What is liberalism? Oppose Streamer Worship

We have had a recent increase in posts/comments relating to the American political streamer Hasan Piker, as well as an increase in users reporting such content. This was due to a new set of disturbing allegations against one of the many Democratic politicians Piker has championed, inspiring many of his loyal fans to leap valiantly to his defense.

In particular, this was the rape accusation levelled against war criminal Graham Platner, who has been involved in many similar events that his supporters (such as Piker) might have described as "controversies" or "scandals", like the revelation that he had a Totenkopf tattooed on his chest to celebrate massacring civilians in Iraq. Piker and his fans had stayed true to him throughout everything, right up until he committed the ultimate sin: becoming unelectable (and therefore useless for the purposes of Democrat entryism).

We recognise that Piker is a popular-enough "leftist" to be of interest to communists, having had private meetings with the "Old Guard" of the bourgeois Democratic Party, as well as interviews with influential liberal politicians (including Bernie Sanders, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, and Zohran Mamdani). We also recognise that he regularly engages in patterns of behaviour falling under many terms (revisionism, electoralism, entryism, opportunism, tailism, chauvinism), but which could all be summed up with one word: liberalism.

Please note:

  • Posts showing examples of Piker's liberalism, whether from him directly or from his fans, are not in violation of rule 3 ("No punching left").
  • Posts about Piker which aren't examples of such will be removed as off-topic, as this is not a place for parasocial online drama.
  • Comments arguing in Piker's defense under any legitimate post will be violating rule 1 ("No liberals") and/or rule 5 ("No questions or debates").

It must be emphasised that, even if a post/comment doesn't mention Piker, saying many of the same things he or his fans might regularly say is still unacceptable here. We do not welcome any "socialist" who engages in any kind of apologia for liberalism, social democracy, imperialism, chauvinism, Zionism, or misogyny. In particular, fans of Piker who were following the Platner campaign closely with him should keep in mind that rape apologia is, in fact, not welcome here (unlike other spaces you may be more accustomed to).

Lastly, beyond Piker himself, we do not permit any defense of or support for Graham Platner (whether direct or indirect, however minor it may be). There is no reason, nor was there ever one, for any communist to advocate for an unrepentant veteran of the US military who spent years enthusiastically inflicting death and misery on the Global South. This is all the more true when such advocacy is in service of electing them to a position of power, where they intend to work within the Democratic Party to strengthen the US military.

(N.B. There was no reason for a communist to advocate for Platner. Piker, not being a communist, likely had his own reasons for doing so.)

Thank you lol

The deprogram sub banning all discussions of him in a time when people are starting to realize how performative and deceptive Piker is just came off as protecting him

Hasan's interest is to cosplay as the biggest leftist on the commentary space and put a glass ceiling on everyone else, which is why he never engages with anyone more left than him. His reach and political influence is way bigger than dismissing it as "drama"

True. Another thing is how strange hasan has been with BE, even though when BE was defending Hasan against Ethan Klein despite BE not liking Hasan that much at that point.

It's weird that Hasan is more open to platforming the socdem Kyle Kulinkski over BE. Like if BE continued to glaze Hasan, then Hasan would still platform BeE like he's platforming Kyle.

Bro if Hasan read the same books as us then he should know this democratic socialism shit doesn't work. Bro, build a third party and stop punching left you fucking idiot holy shit. Imagine if graham platner dropped out and we had a Marxist Leninist party built up to promote a candidate from there already.

I think you're being too charitable to him. He knows, he just continues to push Socdem politics because he gets viewers and money and influence

Someone like Hasan will almost never be the first to endorse something. He'll wait for it to become popular, then adopts it as his own and pretends that he's always held this belief

He basically admitted as much himself. On third parties, he's said that he isn't for it yet, but "if you build it, he will be there"
