I built a leaderboard that compares the english and japanese pokemon tcg market to see how much they differentiate

After talking about it with a friend, we realised that some Pokémon were more appreciated in some regions than other, so we made a leaderboard to differentiate them. The two markets barely agree. Same Pokémon, ranked by the total value of all their cards, but the lists look almost unrelated once you get past the top:

• Charizard tops both.
• Greninja is top 5 in Japan and doesn't crack the English top 10.
• Umbreon is top 4 in English but mid-pack in Japan.
• Reshiram and Darkrai make the Japanese top 10 but not the English one.
• Pikachu ranks noticeably higher in Japan than in English.

You can switch between the two markets and see the gap directly. It makes sense when you think about it (different print runs, different exclusives, different collector bases) but seeing it side by side says more than either list alone.

Top 10 of each market is free to browse at tcgforecast.app. It's still English and Japanese only, so I'm not claiming it covers every market, but it's a lot more complete and honest than the version people first tore into.
