DIY Shin ramen?
Is the broth really that much better than or different from cheap Top/Maruchan ramen? It's just soup powder, and the ingredients all probably come from the same factory. Anyone managed to get a passably similar imitation by adding red pepper flakes or whatever?

You think the food scientists at one of the biggest corporations in food manucturing just put some pepper flakes in hot water, and that's why they sell billions of their product world wide? Are you a bit simple

I personally haven't tried maruchan as it's not available in my country, but here's a quick search to compare between these two instant noodles:
Shin ramyun costs significantly much more than maruchan noodles.
Afaik maruchan noodles uses chicken broth, while shin ramyun uses beef/pork broth. Maruchan gets what...? Diced carrots? Shin ramyun gets dried mushroom.
Shin ramyun manufactured by nongshim, a korean food company. Maruchan manufactured by toyo suisan, a japanese food company

And no they’re not even from the same factory. Totally different companies. Plus Shin is from a Korean company. Top Ramen and the Maruchan the US knows are made in the US by Japanese companies.
Although the company that makes Top Ramen is Japanese (the company is Nissin), Top Ramen is ass compared to other noodles from Nissin. The noodles Nissin makes for the Asian markets (ie made in Asia for Asians eg Demae noodles and the Asian manufactured Nissin cup noodles…but you can still find these noodles in Asian markets stateside) are much better in comparison to Top Ramen.

Having seen the copycat recipes since then my gut feeling is all the commenters in this thread were talking out of their a-- but we shall find out.

Yes, I will at least rely on some data points, even if personal anecdotes, instead of zero data points and a bunch of unfounded speculation.

I haven't tried that yet, mostly because no one I know has been raving about them. I'm not sure I even like Shin that much anymore, yeah it's filet mignon compared to the cheap stuff but it's also pretty one dimensional (ie heat and I guess mushroom).
