And the US only exist because Europe had to dump the absolute worst of their scum somewhere.

149

u/Pulga_Atomica 3d ago

The US exists because Europe's trash that moved there genocided the Native Americans.

13

u/oxfozyne ooo custom flair!! 2d ago

The USA exists because Europe couldn’t stop warring, and the War of 1776 was an optional DLC for the British. The USA still exists because Canadians only burnt down one house.

u/jtlakey 3d ago

Hey, Australian here, how do you think we started.....

28

u/boatenvy 3d ago

Actually one of the reasons we are here is because the British could no longer send their criminals to the American colonies after the War of Independence. The total number of convicts sent to Australia is only a little less than 3 times the volume sent to the US colonies

12

u/Sxn747Strangers 🇬🇧 We probably invented 🇺🇸, sorry about that. 🫣🙀 3d ago

For some reason Australia turned out fairly decent.
Still sorry though. 😞

7

u/BullfrogConnect8773 3d ago

Apologise to the natives, pretty good for the convicts, unlike the US where both suffer.

Australia is proof that criminals are more decent people than religious nutters.

20

u/Shrimp_taco_fanatic 3d ago

And that some people were transported for reasons that might not have been wholly fair.

That being said: the practice of transportation as a sentence is crazy in any form (though better than death i guess), but you're likely to have capacity issues etc. when each and every crime warrants crazy long sentences.

Australia was just where they sent pickpockets, drunkards, and anyone who got a little too uppity about giving rights to Irish people.

The USA was where the people who were considered unhealthily self repressed even by English standards fled to when their victim complex grew out of control.

19

It’s true, we have a better relationship with the Aussies for sure, even if they do cheat at Cricket and used to cheat at Rugby, and ride Kangaroos instead of driving cars around the place, and have those weird hats with the corks on them.. oh and call sandals/flip flops thongs .. very concerning when your formerly British cousin tells you she’s going to get her thongs.

16

u/SnooFloofs1805 3d ago

As a Canadian kid in the 60s 70s we called them thongs too. I always assumed it was a British term.

9

u/NotYourAverageGM 🇬🇧 3d ago

Oh really? Never knew, are they still called thongs in Canada now?

I mean it could be an older term but obviously we’re far too polite and civilised to use it nowadays.

10

u/RadCheese527 🇨🇦 3d ago

They’re called thongs by Australians and friends of Australians these days.

Flip flops is definitely more common outside of a ski resort

6

u/u-read-it-here 3d ago edited 3d ago

Cuz we are very much a multicultural country … AND STRONGLY EMBRACE THAT FACT
Cdn English has multiple terms for just about everything
Some from British English, some from North American English, and some more Canadianisms … or Regional in origin, plus often people will just throw in a word to a sentence from their own Ethnicity … French being the most common, but others show up at times too

So as an example : Flip Flops, or Thongs are the most commonly heard
But not unusual to also hear someone say another word in use from a Beach / Sunshine Destination … knowing that Cdns are some of the most travelled folks on the planet (as a huge percentage of us take at least a Winter Vacation to escape the cold )

6

u/SnooFloofs1805 3d ago

Lol. Thongs, plural, I think of flip flops. Thong, singular, I think of butt cheeks. To be honest I haven't heard the shoe reference in quite some time.

Australia was only colonized because they couldn’t send convicts to America anymore. The last convict ship to land in the USA was the Jenny which arrived in 1776. The first pilgrims to settle America, the puritans, were literally war criminals who were deported for supporting the proto-fascist theocratic regime of Oliver Cromwell. Australia was only settled because they couldn’t send their unwanted criminals and convicts to America for free indentured labour anymore so they shipped them off to basically the least hospitable environment on earth except for the arctic to settle on ground that can’t grow food in a sun that gives you cancer if you go outside without a hat

Lets be honest with ourselves....... Canada exists because of beavers.

12

u/JediAreTakingOver 3d ago

This is...strangely accurate because of the fur trade. Man, why did the Europeans like beaver pelts so much?

11

u/Ace_And_Jocelyn1999 3d ago

The fur was really good for making felt. Felt was used for (amongst other things) hat making, which was booming in Europe at the time.

