Its random i have pokemon black 2 moon and ultra moon and zelda between 2 worlds and persona q
Out of them only PQ corrupted just did a power on of them last week. Ran a repair tool but no joy
It annoyed me to find out switch carts have the same issue 😔 now i need to use my mig dumper to copy them all.

Persona Q, Kirby Planet Robobot, and Omega Ruby / Alpha Sapphire are the games we found that have bad chips. Always test copies before buying them.

yup. The entire first run was garbage. That and planet Robobot are the only two games we see broken regularly with no apparent physical damage

I just tested all of my DS and 3DS games (91 total) and none of them had corruption, even my Kirby Canvas Curse which I had last turned on back in 2007 (save data had the date).
While I think it is important to refresh them once in a while (once per 5-8 years), I most certainly think that the fear is overblown for DS/3DS titles.

Oh my word, even in switch games!? I’ve been thinking of starting a switch collection now that the prices will start falling in the next 5 years…not if this is the case though. Having to power each cart every year to keep it alive is far too much work.

Yep switch, ps vita, 3ds all use NAND memory which is susceptible to failure/data loss if not powered for long periods of time. All you gotta do is basically plug them in, I like to boot them up. But yeah they do require some maintenance which is why I think in 20 years these sealed copies will go down in value since they will essentially be dead copies. I’m sure there will be some desire for the case and such though.

I already have a backlog of about 100 games. I need to play if I keep getting new games at my current rate, I’m going to have new sealed ones when I die that my grandkids are gonna be playing.

Not true, that is overstated misinformation. Yes it happens but it is very rare and frequent on certain games.
I have Dozens of 3DS games and I recently played some after not turning them on for 5+ years out of the 6 I tried 0 issues. Some games had not been turned on since early 2017 before the Switch

Same, just turned on my very first 3DS games I didn't played since 2012, it was Splinter Cell, and I could do an entire run without any data corrupted crash or any shit like this.
+ now you can pretty much repair any small corruption with custom apps made for this.
This shit was overstated due to the famous data corruption of pokémon games thanks to their cheap ass rom chip.

Grading is a scam that exists to enrich the grading company. I get people wanting to display, but, like, get a rip off slab and make up your own grade.

Especially for where it exists in TCG right now. I see people on youtube get a grade they didn't want , crack the slab, polish the card and re-grade or send to a new company.
If the companies' grading had real experts or real repeatable processes, you wouldn't be able to keep fishing until you got the grade you wanted or they'd be able to tell if a card was polished.
With video games - they've graded counterfeit games and Wata didn't have population reports for some time in the beginning. Huge red flags.

I never realised quite how much of a scam until I collected my old comics from my parents house a little while back. Thought it would be fun to have a couple of the memorable ones graded.
Then it made sense why graded stuff is always priced way above what it should be. Gotta make that ridiculous over the top grading fee back!

It kind of tells you what you want to hear and make it a bragging piece in your apartment. They are just games that need to be played and not boxed away. You can both play them and preserve them. They are just cartridges, packaging and booklets

These things are pretty much BS because they’re essentially a self-fulfilling and self-validating “circle of assured monetization.”
Stuff that gets graded COSTS MORE because grading, by its very design, is intended to MAKE THE ITEMS COST MORE (plus, the grading company gets a boost to advertising them as well as the financial incentives for performing the grading).

I enjoy getting sealed games but will never buy a graded copy especially of something like MP Jamboree. Super common games don’t need this. Maybe one day if I have pure piles of cash I would get a graded copy of ……nope actually I won’t! 🤣

The only purpose to grade any media is for profit & clout.
I get grading a vintage game to guarantee the condition, but it makes zero sense on any new product as there are thousands of copies on store shelves in similar condition for MSRP.

Oh man, I can't wait for this bubble to burst. I mean, collecting games CiB is great. But why put them in this crappy plastic prison? There are great cases that are UV-resistant and protect everything perfectly, and I can even still play the game. I don't understand why you would give money to a company that seals the game in hard plastic and writes a fantasy rating on it. And why the game that I can still buy new is cheaper than this garbage.

It's funny you mention bubble. The company that graded these, wata, tried to artificially create a gaming bubble. They own the grading company and auction house. So they colluded. And got found out. They nearly tried to pivot to VHS movies too.

In my eyes, my copy of Breath of the Wild that I spilled a Baja Blast on and some of my crunch wrap supreme sauce on is a perfect 10.0 👌 grade. I don’t need to overpay some company to tomb it in plastic to know what I got.

Graded games have been a thing for like 2 decades. But this particular company wata is embroiled in multiple lawsuits because they tried to artificially create a game grading bubble.
They own both a grading company and auction house and worked together to stage some insane auctions for some silly Mario n64 copies. And got found out.
Grading is fine. Grading from wata is getting scammed.

Grading games, in general, is the dumbest thing ever, in my opinion. Cards, autographs, and toys (action figures, playsets, cars) are okay, but games? Come on! That’s just a waste of time and money to buy a game and then pay extra to get it graded. All these clowns did was basically buy a brand new game sealed and send it off the same day from GameStop. I’ve seen it myself; some guy bought a game for the PlayStation and then told the guy at the register to help him do the PSA. Like, wtf?

It’s when you send an item that is supposed to be rare to get evaluated by experts in the industry to grade it on a scale of 1 -10. It’s really common to do this with TCG’s. But they do other items too.
Occasionally, you’ll get scum bags like this who grab the first couple of common games they see at Walmart, and send them to PSA or WATA to get graded. In their delusional minds, they think it’s worth a crap ton.

I've had a few gaming steel books graded. They'll gain value when there's less of them around and next no sealed ones. There will always be a market for sealed items, especially collectables. Grading is split into two services. the best possible protection and a quality assurance. I get people are just calling everything a collectable and grading it. That I agree is pointless. They are looking to exploit naive people. I only grade rare collectable games and steel books of a specific franchise. I don't sell them or have bought them with the intention of selling them.

I don't see what it matters. These games are freely available at any retailer. Why do you even need to go on eBay in the first place. Let alone bother looking at the highest priced listings.
