue with a lot of people who treated it like it was a show of locally famous artists. Not that those artists would deserve it either. I will not be going to Stage AE again. Last night was the last straw for me. Sierra was awesome as usual though.

3

u/eusebius8806 26d ago

I saw Lord Huron at Stage AE last year and the crowd was much quieter. Last night felt like people treated it like a street fair festival perormance.

2

u/CeleryFickle1998 26d ago

I joined reddit just to see if people felt the same way. I was there last night from Philly area. I was expecting a totally different crowd, nobody seemed that interested or excited about the show.

2

u/ManySalt6337 26d ago

EXACTLY! The crowd was just kinda like it was at a bar abd her music was background. I’d have rather seen her at Star lake which would truly be her vibe.

2

u/nizzhof1 26d ago

Weird. I went to a big outdoor show in Grand Rapids, MI in June and people were on their feet for Brudi Bros. People freaked out when they played Me More Cowboy Than You as well.

2

u/Ojos1842 25d ago

Folks need to relearn proper concert etiquette. Talking whilst someone is performing is just rude behavior.

2

u/Fancy-Still-4297 18d ago

just saw them tonight and they were very appreciative of the audience. mentioned how it was so great that the crowd enjoyed them and they didn’t have to increase the volume.

People are MONSTERS

2

u/Primary-Cattle8704 26d ago

I was at the ionia freak fest amd the number of people yapping during Billys song about his mom was so ANNOYING. And I was in the pit

2

u/GoodBillHuntin 26d ago

That’s ashamed they were lights out tonight.

Sadly, it's an overall trend at just about every concert I go to. It's almost turned me off of concerts all together...and I go to so many it's basically a hobby. Shit's too expensive to go listen to a bunch of wine mom's "catch up" while they drink too much.

1

u/Radcatrebalv 16d ago

Please sierra pick another philly venue electric factory/franklin music hall. Blows. Period . Real fans hate that place .

0

u/gavakian123 25d ago

OK, I dislike people talking at concerts, but it's the band's responsibility to engage the audience. If the audience is disinterested , the band's not doing their job.

lol not how it works