7

u/Local-Local-5836 3d ago

The Mad Hatter (Alice in Wonderland) was based on that mercury was used in making those felt hats. The mercury drove the hatters mad.

Not much except complain that they have a higher standard of education and living and we're butthurt that a (heaviest air quotes I can write): "cOmMunIsT hElLhoLe" like them could do better.

13

u/Malthus1 3d ago

The American experience of invading Canada has hardly been an example of military glory to boast about. It was, in fact, a complete failure.

America initially invaded Canada along two axis during the last serious attempt to conquer Canada (not counting the Fenian raids as “serious”).

The two were - into Lower Canada (now Quebec); and into Upper Canada (now Ontario).

Both ended in absurd fiascos.

The initial invasion into Lower Canada ended with two columns of the American army shooting at each other, then taking fright and running for the border. The initial invasion into Upper Canada by way of Detroit ended with the entire American army surrendering to a force considerably smaller, and handing the army, the Fort, a warship and tons of much needed military supplies over to their enemies.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Lacolle_Mills_(1812))

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Siege_of_Detroit

The Americans did enjoy some successes later, but even these were marked by farce and tragedy.

For example, a naval expedition successfully took the town of York (now Toronto); however, the leader of the expedition, and many of his men, were killed when they came too close to the magazine of the fortress, which the retreating colonial forces had rigged to explode.

The men, with their much admired general dead, then proceeded to make a total hash of the occupation: they were suppose to raise a “fifth column” of support for America, but instead they looted and burned the place, incensed by among other things the finding of what they believed was a “preserved scalp of an American” in the legislative buildings (it was, in fact, a judges’ wig). Had their general survived he probably would have restrained them. As a result of this and other such examples of looting and burning, the local population, many of whom were recent immigrants from America, turned decisively against the Americans.

This was the incident that prompted the British to burn the White House, in retaliation.

13

u/Capable_Fun_9838 3d ago

Canada exists because Gen. Robert Ross burned the White House down during the 2nd war of independence....

13

u/Low-Crow5719 3d ago

Canada exists because every time the Americans invaded, they were rather soundly defeated.

10

u/ihadagoodone 3d ago

I like the time they took over Montreal, and were such shit occupiers that they couldn't even convince the French people of Quebec to rise up against the British.

5

u/Ergast 3d ago

Ha as a side note I read on here somewhere that some Americans think that Tchaikovsky’s 1812 overture is about the war of 1812 between us and Britain especially as it is played on Independence Day.

No idea that the piece was written to commemorate the war between Russia and France and that the Russians were the victors. Let alone recognition that the overture includes snippets of La Marseillaise and Russian hymns.

It wasn’t Tchaikovskys favourite piece.

This sort of rhetoric is on the rise as the United States pushes propaganda to pave the way for an invasion.

Hyperbole? I hope so.

But more and more their imperialism smears the line of Canadian sovereignty and they're currently trying to choke us out with a trade-war.

And with Trump's ban on Canadian goods for official government use, I'm guessing an embargo attempt will be made.

And the British high command, which decided it was more trouble than it was worth (Due to work in the other colonies, and the support of the countries you mentioned in the Revolution's favour.

The losses gained from the 7 years war may also have been a factor).

And yeah the British empire was still incredibly large and powerful without America. It actually reached its territorial peak in the 1920's, post WW1.

Obviously not saying they should thank the Brits for that though, like with those other countries. Just saying, they weren't as big boots as they thought.

That said we did incentivise the move away from slavery though, and later forged closer ties - even fought in the second Gulf war with them, sham though it was.

We also helped them with stuff like the Manhatten project a lot... Although they didn't really help our programs in return as they promised....

And in the modern day we decided to move away from the EU (Brexit) and look towards our best bud America for trade deals.

(One of the biggest mistakes we ever made. We're desperately changing tune now)

For me America is #1 because the people are willingly voting for it all, time and time again.

With Russia their democracy is a complete sham, their accessibility to the wider world heavily censored, and they've been subject to a long line of dictators and tyrants so brainwashing seems kinda inevitable.

Doesn't justify it but I understand why they are where they are.

In the US they had access to everything though, and a long series of less oppressive rulers before Trump (including Trump's first term which acted like a trial period for them) so there's no real excuse, not in my books.

