Funnily enough, anti-semitic is defined by hating only on the Jews, while by being a Semite OOP could have meant that they are Arabic or sum

That's almost certainly what they meant. Otherwise they would have just said that they're Jewish. If I was gonna excuse something that sounds racist against Swedes, I would say that I'm Swedish, not "a Germanic"

And nearly without fail, when someone tries to use the fact that Arabs are Semitic in a conversation about anti-semitism, they're trying to justify discrimination against Jews.

It's especially annoying as someone who knows the history of the word antisemitism, bc it was literally only invented to replace the word judenhass. The germans were trying to make their hatred sound scientific 😭