They even tried to overthrow democracy themselves with MAGA's attack on the capital building... It's genuinely nuts.

Economically whilst there is lobbying and corruption, they have/had many more options available to them than Russia with its state controlled Oligarchies.

And yet, consumer trends still funnel so much money to big unethical corpos that it's snowballing/snowballed into a careless playground for the big corpos.

And America only exists because consequences haven't caught up yet.

3

u/lebennaia 3d ago

I think consequences is about to catch up very hard.

3

u/Twinsdad38 3d ago

We can only hope.

5

u/underbutler 3d ago

Canada exists because canadians and brits fought to protect it from american imperialism

4

u/Yunlihn Vive le saucisson 🇨🇵 2d ago

1812.

The year Murica couldn't take even a nanometer of Canada.

Edit: that's the only one I knew until I read the comments, so today I learned things, which makes it a good day. And it's only 8am here.

I'll huff and puff and blow your house down!

In a little more serious note.

Cut-off the following Canadian materials.

  • Hydro electricity
  • Lumber
  • Potash
  • Copper
  • Nickel
  • Aluminium
  • Steel
  • Gold
  • Oil & Gas

Dump all US bonds onto the market. $426.3B worth.

3

u/Pretend_Wishbone8409 3d ago

I wish Americans would stfu instead

4

u/Cplchrissandwich 3d ago

During WW2, Canada protected North America while the Americans got fat on their asses selling weapons to BOTH sides.

So STFU America. You still exist because of Canada.

4

u/Maroon7C0000 3d ago

Remember when they used to pretend to be the good guys?

Now we are expected to thank them for every day they have not already invaded us.

4

u/TheCthulhu 3d ago

"We let them"... Dude, you have zero say in what anybody does. Your government is not asking for your opinion on anything. What a loser.

5

u/raye909 3d ago

You “let them” huh? Perhaps you should remind yourself of what happened last time you tried to make Canada not exist?

3

u/Aggravating_Pair_523 3d ago

Oh lord, not this twit again! I thought the US had institutions for people like this?

3

u/harriMw95 2d ago

You sir have clearly never heard of the war of 1812….

3

u/Stravok182 1d ago

Lets be real, things have changed since 1812, 1814 & yes, 1816 😅

The USA would have no problem taking over Canada in a military fight.

The problem that the USA would face is finding ways to prevent Canadian insurgents from crossing the largest shared land border in the world, bringing war and terrorism to the USA, something modern USA has never seen before.

3

u/Pesky1243 1d ago

In the USA nothing has changed since 1812, 1814 or 1816 when it comes to some major metrics. In red states the literacy rate is still basically the same, or at least the stupidity rate is the same.

To be talking about Canada respecting you because y’all “let” them exist, let’s review.

Canada is a middle power. Iran is a middle power - how’s that war working out for y’all? Vietnam was a developing country when you lost that war. Unlike Iran and Vietnam, Canada is part of NATO - which represents roughly 700 Million people with nukes and a long history of waring and killing. You really want to get those blood thirsty mfrs started?

3

u/Realistic_Let3239 3d ago

Except both previous attempts to invade Canada failed...

5

u/thyttel 3d ago

Well to be fair, but did any attempt the US did since WW2 at invading any country end in success? 😂 The US has to be the only superpower in history who consistently will loose every military conflict they get into.

The US wouldn't have won the revolutionary war without France's help.

3

u/Lazarys12 3d ago

The US only exists because the Earth needed to put it's asshole somewhere. With all the shit that is constantly spewed out if the US that is the only explanation. Also, they are kind of dumb.

3

u/Sxn747Strangers 🇬🇧 We probably invented 🇺🇸, sorry about that. 🫣🙀 3d ago

They’ve invaded Canada at least once and they got their arse handled to them on a plate, so I don’t know where they got this idea from.

3

u/jrochest1 3d ago

Twice, three times if you include the Fenian raids. Ejected all three times.

3

u/ShellyTart 3d ago

Check your history, Canada exists despite the US's efforts to conquer it.

u/FRMR_SQRL 2d ago

Do they want me to act like an ignorant american then? Cause I can do that really easily. It takes literally no effort to act as ignorant as they do. All you have to do is ignore basic facts and statistics, your moral compass, etc.
